  Speaking of ties...

  I witnessed an Elderette counselling a Ministerial Servant about HIS ties! Like undercover, this brother liked to wear interesting ties with cartoon characters, animals, etc. Nothing offensive, just cute and interesting.

  This sister had the OVARIES to counsel him in front of a bunch of people and tell him "You know, you really shouldn't be wearing those on stage. It brings reproach on Jehovah and makes a mockery out of the spiritual food that we're being given". But yet...her family and their huge house and brand new expensive cars that they could barely afford DIDN'T? Completely doing the opposite of "keeping your eye simple" isn't making a mockery of the "spiritual food" and bringing reproach according to their beliefs??

  Pardon me, Sister Stick-Up-Your-Ass, you have a rafter in your eye... Fucking moron.

  Incredibly, later on I had some choice words about this elderette because she's friggin' nosy and uppity and likes to counsel everyone else and acts like she farts rainbows and glitter... My own mother YELLED at me and said "Don't you talk about MY SISTER like that!"... Yeah... your "sister" who treated you like a leper until your husband converted. Yeah, that's someone to defend...

  Agreed with OUTLAW... A JW spouse (or ex spouse) can stretch and twist the truth, even going so far as to make things up, especially when it comes to child custody. Don't believe me? Check out the Preparing for Child Custody Cases packet that is given to JW parents going through divorce with an UBM.

  Several JW parents have accused the UBM of "abuse" of the children, which the courts are obliged to investigate. Several have also lost custody or contact with their children because of this. JW parents are encouraged to practice Theocratic Warfare in order to make SURE they get custody and their children are raised as JW's...breeding more for the ranks.

  now that my eyes have been completely open to the total falsehood of the jw's i just cant sit thru another meeting and hear some of the most craziest statements without an absolutely crazy look on my face... so to spite my mother who hates that i dont listen to anything they have to say from the podium, i took notes.....haha notes of all the insane staments i heard.

  I have a mind to make a list of every negative world event SINCE 1914, and then another of the positive...and compare. I'd be willing to bet that more GOOD has happened than bad...it's just that the bad is always more newsworthy.

  been to the kh once, at about 3 years old, for a relative's funeral.

  lately, my 10 year old and her bff are talking on the phone alot.

  That's so sweet! And so true...those of us born-in were discouraged from taking up a cause...because Jehovah was going to take care of it all "soon".

  There was a sister I knew years ago who would donate to different causes...when the elders got wind of this, she was counselled to put her money into "Theocratic" things, not "the things of The World" because Jehovah would fix it.

  She tapered off going to meetings after that...

  when i was little (before jwism) we celebrated christmas.

  my parents got the "truth" then we no longer celebrated it.

  we used to get together with family and friends and it was great!

  I was lucky in that I have a worldy BF who grew up with some MAJOR Christmases lol. His grandmother would get a huge fresh tree every year and hang 300 (yes, you read that right...three HUNDRED) ornaments, as well as lights. So...my man knows how to do Christmas lol.

  Our first tree together is a 6.5ft tall white faux Concord Fir. He has a 6ft green Aspen in the closet, but it was the tree he used with his ex-wife, so he doesn't want to use it. We used the mini multi-colored LEDs...2 strands of 150 each. I didn't want a pre-lit tree, even though it was the same price...Firstly because hanging the lights is a part of the whole Christmas experience, and secondly because if any blow out, it's going to be a pain in the ass to get them re-strung! We also put up about 50 medium-sized ornaments, and an LED silver star on top, as well as a silver glittery tree skirt.

  We will be having a few ornaments specially made/personalized next week. One for his mom, who passed 4 years ago right before Christmas, one for us for our first Christmas together, and one for all of our kids with their names on it and the year. We will get new ones for the kids every year, and a new ornament for us every year. Those will be our traditions.

  I didn't want a fresh tree because I really don't have the time to be vacuuming all the time. Not just that, but we can't have the risk of fire if it dries out. It's really more of a laziness factor, combined with a safety hazard lol.

  I think, no matter if you have an ostentatious tree that screams "HEY!!! It's CHRISTMAS OVER HERE!!!" or a Charlie Brown Christmas tree...if it's your first, it will mean something to you for the rest of your life. I look at mine and, although it's probably nothing compared to someone "experienced", it's mine and my BF's...it's something I can remember for all the years to come. My first Christmas being free from the cult. What matters is that I have gotten past my fears and pre-conceived notions and actually DID IT.

  Put up my first one this year as well! It's sooooo pretty! BF and I put it together (got a fakey tree), put the lights on together, and he let me put on the ornaments and the star. We get a lot of compliments on how pretty it looks

  Since Leaving the JW's - Have you Changed your Medical Contact Person ?

  in case of a really serious medical emergency- it's something to seriously consider.

  otherwise former aquaintances like jw elders in your former congregations or allegedly well meaning jw relatives who may have been listed by you as your emergency contacts might try running interference regarding the medical treatment you receive !

  i finally changed my emergency medical contacts a few years ago legally to my non-witness wife, my non-witness mother in law, and my non-witness adult son.

  Thanks for the reminder, flipper. I actually have to do this. My emergency contact for work is my boyfriend, but as for medical stuff, I have to change my information. I mean, I live in a different part of the country now, so chances are it would be him and friends who made the decisions anyway, I just want to make sure NO ONE ELSE has the power to come in and all of a sudden say "Well, we're her family".

  It is SO depressing when you just can't get through to someone

  i have been hitting a brick wall trying to pry my boyfriend away from this stuff.

  it just makes me cry that it's so obvious to me how wrong it is, and he's not even batting an eyelash.

  he knows about all of the scandals, all of the false prophecies, the coverup of sexual predators, that elders tell abuse victims to stay with their spouses, that they dishonestly use sources, and he just doesn't care.

  I was a virgin when I married my JW ex. Like zid said...BIG mistake. And we HAD fooled around some beforehand. Not encouraging you to go against what you feel is right for you, but a lot of people have bad experiences with waiting. ESPECIALLY when it's a JW they are waiting for! I'm sure one of our other friends here can repost some Watchtower articles about sex WITHIN marriage and what specifially ISN'T allowed. JW's are the most prudish people when it comes to sex. Even my ex, who "fooled around" with me before marriage, was a clamped shut prude after marriage. The most adventurous thing we did was change positions .

  Seeing as your BF isn't baptized, but is still mentally enslaved to the illusion that the JWs are the only religion doing the right things...there are a few things you can use as examples.

  ~ On Thanksgiving and Christmas, JW's go out and knock on people's doors trying to convert them to their religion. Whereas Christian churches provide food and shelter to those less fortunate.

  ~ Churches engage in volunteer work, collections of coats, toys, clothing, and food for the poor. JW's...hand out magazines for a donation.

  ~ Some churches do pass a collection plate in case someone wants to donate... JW's give local needs talks about giving more, they pad their expenses for putting on assemblies and conventions, and they install credit card machines so the JW's can put a donation on credit, even if they can't afford it. Announcements are made at meetings and assemblies about how much everything costs and how much they got...and people are encouraged to give MORE to make up for the so-called "deficit".

  As for the preaching aspect...Is he aware of the different ministries being done by different Christian churches? Preaching doesn't necessarily mean they would be going house-to-house.

  TimKilgore has some great youtube videos...in particular, these 2 that discuss the Jehovah's Witnesses' belief that Jesus commanded them to go from house-to-house. This is a debate between Tim and a JW, and Tim proves his point very well.
