What happens if you lose your home US style?
by ThomasCovenant ini'm not sure if i heard correctly on a bbc radio program this week but someone may have said that in the u.s. if you go behind on your mortgage payments and you simply hand in the keys and give up the home that's it.
in the u.k. if you do, i believe you are still liable for the shortfall owing.. e.g.
mortgage owing = 100,000. house repossessed and sold by bank for 60,000. the bank still pursue you for the 40,000 shortfall.. is this the same in the u.s.?.

Dumest thing you did !!
by cluless ini thought i would enjoy a few hours cathing up on events on the board.. i purchased a kebab pizza and opend a cold beer.
unfortunately i put my cigarette butt out in the newly opend beer can-.
okay by my standards thats not dumb...but has anyone done a dumer thing whilst on this board?.

I drove to the drive in at Burger King, done the order, payed, and instead of driving to the cashpoint, I just drove on. Approximately half an hour later, I discovered that there was somrthing missing! Believe it or not, my head was so occupied with various other things, that I didn`t realize what stupid mistake I did. What the staff must have thought, you can imagine. ; )

do jws in the us or elsewhere do the same?.
well, the reason i`m asking, is the fact that i never really understood what the hell is the difference between such an event and a birthday party?.

well, the reason i`m asking, is the fact that i never really understood what the hell is the difference between such an event and a birthday party?
i asked an elder once about this when i was a jw. the answer he gave me i found absolutely weird: he said basicly that a birthday celebration is focused solely on one person instead of two (a marriage anniversary)! so, in other words - it`s ok to idolize (well, that`s the main reason and doctrine of the wt) a couple rather than a single person.
so what`s so wrong about birthday partys? just because it has a pagan history? wedding rings used to have a pagan background, so what? well, i know the wt points out to the 2 bible verses, which indicates that those two birthdays had a bad outcome. but have any of you guys expirienced someone having their heads chopped off at a birthday? well, i certaintly haven`t. and if anyone decides to overdo the drink, well it`s their head and health, it has nothing to do with the person who invited the guest.

i was methodist.
i was horrified when attending my first jw meeting and hearing the simple piano music over the speakers ... compared to the live orchestra performed at the methodist church.

hi sacolton,
i was raised as a protestant, but my parents were`nt really church goers. as a child i attended the sunday school which was based on the christian faith. so really speaking, until the age of 20 (the time as someone knocked on my door ; ) ) i wasn`t sure whether god existed or not. i more or less followed the average way of a church member, without any, or hardly bible knowledge.
the jw brother who knocked on my door that day, left a blue book behind called "creation or evolution". i think i read that book in one night. although i had no real interest in biology and science, it did one thing though: it changed my life completely. not in a day, weeks or months, but gradually. since reading that book, i was totally convinced (still am) that god is a reallity. i know this might not be very popular to say on this board, but i`m trying to be honest.
funny enough, the last book i read was from the author richard dawking, with the title "der gotteswahn" (i dont know the english title). although he is a convinced atheist and a very clever scientist, the book itself had the opposite effect to me, which means it supported my belief in god even more!
apart from this board, which i joined yesterday, i do not have any contact to any other ex-jws. it`s not that i don`t care, i just happen to live in a tiny town with hardly any ex-jws i know personally.
talking about former jws: one of the most weirdest things i ever experieced in the truth, was what happend to that brother who initially studied the bible with me. he was such a devotee, a special pioneer, an elder and a very recognized brother (later on he was one of most influential member in selters, germany). well, to make a long story short: he left the org and joined the catholic church. if you would have knowen that guy, it would have been the last thing you would expected from him. until this day, no one who knew him ever grasped how that could occur.

another newbie

i`m a former jw from germany, learnt the truth at the age of 20, got babtized 3 years later, and left the wt (for various reasons) about 4 years ago.
so i just like to say a warm friendly "hello" to everyone.
