Anybody know about statutory rape - especially Illinois?
by jws inthere's a 19-year old in the family (non-jw) who got his 16-year old girlfriend pregnant.
from what i can tell, that could be considered criminal sexual abuse in illinois with a potential sentence of up to a year in prison.. anybody know anything about this?
especially in illinois?.

My cousin is a parole officer who oversees men on parole for sex crimes (but not in Illinoise). He says that the court system looks carefully at the age spread and does not concern itself too much with a small age difference as the one you mentioned. You should still check with a lawyer.

Welcome to JWN Ian. Unfortunately you will find that the JW religion is as absolutely intolerant of other faiths and beliefs as you can get. This includes your liberal beliefs which they would find detestable. Get a copy of their book From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained, a story book for children and open it up to pages 208 and 209. In one picture that speaks a thousand words you will find what they think of everyone that is not a JW.

If A JW Doesn't Know You No Longer Attend Do You Tell Them?
by minimus inevery once in a while i see some jws that live far away and they may come by for business or just to say hello, at my work.
if they don't know that i've stopped going, i don't bring it up.. do you feel the need to tell jws you haven't seen in a long time that you no longer go to meetings or believe?.

I like living by the philosophy of "don't start no mess, won't be no mess"
I don't believe in starting but I sure do believe in returning favors. If others have "messed" you up like the JWs have done with me and others why play martyr?

I live in a large apartment complex full of JWs. One time I sent out a mass mailing, to each and every apartment, containing advertisement for Crisis Of Conscience and half a dozen other anti-witness books. At least the whole neighborhood knows.

As an active JW, did you find the Memorial to be special?
by Robert7 ineven as active jws, my wife and i always found the memorial to be anti-climatic, overhyped.
it was supposed to be the most important event of the year, but it just felt like another meeting.
i just never felt compelled to have to go.

I found it dull so I decided to attend one time with a member of the anointed that I knew and sat right next to him just to see some action.

10 years since I've been online - how the JW community has changed
by truthseeker init's been ten years since i first got connected to that net thing.. i remember (not fondly) the old days of aol dial-up, listening to the peculiar chirping noise that meant i was connected and then logging on to my favorite jw sites - at that time it was h20 and witnesses.net.. i was three years too late for h20 as it was just starting to go downhill in the quality of postings.. witnesses.net initially started out tame but suffered the same apostate malaise that all well-intentioned dub forums start out with - too many people asking too many questions.
it disappeared sometime in 2000 i believe.. back in '99 silentlambs wasn't around and the child abuse issue was not at the forefront of anyone's mind, only being discussed online.. wt subscriptions were still available, the public talk was an hour and book studies were held in private homes!
(ok, i know this only stopped as of last year).

I'm beginning to feel prehistoric though I'm not much older then you guys. I was df'd in late 1980 and soon discovered an apostate "telephone tree" which meant we basically call each other on the phone. I remember linking up with James Penton and arranging for him to be a guest on a local radio show called Religion on the Line. He wanted to recruit me as a spy visiting the Mexican congregations and finding out anything I could on the military bribing issue. I reluctantly declined because my spanish was very heavily accented and may have raised suspicions to paranoid witnesses. There was Richard Rawee from Oregon I believe and I even spoke to Ray Franz, before his book came out. Ray was very reticent to speak to anyone in those days.
In any case, I live amongst witnesses in a large apartment complex and just by looking at them I can tell that nothing really changes deep inside of them.

After reading a few apocalyptic science fiction books you'll get enough imagination to create some plausible scenarios for post armageddon society. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in that bunk anymore than you do, but if the worlds population were to drop to, let's say, one million people rather quickly they would have little problem with survival.
A population explosion of ants would take care of the bodies. Only dense urban areas would present a temporary problem that you could walk out of. You could basically let the bodies rot to the bone while the survivors concentrate themselves in one or few cities just like they did in The Stand by Stephen King. Never mind the mystical mumbo jumbo just put yourself in the picture as a survivor with a million others and figure it out.

UB, even if civilization collapses and billions die it won't turn out to be a fulfillment of Bible prophecy particularly the JW version. The 14th century saw the deaths of 1/4 of humanity from China to Europe in just one pandemic sweep. There were three more pandemic episodes that followed throughout the century. Tamerlane killed millions, the percentage equivalent of tens of millions that Hitler killed when you compensate for a population that was 1/10th the size. Apocalyptic doommongering used to be my favorite past time, I was a witness once after all, but now I'm more rational without a doctrinal agenda to follow. People make up these scriptures and biblical predictions simply because they want the world to end but there is nothing divine behind it.
Bottom line, even if 99% of the worlds population were to perish in disasters yet to come there will be neither rapture nor Jehovah's paradise. Just humanity and an exhausted earth.

Merge Brooklyn--conspiracy theory
by rebel8 inmerge brooklyn.
those were the verification words i had to type in just now when logging in.. that cannot be a coincidence.
of all the zillions of possible combinations of verification words, surely it couldn't have been a mere accident!.

Those verification words are generated by a thousand and one chimpanzees banging away on a typewriter.
