  Shamus, read my post above about natural gas and vehicles. Also, it will take far longer than 2 years to replace even half of all gasoline burning automobiles with NG powered ones. You just cannot convert a gasoline powered automobile to NG, the differences are too radical.

  Bottom line, it's weight, WEIGHT, WEIGHT that must be radically reduced in the short measure of time that we have.

  if i understood correctly, one of the ideas advanced as proof of jehovah's witnesses beliefs is that of the kings of the north and the south.

  i didn't understand much of it, to a large extent because i think it's nonsense, but something else i did find curious.. the king of the north was the soviet union, and the king of the south were the united states.

  i am not sure the soviet union is "north" of the united states in any sense (think of alaska), but, that aside, what kind of theological distress resulted when the king of the north crumbled to pieces?

  The sign that indicate we're living in the “last days” is composite. It's only been in the 20th century that there was two World Wars and a global terrorist threat. It's only been in the 20th century that we've had the technology to "ruin the earth."

  You're begging the question. You had pestilence, famine, destructive earthquakes, etc all within a generation's lifetime, killing a greater percentage of the world's population than that of the generation that was born since 1914... Oh wait a minute. I forgot that the light got brighter! There no longer is a time frame with which to measure a "generation".

  In any case, any major destruction in the future will come from Global Warming which is not predicted in the Bible any more than terrorism is. The technology that led to the release of Carbon Dioxide, which eventually led to Global Warming, began during the Industrial Revolution. That started in the late 18th century.

  Also, the technology to "ruin the earth", from your point of view, I presume, is your reference to nuclear weapons. They were not invented in 1914.

  I live in an apartment complex of over a hundred units dominated by Witnesses. About one out of six are disfellowshipped, the result of a 1% d'fing rate per year and very long term residency in these apartments that allow them to accumulate. Half of them are inactive.

  And I thought I was the only Apostate here! It's nice to know I've got lots of company, even though those inactive JWs may not realize it themselves.

  Berlyne (1972) defined confabulation as "...a falsification of memory occurring in clear consciousness in association with an organically derived amnesia". He distinguished between:

  • "momentary" (or "provoked") confabulations—fleeting, and invariably provoked by questions probing the subject's memory, sometimes consisting of "real" memories displaced in their temporal context.

  Some military agents, such as BZ, and deliriant drugs such as those found in datura, notably scopolamine and atropine, may also cause confabulation.

  Within personal relationships, confabulation may be difficult to detect. Regardless of its biological or psychological etiology, simple lies and purposeful deception are included in the confabulation differential, as well as deep rooted psychopathological disturbance and early-stage dementia. The historical background of the confabulating individual rarely provides supporting evidence for their "fables", however tangentially related. Fables may be embellished beyond any possible evidentiary support and will usually ultimately reveal the disorder if appropriate investigations are applied. Those with long term relationships are most likely to recognize the disorder most quickly. Confabulations usually involve harmless matters, unlike the paranoid and psychotic delusions expressed in defense of abnormal actions of serious criminal actions.

  Yes, Spade. Those demons really dropped down to earth like meteors.

  Bottom line, there has been no meaningful change in "degeneration", as you call it, when1914 is compared to previous history. This has all been argued in the very book you disdain. I've noticed that you have not brought up the HISTORICAL evidence that has been presented to counter the myth of 1914 being the nexus of something new.

  Whether it be wars, disease, famine, etc. those have been worse in the past as far as the percentage of the world's population dieing. Example: the Bubonic plague epidemics and Tamerlane's genocides throughout Asia in the 14th century. When you get the TRUE casualty figures for both verified and find out the population of the world back then; do a simple calculation of the percentage of the populaton that died in the 14th century from those two causes alone. It will make the 20th century seem tame.

  I bet you can't even start because you'll do some superficial research, particularly with the Bubonic/Pneumonic plague casualties. So let me give you a hint. The world's population dropped from 400 million, at the beginning of the Plague, to roughly 250 million by the end of the century. Don't forget tamerlane's contribution, which while being dwarfed by the Plague, is roughly equivalent to both WWI and WWII put together (PERCENTAGE WISE!).

  I'm not even taking into account the 19th century, which while not as bad as the 14th, was equivalent to the 20th century as far as percentage of the world's population dieing from a wide variety of diseases, famines and wars.
