doesn't it just make you sick to your stomach?.
dozens of doctrine changes that effect the lives of the rank and file: the fds are only imperfect men and didn't understand the bible truths at the time.. pedophiles that are protected or not reported and allowed to stay in the congregation: these men are imperfect and this sin isn't unique to jws.
the organisation has it's problems just like any other...they are not perfect after all.. all their prophesies - failed: the fds are only imperfect men and have never claimed to be a prophet.. i am truly sick of this overused excuse.
Hi mraimondi,
Teaching/Beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses parallel Christadelphians in many areas.
Including:
-State that their beliefs are based wholly on the Bible.
-They believe that God is the creator of all things and the father of true believers, that he is a separate being from his son, Jesus Christ.
-Jesus is the promised Messiah, in whom the prophecies and promises of the Old Testament find their fulfilment.
-After death, believers are in a state of non-existence, knowing nothing until the Resurrection.
-Reject a number of doctrines held by many other Christians, notably the immortality of the soul, trinitarianism, the baptism of infants, the personhood of the Holy Spirit.
-Hell is understood to refer to death and the grave, rather than being a place of eternal torment.
-Organised into local congregations
-Women are typically not eligible to teach
-Refuse to participate in any military because they are conscientious objectors.
-A strong emphasis on personal Bible reading and study
Those are just some of the similarities. Any credit for the above given to Jehovah's Witnesses can equally be given to Christadelphians.
Teaching/Beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses parallel House of Yahweh as well:
-Membership of all races from nations all over the globe welcoming all "who will repent of sin and follow Yahweh's Law."
-Claims to be associated with no other faith and indeed asserts that other faiths, especially Christianity, are corrupt and false.
-Believes it is the one true faith, as revealed by the Creator from the beginning, and reestablished again in what they believe are the prophesied end times.
-Christmas, Easter, and birthdays are not celebrated.
-Once a year on the evening before Passover, members hold a solemn observance Memorial, referring to the Last Supper of Jesus Christ.
-Yahweh is the only one who deserves worship or adoration, and is the sovereign and only creator and ruler of the universe.
-Yahshua Messiah gave all glory, honor and obedience to Yahweh who is not a trinity, but one individual being with no equal or partners.
-They publish an edition of the Bible, which removes any and all words or concepts which are thought to be pagan corruptions.
Again, just some of the similarities. Any credit for the above given to Jehovah's Witnesses can equally be given to House of Yahweh.
do you all realize how tough it is for a second-generation witness?
what about a third-generation witness?
fourth?.
I was a second generation Jehovah's Witness. Raised in the organization, baptized at 15, and an MS for ~12 years. When I realize what the organization is (At best no different than any other religion, at worst a destructive cult), I had to stand for truth and honesty above all else.
I am married without children and studied with my wife's parents for years to bring them into the religion. My parents, brother, two sisters, and entire mother's side of the family are JWs. My father side of the family for the most part was cut out of my JW family lives a long time ago for the obvious reasoning of them not being JWs.
Regardless, my plan was to present the truth about the organization to my wife first and the rest of the family (Parents and siblings) simultaneously thereafter and whatever the result...Even if I lost everyone, I had to stand for truth and honesty. Indeed, the facts and history of the organizations current doctrinal problems, history, among other things needed to be known to those I loved most. Additionally, one of the huge problems I have with the organization was the hypocrisy I educated myself about...And I could not be a hypocrite myself - which I felt I would be if I remained in the organization. I am not speaking for others, just about me and how I felt about the situation.
The results?
My wife and her parents were able to see the truth about the organization and left it along with me.
My parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins all shun me now. My father talks/talked to me a few times, but the last time was close two 2 months ago (It use to be bi-weekly to monthly). Anyhow, for my parents and other members they have been in it for over 35 years. I understand why they stay in it and even refused to listen or read anything I provided to them. My father, I believe knows all I have said and shown him is true, but can't leave for the sake of my mother who has centered and focused her whole life to obedience to the organization. In her mind, loyalty to Watchtower Society = loyalty to God. I understand the stand they are taking, but still hope someday they will come to their senses and be able to break free of the indoctrination they have and continue to receive...Probably not, but I remain hopeful. My motto for this situation is to hope for the best, but expect the worst.
Nonetheless, for me it is the best thing I have ever done, and do not regret the decision. I am so happy, grateful, and appreciative that when my wife and I have children that they will not be raised in the organization and be more educated and have more choices in life than what I was limited to or had fears about. Furthermore, right now our marriage, happiness and joy have never been more evident in our lives since we disassociated ourselves. My wife and I, as well as mother and father-in-law have been more relaxed, at peace, and joyful since leaving the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses.
I am understanding to those who are or remain a Jehovah's Witness, despite not necessarily agreeing with the person's choice.
well, i picked my username because that's what i saw in front of me and i like the way it sounded.
no real story behind that.
i picked my avator because that's the way i felt.

i quite like the letter of complaint.
.
They had to cancel one 2 years ago because it had a sentence in it saying "Priests molest children...chrches cover it up...churches sold"...this right after MSNBC aired about the pedophilia scandal in the org. Anyone remember that?
A few years back, the Watchtower Society had a campaign with a tract entitled Keep on the Watch! which was published in 2004. Another campaign was supposed to take place in January 2008 with the same tract. The months leading up to January 2008 in Our Kingdom Ministry stressed and highlighted in its usual announcement area the literature placement indeed would be the Keep On The Watch! tract.
However, in a very brief Letter to the Body of Elders, dated November 14, 2007 it states:
"Please inform the congregation of the following adjustment to the January 2008 literature offer. Instead of the brochure Keep on the Watch!, the book What Does the Bible Really Teach? should be offered. If householders already have the book, publishers may offer any 192-page book printed on paper that discolors or any book published prior to 1992 with the exception of Creation, Mankind's Search for God, and Young People Ask."
This was a sudden and very surprising change of events for the Watchtower Society. Why cancel the campaign? Congregations already had their ample supply of tracts to distribute. Could there be something wrong with the tract itself?
On Page 3 under the section 'The Religious Scene', it states:
"Priest sexually exploit young people; church cover-up. Decline in attendance; church buildings sold."
At least the Watchtower Society stopped the hypocrisy this time around. Their 'Relgious Scene' is no different.

very interesting thread atjeff started about whether to fade or not.
(to fade or not to fade...an opinion) thought i would start a new thread with my thoughts, but not hijack his.. here are my thoughts on my own situation which may or may not reflect anyone else's situation.
sunday is our family day.
Congrats, Snake! I wish you all the best with the letter and your girlfriend.
When I DA'ed myself, it was one of the best choices I ever made... Despite my parents, brother, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins shunning me.
Thankfully, I have my wife and my in-laws and some non-JW family members.
I love my family, but I have to stand for (the real) truth.
"inciting hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality or sexuality or other personal characteristic.".
is this seriously one of the forum's rules to follow?
how can that be so when this whole forum is based on inciting hatred towards one religion.....jehovah's witnesses.......wow this is funny!
Hi scrapmama,
Welcome to the forum...
I hope to see more posts from you, and thank you for sharing your story.
Please continue to research and study!
Well put, Lime.
sitting down to whatever is dished up in front of you and eating it.
it requires very little brain power or imagination.
you just shovel in the food, burp, pat your tummy and no matter what it is you've eaten think it's a great meal.. being a free thinker is like a chef, the one who gets to construct the meal, thought is required, knowledge of what works together is required, a desire to cook the meal, imaginiation.. .
...taking the blue pill and ignoring the red one.
