i know many people simply think that believing in a "god" is simply ridiculous.
i don't.
i can't necessarily "prove" that god cares, or that god exists but i'll tell you what---when something awful happens i do pray to god and hope for the best..
The word "God" should be restricted to that of a personal sentient being to avoid any confusion with any other mystical ideas.
Now if by God you mean a personal one my answer is NO. I am an atheist intellectually but a pantheist at heart. I worship the Universe.

well - i today i had the opportunity to tell my wife i no longer believe in the things that i have spent my life immersed in and that i didn't want my life run by 9 geriatrics in brooklyn.. her reaction was understandable her first questions was "what have you been reading"?.
i didn't mention this site but told her i was shocked by something i heard regarding the wts's ngo status with the un, dissapointed by the new light on the generation and disturbed by the flip flopping on blood fractions.
i explained how these things were at best hypocritical and at worst have meant some people have lost their lives unnecessarily because of the societies previous position.
cantleave: another thing you may want to know about the 6,000 year (7,000 actually) teaching is that it is of pagan origin.
The concept of the millenium at the end of 6 one thousand year periods started with the Zoroastrian tradition, was later picked up by Pharisees, then passed on to the Church Fathers. Also, it is impossible to give precise or even ballpark figures to the 6,000 year chronological scheme because there are many contradictory figures for the ages of the patriarchs between the Septuagint and the Masoretic text. To my knowledge all current Bibles are based on the Masoretic text but it was the Septuagint that the first century Christians preferred in their quotations. Therefore you cannot even trust any "chronological calculation" let alone base a "biblical theory" on it.

his motto is "yes we can!
" has he done what you expected?
any concerns?
Some of these "brilliant" people voted for him because he has pretty white teeth and McCain's was old and yellowed. Empty and vapid.
What McCain did to his first wife marks him as a man who is empty and vapid.

Evil is whatever someone perceives to act against his best interest to a great degree usually in the sense of causing death or humiliation or robbery.

i recently just got baptise an so excited to start my new life.
is there anyone have anyting to say fars how to keep myself close to god..
newwitness; The most important thing you must maintain is your curiosity and integrity. My curiosity got me into the witnesses, I thought I was learning the secrets of the Cosmos. But soon afterwards my curiosity made me realize that there was something wrong. Also, the pathological self worship of the Watchtower who keep pointing up to Jehovah with one finger but point right back down at themselves with three made me realize that there was something deeply wrong with the organization. That is where integrity comes in. You need a lot of integrity to realize you have made a mistake-we all do-and make a stand against an organization that is a total fraud left to right, up and down, and all around.
Your continued curiosity and integrity will lead you out of that religion. I urge you to investigate it as well as to reach inwards to where your intuition is and realize what virtually everyone on this board has found out with a lot of anguish. It's not "The Truth".
Welcome to the board.

so, if we came from apelike ancestors, what will we evolve into next, assuming we successfully avert extinction?
are we the apes of tomorrow today?
.
Almighty Homer, is that an Austrolopithecine reconstruction?
why should it matter what i'm reading?
amanda: what have you been reading?.
amanda: what have you been reading?.
Confession: that was good.
OTWO: Cat's in the cradle is one of my favorites. It reminds me of JW elders so robbed of time by the requirements of the Organization that they cannot spend any quality time with their children.

some religions go beyond shunning to outright honor killing.. http://abcnews.go.com/us/story?id=8303567&page=1.
is armageddon intended to be an outright threat to apostates, atheists, and fringe dwellers that do not belong to any religion or organization that takes a vow to a supreme being?.
is this threat coming from christian dominionists?.
I don't see a direct link between Muslim 'honor killing' and Dominionist Christianity although I admit that both are sanguinary and authoritarian.
I understand that Dominionist theology is trying to make inroads into the 'mainstream' evangelicals and fundamentalists. They have a different theology-Postmillenial-which basically states that Jesus is coming after the Millenium and that it is the responsibility of Christians to usher in the millenium instead of passively waiting for it to come like Premillenialists do. They expect that the world will convert to Christianity, supposedly peacefully, and will adopt a Theocratic government based on Old Testament civil law (without the ritualistic aspects). So called 'peaceful' conversion notwithstanding they make it clear that adulterers, homosexuals, witches, idolaters, etc will be executed.
I think the long term threat from dominionists is very serious. In the decades to come, as we suffer from problems such as peak oil, global warming related crop failures, and general social unrest that these types of religions especially Dominionists may take over the crumbling infrastucture of this failed state. To the extent that they do, they will be dangerous indeed.
For an example of what Dominionism or any Christian fundamentalist theocracy might look like I very highly recommend The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. It's available in book as well as video. The video has a better dramatic ending but the book should be read as well.
