  is mothers day (& fathers day) celebrated by the jw's?

  if it is not, can you provide a scriptural reason for the decision.

  I've always found it weird that birthdays are a no-no but anniversarys are fine.

  Aren't they the same thing?

  Buying gifts and celebrating the 'life' of their marriage?

  as a mystical christian, i am just as distressed about child molestation as is mr bowen.

  however i wonder about this man's motives.

  why did he choose to handle his row with the witness organization in this way?

  2 insane comments lately at the Kingdom Hall...

  yes, i've been going to the meeting lately (only) to hear my da announcement (still hasn't been announced..been over a month) and pick up some mags (another story!

  )(see "org crack down on..." post).

  well heres two comments made by speakers from the platform that i noticed that sorta stuck out.. firstly, about a month ago this ms was doing a talk on proverbs in the tms and during the talk we had to look up 4 scriptures in a row from the bible and the ms said (the way i heard it he said it sarcastically) "it's great to be finally using the bible!".

  At last weeks Book study I noticed something odd. About half-way through it mentions about getting rid of sin and death. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but neither scripture cited mentions sin, only death.

  I wouldn't have seen it if I'd not be reading this board.

  The Day of Armageddon In our life time

  do anybody else believe that the messiah will return in our life time?

  cause we all know that "peace & safety" is the last sign.. and i already mention that it's on a very low scale, it's come but has'nt passed yet(when billions believe everything is safe)... .

  i believe it will come in my life time, i'm only 20 years old and i damn sure aint going to die... luke- 21-36 < is the way that you can survive up to the day of christ day....what y'all think?

  Hi,

  I vaguely remember when this was announced at my kingdumb hall over here in the UK. I was probably in my early teens and I don't recall them mentioning the real reason for the change. I just remember a lot of guff about becoming a charity or something. I did find this a little odd but thought no more about it. Funny how you find out the real reason for things years later.

  Hey how about a billboard campaign? Nice advertisements for the Dateline program in prominent positions near the stadium etc? :)

  Of course the WT will now buy up every one of those billboards for the next 1000 years. ;)

  Will silentlambs Be DF???

  well now we have it, what appears to be the pre-emptive strike from wt.. as of this friday three families who appeared on the dateline program have been informed judicial committees have been setup with a one week notice and it is alleged that they have been causing "divisions" within the organization.

  i got my letter today, barbara anderson got hers yesterday and the other family earlier this week.. if you were a pr firm would you think it to be a good idea or a bad idea to df everyone a couple of weeks before the dateline program airs?

  what do you think the american public will think of such a move?.

  fifty feet away was a busy entrance to a ralph's supermarket, but they chose to stand in front of empty store fronts.

  "Shepherding Calls"

  how often are these elders supposed to come visit anyway?

  it's been a long while since we had any elder come to our house... sure, we had some "brothers and sisters" come by to either use the bathroom while in the service or just say hi, but an elder?

  it's been at least a year.. are these guys getting lazy?

  Hmmm, it's our C.O visit this week. Wonder if I'll be receiving a visit soon.

  The last shepherding call I received I was offered a study. I accepted (I hadn't come across this site before then). In passing he asked how I was and I told him about my current medical problem. No matter what I said he kept commenting on how when you're depressed these things can happen. I'm like "what are you talking about?", I had had an MRI scan confirm that I'd had a small stroke a few months earlier but he was just convinced that I was depressed. I cancelled the study a couple of weeks later stating that I didn't think it was helping me.

  Makes you wonder whether they actually listen.
