Why would the JW's post an increase in numbers? Are they just not realizing when they publish it? it seems they'd work the numbers to make it LOOK like its going down, no?

ten plagues....was it real blood in the river?
by homeschool indo most christians and/or jw's believe it was real blood?.

hehe...a babpist priest invited me & my hubby to church last night to see a "motivational" speaker. We thought "sure why not"....it was interesting . I kinda let my mind wander once the guy started bashing homosexuality...but when he started talking about the ten plagues, he got really gruesome in his description of wiping lambs blood on people's doors so their firstborns wouldnt be killed. As he was telling this story with such enthusiasm , I couldnt help but think 'i dont believe god would create life, view life as SoooOOOoo sacred no matter what life it is, and then make people go and grab little lambs for the sake of a sacrifice and have them cut them open and smear their blood on their doors.' If god was so loving, he'd figure out some other swell way to have people honor him and show obedience. thats just freaking gross.
ANYWAY..... nuff about that. it just got me thinking when the speaker was talking about the river of blood. Later, I said to my hubby "do they really believe it was real blood? Do the JW's really believe that?" to which he told me that it was probably red algae or volcanic stuff that made it APPEAR to be blood.
So my question: Is that how Christians and/or JW's view it? Do they really believe it was REAL blood? or do they view it as symbolic? For some reason, it just gave me the giggles thinking about all the goofiness that some people believe.

Steven Hassan's Cult book...
by homeschool inok, so i'm over halfway through with this book on combatting cult mind control.
does the dude ever mention jw's (besides one page in the bibliography at the end)?
if not, would there be a way to get a jw to read the book, maybe pointing fingers at some other cult religion so you dont appear to be talking about the witnesses?

Detective...I hear ya. Actually, the book really imprints in your mind the fact that ANYTHING you say that even KIND OF makes them think you're criticizing their faith will turn some kind of switch off in their heads so they quit listening to you. Its so wild. On a related note, I approached my sister and said "hey sis, am i allowed to ask you a question without sounding like an apostate?" she was like "of course"....i swear i've never tried so hard to keep my ego out of the equation (and without sounding fake). I said "Well, I'm really confused....it seems like growing up, I remember them saying at every meeting that people who lived in 1914 would not see the end of this system of things. Did that change? Is that what the New Light is about?" Firstly, she said "where'd you hear that from?!"
to which I responded "I really dont remember....its been awhile but it just popped in my head". My point is.....I'm gonna do everything in my power to make her answer my question without criticizing her faith. I want HER to come up with the answer that it doesnt make sense (although at this point in the game i'm sure she has NO doubts and it'll fly over her head. THis time....) Ya'll wish me the best!Oh, so anyway, she's supposed to come up with an answer for me on Friday night.

i just wish there was some way to make it sound like "wow...there are some really crazy cults out there! You (JW) should read it to figure out ways to talk to cult members out in service." ...... i know, I know, wishful thinking

Are there things they DON'T tell you until AFTER you're baptized?

they dont tell you that once you've joined, they believe that there is NO excuse or reason as to why you'd want to leave. And then you must either officially disassociate yourself, causing any loved ones still in the faith to shun you for life. Or you will "technically" stay a part of them for the rest of your life (but "fade" and not show them that you really love to celebrate birthdays and christmas), continually feeling like you should Disassociate yourself. Grrrrrrr.

Well, just finished reading it. Thanks, guys, for your insight. LOL...i contemplated blacking out the words or tearing the single bibliography page out too. Well, for anyone who sees this post, I HIGHLY recommend reading the book.

This book rocks! I started my fade about 12 years ago and never read any "apostate" literature until recently. This author wasn't even a jw apostate, but he sure does hit the nail on the head!

Yes, jwfacts....in reality, it is hard. When it happened last night, i was just shocked at her quick negative freak out reaction! (plus I'm always a happy drunk so I didnt wanna pick a fight) ..... but i asked her to let me set one up for her and to give it a chance for two weeks. if she wanted to after that, she could quit. But she just wasnt hearing it. my hubby said he remembers at the conventions a couple years ago that they slammed My Space from the stage, but that people still joined...even pioneers and ms's. When I was still a jw, i'd probably have followed the Kingdumbhall rules like my sis....
