I could go on and on. I was in touch with all my family this weekend. Hence my list.
there are many generations of xjws here.
i'm curious as to what happened to you in school.. were you sent to the library during festivities, allowed to stay home, or allowed to participate?
enter the years if you can and the number of jw's with you.. mine: mid 1960's to mid 70's.
My sister and I were the only JW kids in a very Catholic neighborhood in Chicago. We went to a public school and during morning class when the pledge was done, I was made to go into the coatroom by one teacher (first grade) and made to stand in the hall by another (second grade). Third grade is a blur.
By those same teachers, the first grade teacher was the worst. She was a much older lady who, seemingly, despised me for being a JW kid. I was very quiet and only brought notes from my Mom. Mom never, ever showed up to tell the Principal or teachers of what we were to not do. Only notes, which is why they maybe didn't like us.
During holidays and birthdays, I got put in the coatroom or again, the hallway. Just sit there. The coatroom was an area that was about 3 foot deep and had hooks on the wall for coats. Pull down black boards covered the area. At least I could take a nap while everyone else sang and ate cookies and cake.
Overall, I hated school. Until 4th grade. The teachers assistant was really nice to me.
This was during the late 60's and early 70's.
i don't know about anyone else, but even when i was 14 or 15 i had an issue with the fact that women are weaker vessels than men and we are to be submissive to our "head" of the house etc.... people just assumed i was a moody teenager trying to be cool by disagreeing with those scriptures but i was a feminist in the making.. i even asked an elder's wife about it and i said to her: "you're a headstrong woman, how do you feel about this?
do you think you should succumb to paul's every word and do as he says all the time??".
she replied: "i hate that scripture too sarah.
WTWizard--
how many of you would walk away from your mortgage?
do you think it's a smart move or unethical?
sammieswife.. american dream 2: default, then rent.
Here is a very good article from Realty Trac (trade publication) on the hows and whys of why people are walking away. Below is a small snippet:
The idea of walking away from a mortgage remains far beyond the norms of either socially-acceptable or financially-responsible behavior. No less important, the act of walking away has substantial consequences.
For most borrowers the threat of a monetary judgment cannot be ignored. Under federal rules, judgments can remain on credit reports for seven years or “or until the governing statute of limitations has expired, whichever is the longer period.”
In many states, judgments remain in force for 10 years — a period which can be extended for an additional 10 years if the judgment is renewed.
Not only do judgments remain on credit records for many years, lenders routinely require that judgments must be repaid before new credit will be granted for larger loans, such as those used for cars and homes.
The result is that those who walk away from mortgages may be pauperized for decades because they will be unable to get credit at reasonable cost — if they can get credit at all.
“In the same way that we expect lenders to meet baseline standards of conduct, we must also have the same expectations with borrowers,” says James J
. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac.com, the online foreclosure site that receives more than three million visitors each month. “The idea that
walking away from a mortgage is somehow acceptable should be seen for what it is: A destructive notion that will result in sharply-higher mortgage rates for all
borrowers, something any thinking person should vehemently oppose.”

Personally, I think people who purchased homes that are now underwater created the problem. Yes, they can rent for less. What is your credit worth? What is the judgement worth? You still have to work out all the details with the bank and there are legalities that need to be worked out. Everyone loses.

Psac, you do quite a bit around the home; that is great. Looking, as long as your wife doesn't know, is OK. Your wife not knowing is the key.
just supposing that you belive in it... i used to always wonder, how on earth are we going to get from one country to the other?
i mean old type ships used to take months to get around!
what about land travel?
That is not something proper to speculate about. Jehovah will take care of it all. Now go out in service so you can speculate about proper things. Like which house you're going to get when the present inhabitants die at Armaggedon.
Hey, I've got dibbs on the White House!!

If Burkas could be passed on a Biblical, the JW women would be wearing them. You can bet the men in Brooklyn would have passed that one as a principal that Jesus would have approved.
The JWs need women as second class slaves. What better way than to twist biblical words (the NWT is not a true translation) and use those words to keep a group of people down? Especially a group of people who are desperately hoping for Everlasting Life and Paradise?
Desperate people will do anything. Especially brainwashed desperate people.

The point is not to think about that kind of stuff. That is petty and *worldly*. Actually it is greedy and somehow selfish, don't you think?
First of all, you should be thinking about the billions of bodies you'll be burying for the foreseeable future immediatly after Armageddon. Seriously, have you thought about how you are going to bury all those dead bodies? How are you going to dig graves? Or are you just going to *Wait on Jehovah* to Zap those bodies into oblivion? Don't you think he's going to make you work for Paradise? I mean seriously, this is the God who made Noah build an Ark for a flood. He could have helped him a little. Like just put Noah on top of a Mountain. Maybe. Be a nice God and all.
Second, when your done, (assuming you made it through of course), you can sit back, relax and pet your lion. That's right, your very own Lion King!!!
Just like all the Awake! Magazines have been showing for years. Won't that be fun?
As for farming? Nah, you'll be picking berries off of bushes. Foraging for roots. Maybe if you're lucky your pet lion will have fleas and you can pick those off and scarf. YUM!!
So, won't living in the NEW SYSTEM be fun? Exciting? Something to look forward to?
