Time demands of the Jehovah's Witness religion compared with other religions?
by stapler99 ini've been wondering how other religions, such as other christian denominations, would compare to the jw's in their time demands.. .
i'll lay out the approximate hours per week below.
(i know some of the meeting lengths have changed in recent years, and the bookstudy has been abolished.

TTWSYF I went to a Catholic Mass and was amazed at how much they actually DO use the bible and pray! The thing that really clicked with me was that the JW's say that when you go to a meeting, you're always learning something and they don't say the same thing over and over. Then how is it that during a public talk, I could predict with precision which scripture they were going to read to support their points? Because that's the one they ALWAYS use for that point. It's always the same scriptures, the same talks, the same everything. Over and over.
I snuck a look at the public talk binder last week. I was looking at the contents and I recognized every single talk title in it. I've heard them all during my "career" as a JW. So they wouldn't be telling me anything I don't already know lol. The fact that they have a binder that contains speech outlines and the speaker isn't really allowed to add very much to it, if at all, speaks volumes. They DO say the same things over and over. There's no question!
As for time spent as a JW, I will give my mom as an example:
Sunday~ 2 hour meeting. Get there early cause dad is a MS. Hang around and talk after. Add on about 40 minutes round trip travel time = 3 hours 30 minutes.
Monday~ Study for Tuesday...this can take all day, honestly. I've seen her study for 4 hours for the Congregation Bookstudy, TMS, and Service Meeting. Heaven forbid if she has a talk! So I'll average it at 3 hours.
Tuesday~ Service for about 4 hours. Meeting times same as Sunday, except they go out with the friends after, so tack on another 2 hours. That makes 9 hours, 30 minutes.
Wednesday~ Service all freaking day. 7am to 8 pm. 13 hours.
Thursday~ Study all morning for a study that afternoon. 3 hours. Afternoon service, about 3 hours. 6 hours total.
Friday~ Service all freaking day. 7am to 4pm. 9 hours.
Saturday~ Service in the morning, 4 hours.
She averages 48 hours a week doing JW stuff... that's 2 whole days! That's not even factoring in her informal witnessing, calling other JW's or potential studies, etc. 48 freakin' hours.

JWs who do a "disappearing act" because of damaging gossip and trouble in the hall
by LongHairGal ini know of a few jw friends who from time to time have to do a disappearing act from their hall.
one jw finds a "reason" to leave town to visit relatives and another jw would go to "visit" another hall in a nearby vicinity.
in all honesty, they are fleeing from the strife in the kingdom hall when they are in the spotlight.

You should probably talk to the director of marketing as I'm just a bystandard that was picked up along the way.
Ah, so you're admitting you have a double standard, then? Doesn't the WT Society strongly warn against coming to "apostate websites"? Indeed, perhaps you should check out the July 15th 2011 study edition of the Watchtower. There's lots of strong scriptural admonition about avoiding us "mentally diseased" ones.

The Great Day of Jehovah - the War to End All Wars
by sabastious infor most of my life i was taught that everything we experience in our lives is a build up to the great day of jehovah: armageddon.
i was informed, regularly, that this war would be when jehovah finally gets his vengeance from his advasary the devil.
as jehovah's witnesses were were taught that war is the solution, so long as the kingdom set up afterwards is eternally prosperous.

Great observation! I, too, always wondered "What if another question of sovereignty is raised? All the new babies born who grow up will not even KNOW about the "Old System of Things", it will all just be hearsay...so what happens if one of the angels rebels? Or one of the 144,000? They are reported to rebel or "fall away" when they are in the flesh as humans, so what of when they are in heaven? What if that happens? Then what? Is the world pitched back into the darkness it came from? Do all of us "perfect" humans have to go through it all again? Then I realized it was all horse shit anyway lol

Oh the rumor mill is always grinding away... For instance, there is an elder in a local congregation whose wife cheated on him twice, once with another brother, and once with a worldling. The first time, he forgave her but she was DF'ed. The second time, he kicked her to the curb and she was again DF'ed. She's still with the guy she cheated with, had a baby with him, etc. She was at the assembly (so I was told) with her baby and her "new" man because her son begged her to come see him get baptized (he's like...11). The shit that my parents spewed about her when they came home made me absolutely SICK. They called her a "skank", a "whore", a "slut"... My father seems to think she was making advances at ALL the brothers in the hall when she was in. I think ONE person said he saw her flirting with someone, and all of a sudden, that makes her a total prostitute and she must have been screwing or trying to screw ALL the brothers. The crap that's floating around about her is ridiculous...and most of it perpetuated by her own ex, who is STILL an elder in good standing. I've heard him call her house "the landfill", "the garbage dump", etc because he considers her to be trash. And he says that stuff in front of her kids!
My own ex has perpetuated lies and rumors about me back in the states we were from because he never actually put a stop to them when he got wind of them. He knew something to be untrue, yet he just passively ignored it instead of telling the person they actually had it wrong. His mother is GUILTY of spreading rumors and gossip about me. One of my old congos thought I was disfellowshipped because someone from there went to a convention where my ex lives and saw him with my kids and his new wife! So I just HAD to be DF'ed, right? They spread the rumor that I was and an entire congregation (and then some) believed it. It took my dad going up there and talking to one of the elders and his wife and telling them I am, in fact, NOT disfellowshipped and they need to set everyone else straight. Rumors about me have spread over entire CONTINENTS because of my ex and his family.

can long distant relationships last?
by varian innow i met this nice woman on the net.
its a six hour cardrive away.
due to my employment, there is no way i could give up my position and just move to her.

His most practical advice was to get a good long distance phone plan. We talked so much...
I agree completely! Mine is unlimited everything and thank goodness it is!! We easily trade 2000 texts a month and talk for way more than any regular plan would allow lol.
