It is my belief that psychopaths predominate in virtually every hierarchical organization be it commercial, political or otherwise. Having known a couple close up nothing puzzles me about their behavior or that the WBTS.

Governing Body Psycopathic?
by Luo bou to inso many on this board are puzzled by the lack of ethics re the gb because they think they have moral values like themselves.
not all psychopaths end up in jail.... some become leaders of religious organizations.... they can be very charming and ruthless.

One of us should visit him at his deathbed and whisper something profound into his ears.

JW friend wants to tell me about Christ's return in 1914....Advice needed!
by whyizit inmy long time friend recently took the plunge (baptized) and is now trying to recruit me.
one of the first things she told me is how all the "other religions" should be carefully inspected, because they are all wrong, in a nut shell.
so, i asked the obvious: i'm not concerned with all the others, i'm here to talk about your's.

It's probably too late to tell her anything because of her recent baptism. She will interpret anything you have to say as a Satanic attack on her faith. In fact the WBTS stresses that these attacks happen right after baptism. However, if you want to give it a shot I would recommend giving her the book The Gentile Times Reconsidered by Carl O. Jonsson. This is absolutely the best book on the subject.
On the other hand you may want to consider not handing her the book but becoming familiar with its arguments and discussing it with her.

200,000 year old human hair found in dung
by Earnest inthe daily telegraph reported that strands of hair from a human who lived 200,000 years ago have been found preserved inside fossilised hyena dung from south africa.
this is noteworthy because up until now the oldest samples of human hair were from a 9,000 year old mummy found in northern chile.
how have these hairs been dated?

Thank you for posting an evolution related topic Earnest. If a had my life to live over again without the influence of the JWs I would have been a Paleoanthropologist.

Define Irony: Phoenix man killed in gun-safety demo
by Elsewhere indamn... this sucks.
even still, i have never pointed my gun at my head before... even when i was certain it was not loaded.. .

When my very drunk father first taught me how to load and unload a gun he would, after removing the cartridge from the chamber, point it at his head and dry fire it. My attention was, to say the least, rivetted to what he was doing.
As far as irony is concerned I would say very little. Only if he followed the rules of gun safety and a freakish accident occurred would it have been ironic. This man clearly violated the number one rule of firearms. Never point a firearm (empty or not) at anything you don't mind destroying.
Edited to add: No offence taken VIII, it seems we both posted simultanously without realizing what the other would say.

Where was the semi-apology for the whole 1975 debacle?
by cognac ini heard it was in some 1980 mag but i don't know where.
also, what did it say?
.

Pseudo apology would be a more appropriate phrase. Saying that they had a partial responsibility for that prophetic failure when in fact they were responsible for the whole thing is an act of false humility. False humility is part of the arsenal of arrogance.

July 2009 Awake (Other Interesting Quote)
by Interested Observer ini know this article was brought up with respect to the statement it contains regarding the fact that religion should not divide a family.
i finally got to read it and i found something more interesting a few paragraphs earlier.
the article states:.

I doubt it is a cryptic message though it may have happened before. It's pure demonic hypocrisy. By mirroring the very words of its critics the WBTS hopes to innoculate its membership from our criticism.

I read Dr. Michael Persingers book The Neuropsychological Basesof God Beliefs which only reinforced my beliefs that "spirituality" is, like all things human, a physical aspect of the brain. Like Kudra said, it is not just "God(s)" that we're dealing with in these elicited experiences but Aliens and practically anything that you may have been meditating on throughout your life.
