What do I do ?

hey guys, this is my first time posting on here but lets get started.. so i'm a 17 year old boy who currently attends meetings at a congregation in indianapolis.

i live with my grandparents, on my father's side, because my mother died in 2010. i been attending meetings since i was 10. my mother got into the religion but then got disfellowshiped.

my dad is on and off, he currently just got reinstated.

I was baptized when I was 12-all my family was in. Parents were divorced and Dad was DFd for smoking, sister DFd for fornication, Mom was DFd for fornication. Mom was reinstated. She's still in...40+ years later!!

I faded when I started college. Community college. I used the excuse of not going out in Field Service (FS) that I had homework. What was more important? My getting good grades or a few less hours in FS? My Mom decided that my getting good grades was critical to lifelong success.

I also worked because I was paying for my college. I had student loans and I thought I had to pay them immediately...D'oh! Anyway, it also provided cover for a good fade. Work, homework and I had meetings and FS covered.

Think hard about college or Vo-Tech. Whatever you do, get an education. They can't take that away from you.

Never send a letter and never meet with them to tell them what you are doing. They will want to bully you, guilt you and frighten you into staying. What kind of "loving" organization does that? None, they are a cult by definition. Scientologists are just as bad. Ask Lea Remini.

My Mom and family still talk to me because my response to JW questions is "Mmmm" or "huh" or a grunt. I never agree or disagree. I find an excuse to get off the phone. Learn to bite your tongue and you'll have a relationship with the family....if you want one.

he had a young pretty sister who was escorting him around.

i stood behind them and rocognized him instantly.

When I was in college, it was close to an Amish community. One of my roommates worked at one of the Amish dairy's during her summers and holidays. She had lots of pics of her wearing the Amish head covering. She said she got so used to wearing it, she wore it all the time! She never thought about it until I took a Middle Eastern Religions studies class. It opened her eyes. She took it off and only wore it when working.

My Mom, still in, will put the napkin on her head unthinkingly. I have gotten on her for her completely wacko views like this. It drives me crazy. On other issues regarding men vs. women she is a feminist. I have no idea how she reconciles being a JW on one hand and a "feminist" on the other.

Completely nutz.

I listened to the interview. What really got me was this, and I'm quoting from the professor:

" Pro-Equity. Why are there so many white students who seem more outraged than the students of color? There seems to be a syllogism out there that seems to suggest that because people of color helped build the world and helped white people, white people are indebted to people of color. And, that therefore, when people of color ask for something that white people should provide it.

And what that has led to is this situation where you have basically white anarchists that are actively acting on behalf of a movement of people of color. And there is a danger to this."

The Professor goes on to describe a meeting he was in later where the white students were threatening him while the students of color were just demanding things and demanding he resign. The white kids were talking of kidnapping him, beating him up, macing him and other things to actually harm him!!

He went on to talk about why the white students are indebted to the students of color.

The "White Anarchists" is an interesting term.

These college campuses are totally out of control.

New and confused

please don't hate on me.. im a 30 something blind woman, who has been aware of the witnesses a while.

after my dad died five years ago - i questioned my own faith - christian (anglican).

tried everything - the occult, new churches etc.. 3 years ago i was suggested to have a study by a good friend who is jw.

Having been raised as a JW, they put high value on Field Service and the Ministry. If you are at all capable of going out door-to-door, even with a handicap, they will expect you to. And, with a handicap, they will use that to their advantage. You will be less threatening and people may be more inclined to listen and perhaps open the door.

BTW, going door-to-door sucks. Between being told "No, not interested" to the dogs chasing you to clearly home people not answering the door, there is no "Upside" to going out door-to-door.

Reading this my first reaction was "This is a horrible, evil person who did this". I just can't fathom why you would douse someone in gasoline and light them on fire. What a horrendous way to die.

This has been a fascinating read.

I'm born in; 3rd gen. My maternal great-grandparents were in back in 1914 waiting for the great big A to happen. Then nothing. She had my grandfather and he never gelled with the JWs. He married my totally cray-cray maternal-grandmother and she jumped on the JW crazy train. 4 kids later and they divorced when my Mom was 12.

Fast forward: He got custody of 4 girls in the 1950's!! She (crazy grandmother) disappeared and my Mom got suckered in by the JWs going door-to-door by a neighbor lady in 1968.

My Dad was nothing. We never went to church. We did birthdays, Christmas (I was only 4 when she joined) and that's all I recall. Then I was in kindergarden and I was told I couldn't say pledge to the flag or sing happy birthday etc.

Dad got baptized and became an MS. Then he wanted out and got himself DFd. All within 10 years. He was gone.

We got stuck with Mom and she is still in. Ardently, I might add. I just received my mailed Watchtower and Awake mags yesterday. Puke.

I would call my parents, all my aunts on my Mom's side and their spouses, idiots. They all joined for the 1975 rhetoric. They all had various reasons (looking back I see what, etc) for wanting "Paradise", however, when it didn't happen they could have walked away. They still had friends on the outside. Now? Way too late. They are locked in. All their friends and associates are JWs. And kids. And kids of kids. Except me. I'm the Apostate.
