I consider the fact that the leaving the WTS made me reconsider my beliefs, one of the few advantages of having been a JW.

my first post and some questions
by wallievase inthis is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.
i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.
i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

New method to burglarize your car...
by Glander inthe crooks have come up with a scanner that reads your keychain remote locking code.
when you walk away from your car and lock the doors theives sitting nearby capture the code and can then unlock your car while you are shopping.. lock your car the old fashioned way, with the lock button before closing the door..

Why have an issue? Simply ask people who hold that view, why that's the case. :)
oh and welcome

Is it Ok to name a baby ' Messiah'?
by rip van winkle in.
a tennessee judge has ordered a baby boys name to be changed from messiah after deciding it is a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is jesus christ.. .
on sunday, jaleesa martin, the babys mother, told the station that she planned to appeal the decision.. i never intended on naming my son messiah because it means god and i didn't think a judge could make me change my baby's name because of her religious beliefs, she said.. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/08/12/19986524-baby-cant-be-named-messiah-judge-rules?lite.

How about kids called God, King or Prime Minister, or Devil? :)
Messiah is a title really, I've heard worse tho tbh.
or Superman - that's a great name.

I dread to think what its friends would shorten it to.
plus, I definitely think the mother lives in the right county.
I think the judge should leave her religious beliefs out of it though I kind of agree with her decision because of the trouble it may cause for the child. If a judge in the UK said something likethat they'd get a caning.

classification of Jehovahs Witness members by when they joined up
by besty injust got to thinking how long can the watchtower peddle the 'soon' story with any credibility?.
i would say there are the oldtimer or born ins in the 70+ age group - they possibly remember the 2nd world war, and maybe joined for 1975 or made life affecting decisions meaning they are so commited with 'nowhere else to go' that they have surrendered to the resurrection hope.. then you have the '1986 international year of peace, the 1914+70 year' generation crowd.
people in their 40s and 50s now.

Convert about 1982 age 19. Approached by converted friends. Religious at the time but hadn't really thought about why i was. Got me when I was very vulnerable and isolated and had no one to offer me a balance. Worst decision I ever made (so far). Conversion for me at least was by accepting it in chunks as opposed to one big swallow. At the time it wasn't as easy for me to find counter arguments as it is today, no one I knew knew much about them. Once I'd accepted enough and reached critical mass, almost any teaching made sense. I only came to see what a load of rubbish it is after I got the heave-ho.

@jeffro You don't have to pander to anything, why not simply ignore it if you don't like it? Just saying you're coming across to me as arrogant on this and to be frank quite rude. Simply repeating the fact that you don't like it and don't accept another person's view of their own experience isn't going to persuade anyone. You're not asking questions about it or anything - it's a rant.

Jeffro - you're entitled to your opinion of course however it comes across as somewhat high-handed to interpret the experiences of others, whom you do not even know, for them.
Plenty of people experience communications that they believe to be from dead people, angels or whatever - I am puzzled why you need to be so, frankly rude, and so certain that you know how the world works no matter what the experiences of others are. Noone is asking you to accept the experiences of others as 'truth' but in making remarks in the way you have it makes you come across as a bit arrogant really.
