This convention blows
by Anony Mous inseriously, half day in (already had an argument with the wife this morning about individuality in the organization in which she conceded that a lot of it is based on looks) and this is already getting on my nerves.
i'll post a rebuttal based on my annotations later in the week but one thing i got to get off my mind: saying the feminist movement (women going to work instead of staying home) and the diversity laws (allowing for homosexuality - but also religious freedom, racial discrimination etc.
) caused a lot of the problems in our world right from the stage.. there are less people here than last year - about 500 less..

It's worked for me so far. I didn't go to an actual dating website, but I just started chatting on a social site and posted on the message boards. My bf posted something, I commented on it and agreed with him and made some other points. He liked the way I think, so he sent me a friend request. That day, we chatted the whole day (we both were on vacation from work). The next day, he asked if he could text me. We became really good friends, started developing feelings for each other, and really took it slow. But we hit it off, fell in love, and aside from my kids, he is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love him dearly and didn't know this level of happiness and satisfaction was possible. So, when someone asks if finding love online is possible, I'm living proof that it is. Of course, I've met some real assholes, users, and the like. But I think that it all prepared me for the right guy. I appreciate him so much more because I know what else is out there. And he feels the same way.

We have Xbox 360 hooked up to a 60-inch flat screen TV... I'd go for a game console with internet capability like the XBox, the PS3, or the Wii. I'd prefer the PS3 since it already has Blu-Ray, but my bf already had the 360.
Netflix is friggin' awesome, though lol. Totally worth it, even if you just get the one-disc-out-at-a-time option...some movies aren't available in streaming, so it's nice to have the option to get it mailed.

Kinda sounds to me like the JW's themselves... "Well, brothers and sisters, this may just be our last convention before Armageddon..." I've heard them actually announce that over the platform at the conventions.

Which is why I don't believe in any "god" the Watchtower or any Christian religion claims to espouse. A god that hates people for being who they are when they are born. Yeah. That's a god I want to serve...NOT.

Noncommittal Prayers
by Lore inanyone else notice the growing trend towards prayers among witnesses to not actually ask for anything specific in prayers.. .
phrases like: "please help my husband get home from work safely today".
have changed to: "please be with my husband today".

From what I gather, JW's don't believe in modern miracles. Any miracles performed today are from Satan, not Jehovah. Praying for a miracle is praying for something you KNOW isn't going to happen.
Praying for help, praying in a general manner for Jehovah to "be with" someone, is basically saying "Whatever your will is in this situation, let it happen". Everything you ask for in prayer, according to JW's, will be answered IF it is in harmony with "Jehovah's Will".
And of course, this flies in the face of Jesus' teaching that anything you ask of god you will be given.

I think the other states need to get with the times. Up until 1967, interracial marriage was still illegal in some states. Now, I know a lot of interracial couples who are married. The same needs to happen with gay couples.
What I don't get is that they aren't hurting anyone, they aren't ruining the sanctity of marriage (that idea is total bullshit because we straight people did that all on our own), they are just trying to have the same rights that everyone else has because they are HUMAN and in LOVE. There's so much more to it than just the marriage itself and the state of being married. It's legal rights to have a say medically in their partner's health care, it's tax issues, etc.
There's no reason they should still be getting treated like second-class citizens.

When did baptism turn into a wet T shirt contest?
by highdose inat what point did they require people to don a white t shirt?
because lets face it as everyone knows... white t shirts become see-through when wet..... so if they are going for the argument that it protects modesty then thats rubbish, why not insist on a black t shirt that would really do the job?.
instead people get baptised and as soon as they come up from the water whatever they were wearing underneath is there for all to see.. .

The KM's have said, as far as I can remember, "a modest bathing suit". Now, that's the written rule. We all know there are the cultural rules of the JW's as well. So wearing a t-shirt (I've seen all colors, not just white, though the men tend to wear white more often than the women...so you get to see their man-teats lol) in my estimation, is a cultural rule. For example, you won't see a rule in a Watchtower that states that you can't wear a colored shirt on an assembly part. But culturally, it's looked down on (and perhaps there was a letter sent to elders as well, I don't know. I've never seen it in print for public consumption, though).
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's the general feeling you get from a group that makes you conform. If you see everyone doing something a certain way, then you try to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of being pointed out as different and "not on the same page". Especially if you are a new convert! So, if everyone is wearing a t-shirt, then by golly, you're going to wear one too!

I just tossed all my WT horsecrap a few weeks ago. I didn't offer it to my parents, I didn't say "Well, maybe I might need this for research..." It's garbage, plain and simple, and in the garbage bin is where it belongs with all the other refuse.
The only thing I think I may have done with it, if I hadn't chucked it, was sell them on ebay and donate the profits to victims of the prolific sexual abuse that goes on in this cult.
