5th Gen, I feel your pain, I really do. I have had the same thoughts, semi-suicidal thoughts, just last night because of feeling so trapped, and so lost, no matter what I do. I actually had a panic attack at the KH and went and sat in the car, even though I wanted to run. (I still go to keep peace in the fam, at least for now, slow changes happening). There's nothing worse than feeling helpless. I've been in therapy for the last year and it helps so much just being able to speak your thoughts out loud in a non-judgmental atmosphere. The point is, help is available. I feel so much better this morning. You will too, eventually. You will get through this, but don't try to do it alone.

Super serious question
by 5thGeneration inplease no sarcastic crap from mean members.. i had a family member kill herself over being raised by a c.o.
who told her that it ruined their life and that she was a mistake.. i have a 10 page report from a psychiatrist back, who was also a jw, in the eighties that is pretty incredible.. now, i was also born jw with a 100 year "truth" heritage to cause me the same guilt.. and it may be drivng me the same way.
i feel the same way my aunt felt.

My experience at the District Convention today - Appreciate your comments
by BonaFide ini know i am the one to constantly harp on this board how the organization has lost its "swagger" and the baptism and attendance is going down, and people are waking up.. not so fast.. the audience cried, i mean a lot of people cried when they played some of the songs from the new songbook.
some had bethel singers who sounded pretty good singing them.
so many after the program were saying how touched they were.. then the new release of the book showing how the book of acts prefigures the organization today.

Funny how everyone always says, "best assembly ever!" Every year, it's the same thing. "Best Assembly Ever!" Really? So in a century of DC's, this one tops the cake? Really? The fact is, memory is short and emotion is high. The last talk of the day ends on an emotional climax, followed by a stirring song sung, heartfelt, by thousands of people, many arm in arm. Like most of you, I've peered behind the curtain--and I still tear up!

Are Watchtower Writers Frauds or Morons?
by metatron ini have asked a salient question.
i will leave the answer to your judgement.. look, the may 1 watchtower on page 27 considers the question "did king hezekiah really build a tunnel into jerusalem?".
in their answer, the society replies, "the carbon - 14 tests we carried out on organic material within the plaster of the siloam tunnel, and uranium-thorium dating of stalactities found in the tunnel, date it conclusively to hezekiah's era.

According to the Insight book and a 1986 Awake article, C-14 dating is reliable for all dates SINCE the flood (2370 BCE or so). Supposedly the deluge changed the atmosphere so much, letting in a lot of extra radiation, etc., there's no way of knowing how much carbon was in the atmosphere prior to that event, so all C-14 dates purporting to be EARLIER than the flood are unreliable.
This flies in the face of all kinds of evidence, the biggest being that if there were such a sharp delineation between pre and post flood dating results, it would be easy to see and highly obvious to the scientific community. And, of course, this assumes there was a literal global flood, an occurrence for which there is ZERO evidence and, in fact, a boatload (no pun intended) of evidence to the contrary.

who is going to the convention this year?
by drew sagan inthe recent threads by pistoff got me thinking that some youtube vids of the hard line positions being taught from the platform would be pretty cool.
if you're already going, why not get us some documentation .
of course it might already be up on http://www.jwproclaimers.org/ for all i know.. it's a shame you don't know what conventions the gb is going to show up at because it really would be good to get those guys on tape no matter what..

Its usually a good reminder as to why I left (mentally, slowly physically). You know, positive reinforcement.

AGAIN with the college bashing
by Pistoff inok so the mate took good notes at the ca and here is the newest on "higher education:.
the usual bashing of motives: those who want great wealth, prestige and seek it in a college educationcollege graduates don't always get jobs in their fieldsdrugs, drinking and sex are "rampant" at collegesthose who want to "snatch us away" are near if we go to college (isa 54)if we seek a college education, we are not spiritual mindedthe most disturbing for me was this:.
those who choose college will not get blessings from jehovahand of course there was the obligatory interview with the college graduate who disdains the education whe received.. .

Words cannot express what this board has done for me...it's saved me from thinking that I'm going out of my mind or that I'm the only one in the universe who sees the intellectual dishonesty of this org for what it is. Simon, and everybody else who contributes such amazing and provocative and scholarly information, THANK YOU!

So, it happened. Packed my things and left
by aligot ripounsous insome may remember, i wrote on an other thread that elders forbade me to give comments at the wt meeting, as i weaken the brothers' faith.
i wasn't satisfied with this outcome and, 10 days ago i sat with my wife on the front part of the kh (like in many khs, attendants pack on the back seats), in the middle of the row, right in front of the wt elder, and raised my hand insistently.
i was of course openly ignored but i didn't care, all that i wanted was verybody to see how they deal with independent members.

2009 Drama Synopsis and Comments
by jabberwock inthis year's drama was based on the parable of the prodigal son.
the theme was "your brother was dead and came to life".
as some have probably heard, it is a modern day story based on that parable, so there are no fancy costumes or fake beards.. .

How old were the 2 sons? In particular, the one who moved out on his own? Interesting that these presumably grown men are encouraged to live at home, rather than the normal, healthy thing, which is to move out on your own. Was the sobbing mother properly dressed in an apron?
