I worry about you all, regarding the promotion of "Steven Hassan's." book. Why?
by AvocadoJake indear brothers and sisters, .
i worry about you jumping on steven hassan's ideas which are not new, in fact, after reading a good chunk of his book today, nothing he has written is fresh and new to the psychology world.
so far, i have been cautious about revealing who or what schooling and background i have.

I don't see how the site is promoting Hassan's book. I can see that some members recommend it but that's not the site recommending it surely? The way I read it, some folks are impressed and think it is useful but I don't see anything wrong with that or any other recommendations made by members. Caveat emptor and all that

Those of us who left the WT for less than noble reasons
by Aussie Oz insometimes i feel like a second class apostate...not that anyone has ever said anything to make me feel that way, i just do, you know what i mean?.
i left the jws because i just couldn't fight my flesh anymore.
the battle inside was going to kill me literally.

"To thine own self be true" sounds pretty noble to me.
true.

Are there ex-jws who haven't read Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk?
by mutinyinheaven inevery ex-jw who has read my novel of a love story based in the jws is blown away.
there hasn't been one bad review, and it has been reviewed in the boston globe, san francisco chronicle, sf weekly, portland's weekly and daily newspaper and more.
publishers weekly gave it a starred rating and it's optioned for a film through hunting lane, the same producers who brought you blue valentine and half nelson.. it's available all over north america at indie bookstores, barnes & noble and more.. if you buy it off of me directly and don't like it, i will refund upon return of book minus shipping and paypal costs.. www.tonydushane.com.

I don't think giving real names and locations out on public boards is necessarily a good idea tbh. Whether it is because someone is a JW or not. If you want to take that step it's a personal choice. As for authors recommending their own books, perhaps it is better if others do that.

Maybe the question is one of principle rather than nobility. Some leave on principle, others drift away, some get kicked out (like me). When I was kicked out I still thought it was 'the truth'. It took quite a while for me to accept I wasn't about to be destroyed by bolts of lightning. In time, the biggest help to me was the Internet and places like this. So much information became so easily accessible. Although becoming a JW destroyed my career, I consider myself fortunate that I'd already had a good education and I got booted at an age where I could develop in a new direction.

What is the stupidest comment you ever heard at a meeting?
by 3rdgen ina very reliable friend told me this: the bro was commenting on what was "unacceptable" conduct in the bedroom between married persons.
needless to say, he had everyone's attention.
he went on to say "we must avoid perversions such as oral and annual sex.

I remember one guy in the TMS saying you had to "masturbate your spiritual food 32 times before swallowing it".

How did plants survive the Flood?
by dgp innoah is not said to have carried plants in his ark.
supposedly the flood was severe enough to cover "even the tallest mountains", which would mean that mount everest was covered.
and this for forty days.

Cultures besides the Hebrew one have a flood "myth" going to around the same time. Something happened.
All this proves is that primitive people in other places had also experienced floods.
...or just that they all come from a single much earlier story?

Last year I went to the wedding of an ex-JW friend. Her son is still in. I was kicked out 25 years ago and he was still heard to say to his wife "There is is a disfellowshipped person here" lol :) - I don't have any contact with any JW and haven't for years but this remark made me laugh out loud.
