I, for one, plan to check every reference very carefully. I think there are others here on this board who are in the process of doing that as well (?) It will be interesting to see what turns up. I know that on Circuit Overseer's video on "Using your Powers of Reason," he'd sent an email to one scientist quoted in the new brochure who denied saying what she was quoted as saying...

their invite to check the bibliography
by booby insince i spent a bit of time looking up this info i shamelessly copied from another thread for a new post here to get thoughts on how goofy their bibliography is.
how many jw's would take the time, if they even take the time to read the brochure, to check out these references in the bibliography.. how fast can a cell reproduce?
on page 11 includes reference 16 to bibliography.. that book can be found here http://www.scribd.com/doc/26545498/brain-matters-translating-research-into-classroom-practice.

Australian brothers VERY negative comments regarding new "generations" ... some leaving Bethel..will this blow up in the Watchtowers face?
by Witness 007 ina brother i spoke with from bethel to me seemed discouraged and lacking zeal latley...he spoke of leaving which shocked me since he was there for decades...he left to get a full time job!!!
it was his whole reason for living since i've known him!
others have said the new doctrine of "blended generations" of anionted seeing armagedon is "confusing" or "i just don't get it"...one brother my only close friend is furious and said i qoute..."they seem to be blowing smoke up our ass!

They have too much invested
Bingo! That's it exactly, exactly what I'm seeing in my own relatives. It truly is a matter of "Where else can we go?" Sadly, they have given everything to this organization and would literally lose it all if they left. It's especially true for born-ins with the entire extended family all super-zealous. Damn.

dad was an elder, grandad was a po, etc.. left home after being df'd..........ran away....never to return....had a hard time learning how the " world" really was.. anyways......just glad to see this board is still around........just wanted to extend myself to anyone who needs to talk about abuse or the difficulty of "getting out".

Day 1 of the convention
by NiceDream inhere's a brief recount of things that stood out to me this year upon my awakening...probably old hat for most of you.
the first experience i heard was from a sister who was afraid to speak to her fleshly sisters about "the truth" and her conscience was really bothered.
she felt horrible that they were going to die unless she shared the "truth" with them.

I thought it was interesting about checking out the quotes too. I guess they're confident people will just be happy knowing they are there and not look them up. And if they do look them up and find they aren't in context, then they aren't "humble," because we're not supposed to question things.
You got it! It's the perfect scenario. "Humble" ones "trust" the organization--if you take them up on their invitation and discover that the quotes don't function in context quite as they're presented in the brochure, why then, that just proves you're not humble! I've heard from other sources that the speakers are encouraging readers to "check" the quotes in the bibliography--I'm guessing the criticisms about the Creation book were finally heard by someone higher up. It will be interesting to see whether the Society learned its lesson. The "Use Your Power of Reason" youtube video by Circuit Overseer mentions at least one misquote...

There's not even enough parking for the dubs, let alone for any visitors that would get towed.
Ha! Billy, you hit the nail on the head--the DA my relatives are going to is in such a congested area that the Society has hired dozens of buses to take all the attendee congregations and everyone has been told NOT to drive b/c there's NO parking, except for very limited nearby paid parking that you have to ARRANGE IN ADVANCE. But there they go anyway, handing out the invites door to door, like crazy.
I asked them what would happen when all of these householders, motivated by holy spirit, accept the invitation and attend--where the hell would they park, since as worldly people they don't have access to the Society buses nor would they be able to arrange the alternative parking in advance? My relatives just shrugged their shoulders and said, "Oh, well, we don't really expect anyone to actually come (based onthe invitations)."
I was speechless.

[LONG] Making a plan to leave... I have no friends :'(
by confliction inthe title pretty much explains it all... i don't want to go too much into my story (for paranoid fear of identification), but i have been raised in the "truth", and got baptized at a young age- too young to truly understand what i was getting into.
i still live with my parents, and as such don't want to make a move just yet, as it would destroy virtually everything i have left.
as of now though, i see myself leaning towards agnosticism.. here's my short sob story.

Hi, confliction and welcome! Because of your age and circumstances, I think the slow fade is the best option for now. The good news is that you're young, you've got your whole life ahead of you and you don't have a JW spouse and children to deal with. Believe me, theocratic parents are hard but a spouse and children whom you love dearly are harder, simply because it's natural to make a break from your parents (move out, etc.) and not so much from your husband/wife.
So, the slow fade. You can do it, especially if your parents accept that you're depressed. That's a legit reason to skip the occasional meeting, to slow down in fs, etc. One of the most important things to do right now is to prepare for your future. One of the other posters suggested pulling up your grades so as to qualify for a scholarship to college. If you can swing moving away to college, your fade is in the bag. If not, saving $$, as you mentioned already, to move out and preferably away, to a different locale, will make things oh, so much easier. Remember, this is your life. It's the only one you get and you'd damn well better make it exactly the way you want it. That sounded dreadfully selfish, but I didn't mean it that way. Doing things for others, helping make the world a better place, giving $$ to charity, that's all part of happiness. But it's your choice, that's my point.
Keep reading--we've had other posters in very similar age/circumstances. And please keep us informed!

I started taking control of my life
by loosie in5 years ago when i attended my last meeting.
ever since i started making decisions, instead of waiting on jehovah, things have been happening faster for me, its weird.. all my life i was told just wait on jehovah, wait on him for a husband, wait on him for children, wait on him for a happy life.. well you know what i stopped waiting and i am happy!!!!.
yes i did get a wonderful husband (who adores my every move) while in the org.

You Go, Girl!!!!!
Yup, it's amazing, isn't it? Congratulations on going back to college at the ripe young age of 40!!! I did, too, and I just finished my second year of grad school--took me 3 years to get my BA and it will be 2 to get my Master's and it's been worth every minute. Don't look back--you are in control and, what's best, you're setting an awesome example for your child!
