I don't think Dinah was suggesting bonfires more like it would be a natural progression. Unless I am mistaken.

Utah would be handy - though it's none of my business as a Brit it does seem a long way west in the US and far away from me and there's plenty of space.

Of course you think you are right! Why bother to put your points forward if you don't think you are right unless you are playing devil's advocate and I don't think you are. I was talking about legal or illegal not right or wrong. Murder is the unlawful taking of life therefore abortion is not murder according to law. You may feel the law is wrong and that it is murder but the fact is that it isn't at the moment. So it's not murder - by the way talking down to me doesn't make you look smart it just sounds like you are ranting.
So we have agreed that abortion is legal. Murder is the unlawful taking of life therefore even if a foetus is a human life as you propose, taking it isn't murder. I agree that doesn't mean it is right. I presume you would agree that taking the life of a Doctor carrying out his lawful business is murder too?
Assuming the poll is accurate 51% is a simple majority I agree, let's assume that this has been the case for a long while too (although I don't know whether it has or not). It leaves a significant minority opinion. The law is not there simply to enforce the majority view though as I am sure you would agree particularly on such personal matters. To be more precise then - there is not a significant majority in favour of banning abortion. If there was it would happen. Why isn't there if it is so clear that it is wrong?
Whether a person believes that abortion is acceptable (at any point of development) is a moral decision at the moment. The law effectively allows people to make their own decisions on the matter. If people are religious their decision may be informed by that. If they aren't they may still take a moral view or they may not. Personally I think this is a sensible position unless you think a return to back-street abortions is acceptable.
Your analogy with Income Tax is an interesting one. If people don't like the levels of taxation they can replace politicians with those who advocate lower taxes. Sometimes they do just that. At the end of the day though the electorate know that taxes are necessary, it is simply a question of the level of taxation and how the money is spent. Not really the same issue it is?

My response was not emotional - simply pointing out a person is a hypocrite if they support murder when it suits them and are against it when it doesn't. The US government doesn't agree with you that abortion is murder. Therefore whoever is arguing that abortion is murder has not pursuaded the majority.
You are the one who is adopting an emotional position. You believe abortion is murder, most people don't but hey! you're the one who is right (apparently) and we should do what you want. If you are right pursuade the majority with the weight of your argument.
Murder is the unlawful taking of life. Where abortion is legal carrying it out within the law is not murder no matter what our personal beliefs are - unless that is, we should all be obeying the laws you decide govern us?
For the record I do not think that abortion is acceptable other than in an emergency. I would not seek to impose my view by force on other people though. That is a matter of personal choice for them and their conscience.

Actually keyser is right. If you believe murder is wrong, and that abortion is murder and therefore wrong too but it is permissible for you to murder someone then you are a hypocrite.
The way to stop abortion is to get your government to legislate against it. If this has been unsuccessful it is because the majority of people don't agree with you. You can try to pursuade them but to adopt violent methods in a democracy when one's argument fails is simply terrorism.

Spanish JW's Upset Over Bethel Move
by Gary1914 inon april 1, 2009 a letter was sent from the governing body of jehovahs witnesses to congregations in spain informing them that the printing, shipping, and storage of watchtower publications would be discontinued at the madrid branch office.
the letter expressed confidence that the spanish witnesses would, despite the move, continue to generously support the world wide work and ends with an appeal to remain united under the direction of the witness leadership.. at a glance, this story may seem like a non-issue, perhaps, just another example of reorganization and consolidation within a multinational corporation; however, the dissolution of the printing branch has caused considerable hard feelings among some of jehovahs witnesses in spain.
to understand the reason we must first look at the history behind the branch office and external factors that some feel prompted this abrupt move.. early in their history, jehovahs witnesses began printing their trademark watchtower magazines and associated books and tracts in-house at their bethel headquarters in brooklyn, new york.
