  Why Do Americans Live Shorter Lives Yet Spend So Much for Health Care ???

  every time i see statistics comparing average lifespans amoung countries, why is the usa so far down the list???.

  with susposedly the best healthcare in the world (for those who can afford it), the last study i saw ranked the usa at number 38 in the world.

  yet, we spend 4, 5 or even 10 times more per person on health care than most others.. what gives ???.

  I don't think it as much to do with availabillity of healthcare so much to do with getting off their fat butts and stopping the bad habits. It is hard to give up french fries and all that greasy crap. It is hard to start a running program. It is hard to start an exercise program.

  It is a lot easier to go to the doctor, say you're doing all of the above when you're not and go back home, flop on the sofa and eat a bucket of KFC.

  How do I know? I listen to my Mom talk and then do the above.

  Then I tell her I'm going for a run and she can't understand how I do it or why.

  So, she has high cholestrol and all kinds of other issues.

  Just like all millions of other Americans who sit on their butts and justify eating a multi-vitamin and say that walking to the car in the parking lot counts as exercise.

  JW-Based Reality Show !!!

  so as not to hijack the paulapollos thread, i just couldn't help but think about the possibility of a jw-based reality show.. i have two initial ideas at this time but other ideas are welcome..

  ) a "house" type of reality show.

  this would be like a bethel type of setting with a dozen or so brothers living in a common area and cameras on them all the time.

  Hysterical. The first one is good. Though the shower scene is a little disturbing.

  (Cough, cough) Why would any guy be watching another guy taking a shower?

  Unless it's a prison?

  Taking Sodium Seriously!

  i am, along with my wife, trying to find creative ways to lower our sodium intake.

  the aha recommends a diet consisting of less than 1500 mg of sodium daily - yet most americans eat at least twice that.

  i believe now, having spent most of a morning looking through grocer shelves to determine sodium levels, that twice the level might actually be a very low estimate.

  I love salt. I put salt on all my food. I have low BP, always have. Luckily. I have started watching because my husbands is high. I have to stop for him and watch what I put in and on everything. So, I have tried eating stuff without and with no salt.

  That is tough. On the plus side is less water retention. Food tastes like crap, but less water. There is always a bright side.

  as a christian, i would like to apologize for the stupid and insensitive remarks made by pat robertson.

  instead of throwing stones from his ivory tower in virginia, he should have taken a que from the one he claims to follow who when asked about the murders of galileans making their sacrifices by pilate said, "do you think that these galileans were worse sinners than all the other galileans because they suffered this way?

  but unless you repent, you too will all perish.

  Pat Robertson is to Christians what the Underwear Bomber and other radical Muslims are to Islam. IMO. And many other calm, rational people like me. *We* realize that he is a moron who doesn't speak for mainstream Christians anymore than Osama Bin Ladin does for mainstream Muslims.

  So, when a Liberal (It usually is a Liberal) groups all *Christians* under the banner of the 700 Club, *they* look not too bright. Would the Pope agree with Pat Robertson?

  I don't think you need to apologize for him at all. Especially on a board full of Ex-JWs. People who might have agreed with his message not too long ago when they were JWs. They might not have voiced it, but they thought it. You know they did.

  i'm sure they will get asked on the doors "how could god let this happen?".

  i belive the standard answer is a fudged recitation of adam and eve, basicly meaning its ok that these people died becuase way back when, someone disobeyed god, and that makes it ok.... any other stupid jw explanations for this?.

  My hypocrite JW family

  recently my mum told her jw family that she was da'ing herself and why.

  as you can imagine, they were not happy and the shunning has begun (not to mention one of her sisters sending her a horrible letter and the other sister spitting vitriol and hatred down the phone at her - very christian).. now, if my mum's family were totally upright, loyal and zealous witnesses the shunning would still be horrible but somehow easier to bear - at least you could respect their consistency.

  but the fact is, one of her sisters has covered up and made excuses for years for the immoral and wayward behavoiur of her own children, proudly declaring 'no one (meaning the gb) tells me what to do'.

  I am so very sorry you and your Mom are dealing with this. This is not uncommon at all within the JW bOrg. The DFd cousin/niece is a new one. I have a DFd cousin who will speak to me at least.
