A question for the faders on here

the other day our meeting was cancelled and we didn't even get a call from the elders to advise us.

i take that as a sign that our fade is working.

the next step i would like to implement is not turning in a field service report.

JW: I'm in the same boat, wondering the same thing.

Only problem is (and maybe some of the ex elders can help me out here) I'm an elder's wife. Yup, that's right. And my wonderful husband (and he is, really) is still going strong. I'm worried that if I officially go inactive, it'll have repercussions on his and honestly, I'd hate for that to happen. He has to come to the truth about the "truth" on his own, though I have been sharing eye-opening nuggets for him here and there. I've been turning in an hour or two for about a year now, haven't been out in service for about a year and am slowly fading on the meetings. Down to just Sundays. I'd like to stop altogether but, like I said, I don't want to rock his boat. He's been super good and reasonable with my new perspective and we have an excellent marriage all round.

he said the policy that jehovah's witnesses have on how to handle cases of child abuse is without equal in the religious community.

why keep these forms secret?.

to please my mum while she's alive and wife i go to meetings and the 3 day convention coming up.

i would rather go to the dentist.

It's a fine line to walk...I'm doing a slow fade and sometimes its fine and sometimes it's horrid. But the pain I'll be causing my family is horrid to think about...It's more about keeping one's mouth shut than being a hypocrite.

What do you know "without googling" about the reputed mechanisms for evolution?

i see people take positions all day long and i rather suspect both sides are woefully ignorant.. i read and hear people speak of the volumes of data pro or con and when i ask for specific examples of what each may be referring to, i am often met with silence.. .

Gubberning: What exactly are you looking for? Maybe you could be more specific as to what you want because I thought Inkling did a pretty good job of answering your question.

Inkling nicely stated three of the many forces that power evolution. Those forces work on the "raw material" of genetic mutation. And as Burntheships pointed out, there seems to be a predeliction in the universe toward complexity, not away from it. The evidence for evolution, which includes among other things transitional features, transition fossils, the record of change found in pseudogenes as well as observed speciation both in the wild and in the lab, is diverse, convergent and overwhelming.

Here's a simplified illustration of genetic drift: A group of people leave their home and sail to another land. They meet with disaster at sea and only half of the people make it to the new land. By coincidence, all the survivors happen to have blue eyes. Therefore, while the proportion of blue eyes relative to other colors was only 50% of the original group, it is now 100% of the surviving group and therefore 100% of the genetic stock that will reproduce at the new land. As Inkling said, it's basically how chance, unencumbered by fitness, sexual selection or other factors, can affect the genetic "raw material" of a given population and, hence, their offspring.

i was only 5 and my older and wiser brother was 8. what i can remember was the muted sense of excitement we both felt in 1977. shortly after elvis died my dad announced we were moving off the island back to the scottish mainland.

i didnt connect the death of elvis with our big move, and rightly so.

Hades and Tartarus in the NT. Pagan influences?

last night i was watching a program about greek mythology when the subject of hades and tartarus came up, hades referring to the greek god of death and tartarus referring to the place of the dead or what could be called hell.

i began to wonder why would the bible writers use such words if they were trying to avoid paganism and convey different ideas.

if hell were not a real place as witnesses say why would peter use tartarus, a word clearly known to be a place and not a condition of the dead.

i re-read it after someone posted to it and brought it back on active topics and it was kind of prophetic in a way ... well, i had the 5 years part right if nothing else:.

it would be nice to visit the site (or whatever one is around then) in 5 years time to let people know how we're doing and find only a few of the same people still around.
