I ordered the book but it still hasn't arrived . My patience is wearing thin, but don't worry, I won't give in . Question: What do you think would happen if I said to my sister, "Sis, would it be alright if I asked you questions & then you repeat them back to me so I know you understand what I'm saying? And then maybe we could discuss it a week later?".... is that confrontational? does the book speak about that? In my experience, the main reasons I get into fights/arguments with loved ones, it's usually because I feel like I've not been heard. And I don't believe I'm alone with that. Its drives me NUTS to remember when I was a jw and somebody would ask me a question. Firstly, I usually prayed to Jahooba beforehand for guidence so that I 'may answer all their questions'. And then, as soon as somebody (like a return visit) would ask a question, my mind was already racing, not really hearing what they were saying, and I was trying to grab any plausible answer, even if it sounded like crap to everybody but me. And then the subject was closed (in my mind, anyway).

When Debating With Witnesses- Is Arguing Doctrine Beneficial ? Steve Hassan
by flipper inmy wife and i have been reading " releasing the bonds " by steve hassan and it makes some interesting points about assisting people to get out of any cult.
notice this excerpt from chapter 6 from the book.
hassan states, " it is also important to understand that in most bible -based cults, although the member is aggressively taught doctrine, it is not the doctrine that holds him in the group.

BREAKING MY SILENCE EVERYONE READ!!!
by D8TA inas ive made it known on this board, my current status with the watchtower bible and tract society is that of inactive.
this is a loophole i have utilized, to keep an open channel of communication with family members in the organization.. i want to clarify with everyone: i do not hold any doctrinal ideas, theology, ideology, opinions expressed in any form by the wtbts.
therefore, to simply put, i do not believe in the wtbts in any way, shape, or form.

This is what my husband keeps telling me. Would it work if the elders came to my house and saw a Christmas tree standing in my living room?

We were talking this morning about how distracted we get. I was mentioning how I was trying to do business paperwork yesterday, but every two minutes I kept getting distracted & doing stuff like the dishes, and then vacuming, and then making a to do list, and then taking the dogs out to pee. I finally had to sit my butt down and get it done! The only reason I think I kept getting distracted is because business paperwork bores me to tears! and I hate doing it!
And then she said "yeah, the same thing happens to me when I'm trying to study for the meetings!" I hadnt mentioned to her WHY I believe I get distracted, but couldn't help but think she gets distracted for the very same reason, even if its totally subconscious.

Does eating a rare steak = eating blood?
by neverendingjourney ini always wondered about this when i was still a jw.
i just assumed that it was improper for a jw to eat any meat that wasn't thoroughly cooked, especially steak.
i though everyone could see that the red juice contained blood, which, if eaten, amounted to a violation of the prohibition against eating blood.

I was under the impression that jw's are NEVER to give blood. ?
How is it that they can accept stuff that comes only from blood yet they do not donate it. Seems a little hypocritical.
Didn't leolaia also say that there's a scripture in Acts that states we should not eat anthing that has been strangled? ...and that many animals today in the slaughterhouses are killed exactly by that means?
Unless it is labeled "kosher", we do not know how much blood is left in the meat, correct? This is not an attempt to turn people into vegetarians, I swear. I am just wondering why jw's are so technical about certain things, but overlook others that seem just as important, according to the bible.

by jambon1 ini had nice friends that i chose.
i loved them & they loved me.
we had some nice friends.. but i do find it difficult to be extreemly close to people who stand by the rules of d/f.. my worldly friends are astounded that modern day people treat others like this.. i have found lovely friends in the 'wicked world'.

It's a process, that's for sure. Go with your gut. You're on the right track.

I had this question for my jw mother today and heard the "meat juice" theory. I'm not satified with that answer. Ohhhhhhh the hypocrisy

PSAC/ aka "Daddy" (lol) I couldn't agree more with your illustration. Makes perfect sense.
hello homeschool. It is interesting that you are willing to study with your sister to try to get her to reason. If this is your aim, my suggestion is that you "pick your battles."Quandry, I am willing to do whatever it takes.
Anymore advice is welcome. Thanks.
