EVERYONE IS AGNOSTIC
by Flat_Accent insince we are born in ignorance, it's the starting point for each of our journeys even if many move away from it.
some return while others never do though even these remain 'agnostic' towards leprechauns and such.
eventually we end up in the same state of ambivalence and uncertainty as when we began.. the journey is what makes a life and if yours contains a positive or negative belief in anything that's fine - so long as it causes no harm.

There's a great site called the Church of the Apethetic Agnostic. I love their motto: "we don't know and we don't care".
Sorry screwed-up the hyperlink.

Will Embracing the Internet lead to Increased Growth for the Watchtower?
by jwfacts inmore important than the reduction in the size of the new magazine is that the watchtower will be actively promoting its website and encouraging people use it to download magazines.
my concern is that this has the potential to lead to an increase in growth for the watchtower.. the door-to-door preaching work has been one of the most inefficient means imaginable to gain converts, and done little more than tie up the time of active jws.
now, by directing people to the internet, witnesses can spread their message at an alarming rate for little cost.. do you feel that this has the potential to lead to a surge in growth of jehovah's witnesses?

I wish the Internet had been around when I felt the cold embrace of their tentacles I can tell you. Lol
It will probably work for those who are prepared to accept their message uncritically but for anyone with even a modest inclination to do some research I suspect it will be a big problem for them. Apropos the remark made earlier about google - once those already in are advised to make more use of the Internet who knows what they will dig up unless theY also produce some type of JWnetnanny.

Transubstantiation?
by leavingwt indoes anyone here accept the doctrine of transubstantiation?
if so, please elaborate.
theology: the changing of the elements of the bread and wine, when they are consecrated in the eucharist, into the body and blood of christ (a doctrine of the roman catholic church).

Millions of Catholics do something similar and claim that because its a really ancient belief and we are all supposed to respect it.
I'd certainly respect their right to hold the belief (no matter how illogical I think it is). The problems come when one tries to get others to believe the same thing, or argue it is rational to hold a particular belief. Then all bets are off as far as I can see. I sometimes get the impression that challenging beliefs is seen as something disrespectful - I can see that it could be done in a disrespectful way, but I can't see how such debates would be disrespectful in the own right (or should I say rite? ).
I guess some people look for perceived insults as a way to stifle proper debate.

Memorial Partakers guesses?
by AK - Jeff inthe last four years:.
with all the changes in the 'generation', 'sealing', doctines, etc.
- there have been unexpected [i imagine] jumps in this number.
-
GromitSK
If one uses a straightline forecast using the partakers starting in 2005 to the present the 2012 attendance will be ..........12399
I knew I'd find a use for integral calculus one day - now I can't remember how to do it

My thoughts on this years Special assembly day
by stillstuckcruz inopening comments: so this past weekend was out special assembly, so obviously supplied by jehovah.
we also had the "privelege" of having a gb representative at our assembly hall.
3/4 were young and my guess would be that those were born-ins.

It's staggering that after close to thirty years out, the programs sound just the same.

Would/Do you wear a Cross around your neck ??
by Prisca inafter all that we had drummed into us about not the cross, and particularly about not venerating the symbol itself, i have been wondering about this issue.. so, what are your views about wearing a cross around your neck ?
is it just a fashion accessory, or does it mean something to you ?.
inquiring minds would like to know

I should imagine it could be a bit heavy to carry around full stop.

instead of attending the t.m.s.

JWs Aren't Supposed To Give Blood Or Blood By Products To Their Pets
by minimus inin case of emergency or in their feeding.
yet if animals being given blood of any sort is so wrong, why do animals naturally eat other animals and consume their blood?.
jw's are so silly..

Question about the memorial :)
by TimothyT ini have no doubt that in a few weeks when the campaign to spread memorials invites is underway that my good friend, the jw, will give me an invitation.
she has already told me that she would support me when walking in, telling me that i could sit next to her and she wouldnt give a damn what others would think that she was encouraging a disfellowshipped person.
she is very sweet, and i appreciate her thoughts.. however, i would rather not go because i believe the whole thing is done wrong anyway.
