wondering if anyone has seen it yet, and what the general consensus was around here.
i saw it a week ago this coming monday, overall i liked it, and didnt really see what the controvesy was, thought that the aramaic w/ english subtitles was a nice touch, cinematography was great, watching mary's griefmoved me a whole lot more than watching jesus get tortured, satan rocked visually, i especially enjoyed the fact that he was portrayed by a female, [that was not a comment to instigate the femenists on the board] though he had one too many hollywood moments, i really like the fact that jesus actually came across as arrogant, not the weakling he is always portrayed as during the easter season, he actually had some nads, and had something to say, that was cool, made him a lot more real in my eyes, after walking out of the theater though, i could only keep thinking to myself this was such a tragedy in the likes of homer, a hero bound for disaster, a legend told through the centuries, much like king arthur became a legend based on the events of a real man, im thinking the same must have happened with him, 80 flogs with bamboo into it i was thinking endorphines and adrenaline, yet it kept going into a second round, how he was able to walk after that and carry a cross, seemed a bit ludicrous, comments??

after reading megadudes review of what he thought of the movie, i really want to see it now.. gore doesn't really bother me in movies, like braveheart, saving private ryan etc.
i hate the slasher movies for the sake of gore thou.. i guess i am the type of person that is so curious about everything, that even if it is gorey, i would want to know what jesus went thru, as painful as it may be to watch.. but should you let your children see it........ since i havent seen it , i was wondering for those who have seen it,,,,,,,,would you let your kids see it?.
what age,,do you think is appropriate ?
Well it's been given an 18 rating by the BBFC.
So no kids will get to see it, at least not until it's on video/dvd.

I suppose it helps if you've seen the trailers for both The Passion and Kill Bill.
Are graphic depictions of flogging and impaling ok if the name of man is Jesus? Of course if Tarrantino did the same thing he would have been lamblasted by christian groups for glorifying violence.

Portugal abortion women cleared A Portuguese court has acquitted seven women accused of having abortions. The doctor who allegedly carried out the abortions, and nine "accomplices" including the husbands and boyfriends of the women, were also cleared.
The case reignited a familiar debate in the Roman Catholic country, where abortion is outlawed except in cases of rape or serious foetal disability.
Pro-abortion activists are lobbying for a referendum on abortion. A referendum in 1998 was narrowly defeated.
The seven women were all accused of voluntarily undergoing abortions at the high-street clinic of a doctor in the fishing town of Aveiro, some 250km (155 miles) north of Lisbon.
The final verdict found proof that the doctor had carried out abortions, but no proof that the accused women had undergone the procedure.
This is a historic decision
Odete Santos
Communist lawmaker Despite being acquitted, said Judge Paulo Teixeira, the doctor would be penalised by having his car, medical instruments and some money obtained through his illicit behaviour seized by the state.Had they been found guilty, the women could have faced jail terms of up to three years and the doctor up to eight years.
About 500 pro-abortion demonstrators clapped and celebrated outside the courtroom in Aveiro as they heard the news of the acquittals.
"This is a historic decision," communist member of parliament Odete Santos said, according to news agency AFP.
"It is an exemplary decision. I am very satisfied."
Petition
No jail terms had been sought for the nine alleged accomplices: parents or partners of the women who were accused of accompanying them to the clinic, the doctor's sister and two of the clinic's employees.
However, it was the first time anyone has been charged as an accomplice under Portugal's abortion laws.
Abortion has been illegal in Portugal for over 100 years, but the law in its current state goes back 20 years to 1984, when abortion was permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Five women died and some 11,000 women required hospital treatment after clandestine abortions last year, according to health ministry figures.
Last month, anti-abortion campaigners submitted a petition they claimed contained 121,000 signatures to the Portuguese parliament, demanding it debate holding another national referendum on abortion.
The 1998 referendum was defeated by 51% to 49%.

a couple of childhood friends of mine, henry caban and alberto caban, both bethelites at one time, were said to be going to law school compliments of the wtbts.
is it true that they put some 'cream of the crop' bethelites through college depending on what field the society needs?
i can't believe it?!!!
Naturally, most on this board will agree with you...but a "good" JW can easily explain that away. Sure, it's OK to go to college, as long as you are going to use your skills in full-time service to Jah just as these Lawyers are doing. Actually where I live, people don't have a problem with JWs going to college like they use to and it seems to be quite acceptable.
A good comeback to that would be "i didn't realise full time service also included trying to silence JW abuse survivors then?"

i'm all for treating animals humanely but if this is what happens to your judgement when you cut all meat out of your diet, then i'mgoing out for a burger.

PETA's impotence ad a no-no with CBS Animal rights group says network rejects $2M to air its meat/impotence ad during Super Bowl. January 15, 2004: 3:51 PM EST by Parija Bhatnagar, CNN/Money Staff WriterNEW YORK (CNN/Money) - This is PETA's Super Bowl ad pitch to CBS: Two scantily clad women try to seduce a pizza man but discover that he can't deliver "the goods". CBS rejected the ad. PETA says the network isn't playing fair.
Michael McGraw, spokesman for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), said the group used the provocative subject matter to make the point that eating meat causes impotence.
You kind of figure that out toward the end of the 30-second commercial when the two women express their happiness with a "vegetarian" delivery boy.
CBS turned down the hefty $2 million that the group was willing to pay the network to have the commercial aired during its Super Bowl XXVIII broadcast on Feb. 1.
CBS spokesman Dana McClintock said the network rejected the ad because of its "general policy against airing advocacy advertisements.
PETA argues that's not true, pointing out that CBS had aired an anti-smoking commercial from Truth.com during the Super Bowl.
"CBS has no problem with airing commercial after commercial advocating the consumption of fried chicken, pork sausage and fast-food burgers, even though eating these products are making Americans fat, sick and boring in bed," PETA spokeswoman Lisa Lange wrote in an e-mail to CNN/Money.
"Our ad has all three of advertising's most popular elements -- sex, humor, and animals --so the network should jump on it." she said.
