I drove 50 miles to an assembly in Woodland Hills, California. We were there 15 minutes early. The parking was so bad we that the entire lot was full. We were forced to park on the street. We literally could NOT find a spot on Ventura Blvd for at least 1/2 a mile. We just drove to breakfast, went shopping and stole an idiots parking spot that foolishly left for lunch.

assemblies; how times have changed
by Evidently Apostate inmy wife mentioned our circuit assembly was this weekend, she looked at me and i let out a chuckle and said "the kids are too sick right?
" (they weren't) but it was what she wanted to hear, an excuse from me to blow it off.
it got us thinking about how they were kind of tolerable when we were younger.. meals with ice cream, lots of volunteering to get you out of your seat.. there was more room at past assemblies.

Do You Blame Your Current Life's Issues Because You Were A JW?
by minimus indo you tend to blame your problems on the fact that you were a jehovah's witness?.

I did it 100% as it come upon me.....(talking about life)
I did my best as a JW, pioneered at 13 and stopped at 19. I went to the meetings, but dedicated my all to my job and my family thereafter...
NO REGRETS
Great career and Haphazzard meeting attender.
Life is good, I tell the elders that I am an EXPERT on why I won't let my 15 YO get baptized, I did it at 13.......lol

How is it that well educated and financially stable people become Jehovah's Witnesses?
by 21stcenturywoman inwhen i was growing up most of the jws around me were poor and lower middle class.
some were middle class, but very few were upper middle class.
only (maybe) about 1% were college educated.

I grew up in one of the worst neighborhoods in America......I now live in one of the 25 safest cities in America. Many (40-50%) of the people in the hall are college educated. People in the hall comment and pioneer, but it's almost amusing at times during the meeting. Most brothers own their own businesses, so many miss the meetings. I have learned that it is all a game.....

Unfortunately, they do not care if they lose intelligent people. It is merely a numbers game. When I stopped being active, there were around 3 million Dubs, now there are over 7 million people that are baptized?
Who cares about OUR complaints and issues, the organization is growing.....

I was asked to, but I said that I pioneered at 13 YO at 60 hours a month and I do NOT want to do it again. Somehow, I don't get asked anymore.

New Disfellowshipping Policy?
by Madmen ini heard the policy on disfellowshipping has changed, so that you cannot be disfellowshipped if you're not currently "fellowshipping".
does this apply if you're baptised, but haven't associated for over a decade and then choose to speak out in the media (specifically tv) in a way that the watchtower society would consider to be apostasy e.g.
questioning the society's function and/or the very existence of a creator?.

I was told by an elder that they were encouraged NOT to DF because so many do not come back. They have so many single women that really need d_$k, so the do it and shut hup policy is very effective.

I know that because so many are disfellowshipped, the "word on the street is" go out and have sex, tell the elders only and it's a freebie. If no one knows, u get privately reproved.
This has been going on for quite a while. If you admit to it more than once though, public reproff is a possibility. I know a hall where about 5 people were disfellowshipped in a 3 month period. Sex, sex and a little f+@#$ig!!

My life has been great, I make well over 6 figures without a college degree. My manager is the same age and makes TWICE what I make. My JW peers of course say that I am the materialistic one because I have always strived for more. I quit pioneering for my job 25 years ago. Through FB, my JW friends see my live daily. The materialistic tag still exist, but I will take it (with the money).
lol
College is essential in the world today. So sad to see the JW are still in the stone age. The mormons have the right idea regarding education.

Were you 'alive in '75' and how was that year for you?
by punkofnice ini was a junior borgite in 1975. i remeber looking at the calendar at work in october and thinking: 'armageddon isn't here yet.....and it doesn't feel like it will be here anytime soon either!'.
i was surprised that jehovah hadn't obeyed the superior command to bring the big 'a' as instructed to him by fred franz.
how dare god disobey the jw leader!!!!!.

I remember a sister that started pioneering in 1972 because of the emphasis on 1975. She is still single and active. I was only 8 years old. I was more eager for the 1976 Bicentinneal (sp) celebration.
I do recall telling others when I was pioneering about the people of 1914 almost being dead (in the late 1980's). This was the proof that I offer as a high school pioneer that the end was sooooooo close. In hindsight, it is sad that some still believe that the end is coming tomorrow. They chose poverty and no education as a result.
On a personal note; Ten years ago, On my Father's death bed, just before he went into a permenant coma for a month, he looked in my eyes and said, "This is the end!!!"
I think that is the end we are guaranteeded to all face.
