Meet Squiggy
by John Doe ini've had him a week today.
he's quite a character.
he's hyper, likes to chirp, and has a habit of grabbing the long wooden swing you see in this picture and banging against the purch and the side of the cage.

You have to teach him to say "Preach the Word" " Preach the Word". We use to go to a book study when I was a kid and there bird would say that constantly.
Sorry he is very cute. Don't corrupt him

Dreaming of retiring in Florida?
by restrangled inreconsider!
here is the low down on maintenance and costs.. first of all with a brand new air system by trane (2 years) our bill is still 400 a month for cooling a 1650 square foot house.
electricity down here is very, very expensive.. mold and mildew during the summer months will take over a pool, deck, or the side of your house with in days.

Amen r.
I was born and raised in Miami and still have nightmare of the Palmetto Bugs. We had to run into the front door at night because the would swarm by the porch light. One time when I was little I put on a shirt that was dried out on the the line and out crawled a palmetto bug right up my neck EEEKKKK!!!!!! I hated the heat, the humidity, and never being able to sit in the grass because of the fire ants. We have lived in Colorado for 15 years and I will never leave. No Palmetto Bugs no Fire Ants no Humidity. Don't miss Fla at all.

...A Doggie Day in Hell...
by OUTLAW inever have one of those days..when you go outside, and part of your dogs throat has been ripped out?...
that was the begining of my day... i have no idea what attacked him..whatever it was,was f*cking vicious!
!..there was a 2 inch hole of missing fur and skin on his neck.....and a severed artery......also a 2 inch hole of missing fur and skin on his leg.....and..another severed artery.....there was blood everywhere... the nearest vet is 1 1/2 hours away..i phoned in and told the doctor to be ready for me... i tied the dogs wounds up with tee-shirts to try to minimilize the bleeding..then put a 100 lb bleeding dog,in the back of the truck..........poor dog tried to stand up in the truck..his neck started to gush with blood..i got him to lie down..the bleeding slowed.....i jumped in the truck and drove..that was one long hour and a half... the doctor came out..looked at the dog,ran back in and brought out a stretcher..it took three of us to bring him in so he would`nt move around..that dog has spunk!..lol!!.

If there is pool or somewhere to swim. I recomend starting the day off with a nice swim. This will help zap some of that endless energy. We have a non stop four year old and when on vaction we hit the pool first. And he is a lot more mellow during the day.
Just my 2 cents

Family Vacation in Colorado. Suggestions?
by M.J. ini would really love to take my family (including a couple of small kids...and maybe the dog) on a road trip to the colorado rockies in late summer.
i'd like to spend at least a week out there.
any ideas on places with some good scenery, activities, places to stay (a cabin would be cool).. i haven't been out there before, and i don't know if i want to just stay in one area or make some sort of "grand circuit".

what was the worst advice you were ever given
by rockmehardplace ini was that one way to increase my field service time for me and my wife was by standing at a truck stop and hand out tapes to truckers in the early mornings.
this is the same lot that is frequented by drug dealers and hookers.
another time, while studying, i said i did not understand the blood issue.

Hey Loosie-
Got the same advice we have been married 19 years both out for 7+. The funny thing is the elder giving the advice has been divorced for years. Aren't you glad we didn't listen to these crack pots?

I can't imagine doing THAT in my wildest dreams.....
by AK - Jeff inputting on a three piece suit to spend a 90 degree summer day knocking on doors and trespassing!dragging an entire family, including babies and young children to three or four day meetings in an outdoor stadium, living in a seedy motel room for the week.getting home from work and spending the next six hours cramming for a 'theocratic review', getting the entire family ready to go, gulping down dinner, and speeding off to the hall, and then finally getting home around 11 pm, hurrying off to bed so that everyone could get up for work and school in the morning!going to school to explain to the teachers why little johnny can't color pictures of santa, salute the flag of his country, eat birthday cake with all the other 5 year olds, bow his head when prayer is offered, or exchange valentines with all the cute 5 year old girls in class.
and then explaining with grace why he is not immersed in a cult!well, on and on!
these things were typical of my witness life - now i cannot imagine ever doing such silly things, and especially thinking that somehow they would bring pleasure to my god!.

I don't have to imagine, that was my childhood and the first part of my adult life. Fortunately for our children we faded before they were subjected to a childhood of that. I do feel for the poor kids that know no other life than the drudgery that is being a JW.

What Was It That Finally Got You To Leave The Organization?
by minimus inwhat pushed you over the edge?.

What started me thinking was this God's true organization was the lack of love for each other. You were just a number, make sure you turn in your time and regular meeting attendance so our numbers for the congregation don't look bad. Also the segregation and cliques based on race or financial status. This was real obvious in the congregation I attended as a teenager, and from what I hear it still is today.Jesus associated and cared about everyone . I couldn't believe he would want to be part of an organization like this. So I started researching there doctrines and it all became very clear.
