Which of the Society's presidents did you like the least?
by donny inwhile i was a witness, i never liked or cared for j.f.
rutherford.
even with the society's whitewashing and trying to make him look like one who was part of the seven trumpet blasts in revelation, i could not stand the guy.

keyser,
Stole my thoughts...Rutherford is the worst of the lot, but without Russell there would have been no Ruitherford or even Witnesses. I wonder how things would have ended up for any (all) of us if Jehovah's Witnesses never existed. Would would be a part of another cult organization, or with one of the "mainstream" religions, something else?

How Long Have you Been Out of the Witnesses ? Have you Moved On ?
by flipper ini have been out over 5 years now.
i feel we all start healing at different speeds depending on how much hurt we went through in exiting ; and how much we've educated ourselves about how and why we were sucked in by a mind control cult.
at first i felt anger towards the organization , but after learning about mind control within 3 years of leaving the cult i felt sorry for those who are still trapped inside the witnesses being deceived.

Don,
Sorry to read of the truamatizing expereince. It is one of the things I worry about my family members that are trapped in the organization. The belief that my wife and me will be destroyed ("soon").
I feel bad especially for my mother with respects to that. For a mother to believe such a horrid fate awaits their child must be gut wrentching. Ditto for my siblings who think their eldest brother is going to be zapped/crushed/drowned or whatever for not being a part of the Jehovah's Witnesses organization.

My wife and I “officially” disassociated ourselves in May 2008. This was after what I recognize as years of having doubts but putting it off as “Waiting on Jehovah”, “Where Else To Go”, “Best Religion Out There” mentality. The months prior to May 2008, I did intense research which originally started with trying to understand the blood stance by the Society – which led to Organ Transplants – and then the rape stance. After bringing the information to my wife, she knew the organization was wrong too. We reached out to our family via a mini-book which assisted my wife's parents to leave the organization, but my side of the family – Parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, etc…have all shunned us. The exception is my father who “kind of” talks to me every now and then.
I don’t think I will ever “completely” move on. I believe the reasons are several:
1. The aforementioned family members still a part of the organization.
2. The impact it had and the amount of years I was a part of it.
3. The need to want to help others who are genuinely good people understand the organization for what it is.
I realize now that a lot of it was me not thinking it through completely or/and being cognitive dissonant. Factor that with the conscious and subconscious notion of shunning, the ideals that (eternal) life is lost, and all the other mind-controlling techniques utilized, it helped me understand myself, my family and many other things much clearer now.
I also understand now while despite being fairly intelligent I did poorly in history and the sciences, although excellent in math and reading. The history and science I learned and had the opportunity to learn about would have easily disproven many of the false notions and beliefs I held.
Anyhow, this is a great topic and looking forward to reading more responses.

Hi iknewit,
I too am sorry to read about the situation with your wife. However, don't ever doubt the choice you made. It *IS* the right one.
When I discovered the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses were not who they claimed to be one of the things I firmly established for myself is that no matter what I could not live a lie. I would sacrifice everything for the real truth.
For me, I was fortunate enough my wife and in-law parents broke free of the Watchtower's bonds. My parents, siblings, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins have not. Indeed, intelligence has not a thing to do with it. I average 135-145 on IQ tests - and it took into my mid 30's to see and understand the Watchtower Society for what it is after being raised a J.W.
Know that I admire your courage as you remain loyal to truth and to yourself.
