My demon experience

one recent afternoon, me and a buddy were taking a trek around a nearby neighborhood and made our way past a delapidated house that had all the familiar symptoms of being haunted.

he suggested we check it out so, of course, we did.

it looked like it had been abandoned probably 30-40 years earlier but the previous owners had left behind a small coffee table.

I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I've been trying to come up with a way to convince my BF that what he's seeing in his sleep are not demons out to get him. I'm going to relate his experience from a few weeks ago.

He was in bed beside me fast asleep and all of a sudden, he just started shaking and moaning. This happens a lot...he gets nightmares. I always wake him up when it doesn't seem like he can wake himself.

Anyway, he woke up with a start and was panting...very afraid! Then he got up and started rifling through the closet, turning lights on, just really freaked out. So I asked him what was happening. He said "You didn't see them??". I said "Who?".

It was then that he told me that he had walked into the bedroom from the kitchen and saw himself lying in bed next to me sleeping...and that these 8-foot-tall black shadowy creatures were hovering over him. He said he was standing there yelling at them to get away from his body, but they wouldn't leave. They just kept getting closer and closer and he was afraid they were trying to possess him and steal his body. He said "You didn't hear me yelling?". I told him he was sleeping. He said "No, I was in the kitchen!".

As much as I tried being the voice of reason and explaining that these things don't exist, he was petrified. He slept with the bathroom light on for weeks. He really is convinced that these are demons. I tried being analytical and using a bit of "maybe it's your past and your guilt coming back to haunt you in your dreams" psychology. Kind of metaphorical... But he still believes they're real creatures. It actually scares me to see him go from being the strong-minded, amazing, brave man that he is...to a quivering ball of goo...all because of a superstition that he was raised with.

Now, he's seen these shadowy figures since he was a kid. He said his grandmother saw them as well. I can't explain how they BOTH saw them, but it seems like perhaps he may not remember overhearing her talking about them and then he started having sleep paralysis and started seeing them himself?

In all seriousness, though... My nephew was washing his hair every day for weeks and we could not figure out why his hair was so damn GREASY all the time. It looked like he never washed it at all! Turns out, he was using CONDITIONER instead of SHAMPOO. But he was 10 years old...what's your excuse??

i confess proudly that i was one of the biggest assembly food rapists when it switched to the donation arrangement.

in fact, i would roll up to the counter with a fake list and pretend i was getting food for a huge family, lol.

"uh, yes, hello sister, what a fine morning program that was, may i please have 6 roast beef sandwhiches, 6 chocolate puddings, 6 apple danishes, 6 sodas....etc" and i would eat throughout the entire fking program, as it was so boring there was nothing else to do.

@ wha happened, I was about to say the same thing you said in your first post! The final year they had the food arrangement, my family didn't get a damn thing to eat for lunch on the final day of the convention because of pubs like the OP. And we didn't have any way of leaving to get anything for lunch, either.

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who take advantage. I didn't do it when I was a dub, and I damn sure don't do it now. But I've been on the receiving end of such behavior numerous times. In short, it's not right, it's not fair to others, and it's certainly not funny.

further to my post the other day re: jw study who had a conversation with me on facebook and started questioning his beliefs, he has now contacted me back....will post the quotes underneath.. his response:.

yes i did tell some brothers how confused i was about the information you sent me, they said does it matter where charles russel is burried, i aggree its abou god not man, and as for peadophillia in past yes it did happen in congregations, but that happens everywhere and they said they did not promote it obviously and that people leave when they done that dark act, they said that the police have been employed in past, there are no more cases i now of, again i dont blame god for this he will sort them out...havent been for a while now , at the end of the day there is lots of stuff on net and as long as i am doing it whole from my heart no one judges me but god, i have so many beautifulll friends in the truth, i believe jehova does have a body of people in the world , you do what you will and all the best i just want to do well and all the religions are in wars and do what they want , i am up for 1 god 1 tounge and not doin waht the rest proclaim to do and be there own gods.... its just that all this came out of nowhere , our chats and was damaging to god , i have no idea what you believe in but your messin with fire if you ask me , dont get lost in apostasy and youtube as its a minefield of miss trust.

My BF is a Mason, and from what he told me about the history, Russell was actually removed from the Masons for sharing things they were supposed to keep among themselves. Although Russell said he was not a Mason in one of his speeches, from what I was told, he was telling the truth at that point because he'd been kicked out already. Of course, I can't show evidence of this because it's not something I can obtain written information on since I'm not a Mason, nor do I qualify to be in Eastern Star (because BF and I aren't married).

That said, I applaud your efforts to get this guy to see reason. However, I find that when talking to people about the JW's, you have to feel out what will have the greatest effect on them. Some people (like myself) were convinced with the pedophilia scandals and the UN, as well as other hypocrasies. Other people find the flip flops in doctrine (how can they have holy spirit if they keep changing things back and forth?) to be the nail in the coffin. Still others are convinced when they see that the Bible itself is completely twisted by the JW's to suit their own agenda.

It seems to me that he is seeking one right religion to follow. Unfortunately, this doesn't exist. If he desires to be a Christian and follow Jesus' teachings, then he must get rid of the idea that an organization is needed in order to do so. I would work on that angle. Discuss the religious aspect of it with him. Use Jesus' teachings themselves. Ask open-ended questions and get him to tell you the answers based on how the Bible READS, not based on how the JW's interpret it through their scripture-mining.

I wish you luck if you decide to pursue this.

Beer tastes yucky

i've tried and tried to like beer but i just can't.

if that sounds juvenile (with is really funny cuz i'm soon to be 47) so be it.

my hubby, on the other hand, loves beer and ale especially wheat beers.

I'm with you, mrsjones! My BF loves beer and we're always buying new types for him to try. His latest favorite is one that's El Salvadorian.

Personally, I can't get on board with beer. It just makes me blech . However, I find I enjoy hard cider! Magner's is wonderful and it's the closest to beer that I will drink. It has a SLIGHT "beer" flavor, but is very light and refreshing.

The only thing I use beer in is cooking. I make some great ethnic dishes that require beer.
