i was talking to a ministerial servant today, and the subject of marriage came up.
he said something very interesting, that recently many of the friends he grew up with in the truth (he is in his 30s) are on their second or third marriage.. he also talked about a more recent phenomenon that more empty nester jws (couples whose kids have left home), are deciding they don't want to stay together and are getting divorced.. we're talking about couples who have been married 20, 25, 30 or more years suddenly deciding to call it quits and it's not necessarily that they are looking for someone else; they simply want out of the marriage.. divorce does seem to be on the increase in congregations, especially the last one i attended.. it reminds me of a scripture in malachi we would sometimes hear about "not divorcing the wife of your youth".
why do you think divorce and separation are on the rise among long time married jws?.
I've noticed that it just takes one couple in a congregation to separate for the 'flood gates' to open and several others to follow suit, almost as if it was a game of chicken to see who could stay in their rotten marriage the longest.

So are these people getting DF'd for getting divorced? There's NO way they would change their rules on this. Right??

i would love to do this on a mass scale... think there might be something "big" in the results.. 1. were you a born-in (including those who's parents converted while they were still children) or did you convert as an adult?.
2. when you left, did you still (a) fully believe in the truthtm, (b) partially believe or (c) realise it was all a load of crap?.
1. Born in. My mother was baptized just a couple years before I was born. My father converted when I was around 8
2. I totally thought it was the truth, but I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired all the time.
3. I feel it's a load of crap and now I REALLY feel like it's a cult
4. That fear of Armaggedon stayed with me for a good 6 years. Its been approx 12 years since I faded. Now, the end of the world only consumes about .5% of my brain.
5. Agnostic. I can't shake the feeling that I'm being taken care of and I say thanks pretty much every day.

Maybe some people from here would be kind enough to become fast, REAL friends with you (kind of an oxymoron I guess) & then you could put them on your reference list.
That's really great that you want to do that. I know a couple people who have really made a difference in children's lives. Mad props to you!

I had many lightbulbs, but its only through looking back, I can see they were there. As a child, my mother and I went to a door & the householder yelled at her. "how can you bring your child out to do this when she should be home watching cartoons?!" May not have been those exact words but its what I remember.
*my father constantly telling me what I couldn't do because "what would people think"
*when I expressed my serious doubts around age 18, the girl I was talking to said "But you KNOWWW its the truth!" and she got really annoyed with me. That's when I realized I wasn't allowed to say what was going on in my head without getting in trouble.
Once I realized that I didn't think of Jehooba's Witnesses as the 'truth', all sorts of things kept popping out at me but it took a good 6 years before I REALLY felt they weren't the truth. It took another 5 years before I found this site.

do you take pain killers?
i know that the pain killers are not the safest way to do it.
The fleshy part between your thumb and forefinger...that's another pressure point. It feels very uncomfortable to push on but it will absolutely help with a headache. If you can get somebody else to do it for a couple minutes, that would be great. Where does the headache affect you?...by your eyes? from your neck up the back of your head? by your temples? Or is it just on one side or the other? If it's a migraine, medicine is the most effective. However, massage therapy is VERY beneficial to help prevent migraines and headaches. You have so many nerves that run right up the center of your spine into your skull...if your neck muscles are tight, they pinch those nerves which can cause headaches, nausea, fatigue. It's quite common for your 1st vertebrae, C1, to get out of place. And when that happens, headaches can occur. Have you ever seen a chiropractor?

Angel, I have not attacked you. I do wonder your view, though, on my comments. Do you feel it was appropriate for the WT Society to take sentences out of context to make their point? For instance, they quoted the Catholic Encyclopedia, saying that the trinity has no backing....when, in fact, that is not how the actual quote states. I'm afraid if I were to ask the local body of elders, they would not answer me or they would accuse me of apostacy. I am just goin' from past experience (never been accused of apostacy by the elders, but they certainly tippytoed around my questions).

the flds church is much more strict than jw's, but reading the book made me see that jw's are not the only ones who believe certain things, like that they have the "truth", or the roles of women, or the way men make their own decisions and then claim it's from god.
