  need help re 607 date

  i am new to this.. i have a problem.

  someone on my ministry asked me about the date that we hold so dear....607 bce and asked me to prove it to them.

  this would not be a problem i thought as the f&ds would have solid basis for using such a date.

  The secular date of 586 or 587 in its own way confirms the validity of a scripturally reckoned date of 607. I make this somewhat surprising statement because there are some scholars who regard the chronology in the old testament as symbolic or mythical.

  I find it funny that people who consider the Bible to be the word of God and historically correct would make such a statement as you have. From what I can see, a simple reading of Daniel backs up the 586/587 recollection. If the OT chronology indeed is 'mythical', then exactly how much of the text can truly be considered accurate? Where is it's authority as the word of God?

  It amuses me to see the society discounting scripture when it does NOT go along with their chronology. I just feel sorry for you falling for erred logic.

  Sickening abuse case in the UK

  i'm sure anyone in the uk will have heard about the poor little 8 year old girl who was subjected to appalling abuse and killed.. i just feel so angry right now...how could so many police, doctors, social workers let her down and fail to act when the signs were so clear and pointed out to them?.

  what are they there for, for goodness sake?.

  they should all be sacked for incompetence and failing to do what they get well paid for.

  I don't know how many people on this board know the 'filthy' comedian George Carlin here in the USA, but I am reminded of one of his bits he performed on-stage. He recommended taking all of the child molesters, murderers and rapists and grouping them all together in one part of the respective country, erecting HUGE walls which were impassable, and letting them destroy each other.

  Sometimes, while far fetched, this sounds like a great idea.

  The Biblical interpretation you put forth is indeed your own ideas, and some of the big WT's. You are doing nothing more than fulfilling your own prophecy by re-interpreting other's ideas.

  Hello all.

  I think that JAVA was just venting some anger. I know I get frustrated when I am talking to a JW that is just absoloutely certain that I am demon infested. I think JAVA really wanted to say what he said to the people back in Brooklyn (regarding "old farts"). I know I get frustrated, knowing what I know, whenever I hear a JW talk of a man made organization as if it were God.

  Too often we have to read between the lines, in the older publications the thoughts are stated very emphatically, in the years past, the Society has had to resort to double-talk, because of the stigma it caused the JW's, as they realized that Jesus was not their mediator or that they were under the new covenant.

  Makes since RR. Now I see why people put so much faith into this org. Again, what are they to say to those who consider themselves annointed? Do they just keep turning down people telling them "no you're not", or what? Very interesting.

  hey all, hope you're having a great year so far.. before witnet was closed down, there was an interesting discussion regarding the fds and their failed prophecies.

  i asked a question, but unfortunately there wasn't enought time to get everyone's view.. so i'll rephrase my posts, and wait to hear from y'all.. if we are so quick to say that the fds is a false prophet because of some failed prophecies (even tho they say they don't prophecy, we all know better) then how would you explain the bible book of jonah?.

  a faithful prophet, jonah, followed (after much trial and tribulation to himself) jehovah's command to declare destruction on the city of nineveh.
