Well, here's the thing.... if she's a married lesbian, then would she have to divorce her wife in order to be baptised? And if so, then isn't divorce without adultery against JW rules? So it's quite an impasse. She'd have to break up her family completely in order to become JW and remain absolutely celibate for the rest of her life or until Armageddon when Jehoober "fixes" her. Wonder if he'll fix the other species of animals who engage in same-sex relationships, too....

Grumpy Old Witnesses.....did you know some!! We know why they are!
by Witness 007 inafter all the preaching and teaching i am amazed at the amount of grumpy rude old witnesses there are!
one old fella always left some belongings on the seat next to him, and would get irritated if someone asked for the seat....two old pioneer sisters {my mom is one} refuse to stop bickering and fighting...they are threatening to use voice recorders for evidence at their next elders meeting!.
are they just angry being part of the "millions now living will never die.

I was sitting in a coffee shop the other day with a friend and an elderly sister was there with a group of non-JW friends of hers. One was talking about how women are horrible and was really being loud with tearing down women in general. This old buzzard pipes up with "Yeah, young women are horrible...but make sure you get LAID! As long as you're getting LAID, don't complain!". I've known this woman since I was a child and was appalled, to say the least!
Also, a lot of the older men in our hall had no understanding of what it's like to have children because I was always getting dirty looks when my kids cried and my husband was always getting called to be reader at the bookstudy or to handle mics and I'd be left with 2 small children to wrangle. They really didn't care.

I just experienced some uncourteous behavior today. I was walking and crossing a very busy road (in the crosswalk, mind you) and when I got to the median in the middle to cross to second half of it, a JW elder who had plenty of time to stop just drove right on past and didn't even bother to brake for me. But the "worldly scum" who was behind him came to a full stop and let me pass. They're such shining examples, aren't they? One could even say "Christ-like"...

My kids always got sick after assemblies and conventions. Pink eye, colds, you name it. They always ended up with something bad that just wouldn't go away.

Why should I believe the Bible?
by wobble ini don't ask for myself, but my son said last night that he sees no reason to take any notice of a book written by men over many centuries.. could the believers on here give me some ammunition to shoot across his bows to at least get him to consider the bible's merits?.
i am familiar with the arguments against he bible, and my son is familiar with the wt defense of the bible and is not convinced.. thanks in advance,.
love.

From a historical perspective? Some of it is accurate, so some of it is believable. But miracles, son of God, etc.? Those parts I don't think are in the least believable. Especially since the gospels differ SO much on who Jesus was and what his message was. Do I believe Jesus existed? Yes. But I also harbor a secret belief in the Loch Ness Monster, so take that for what it's worth. I think he existed, but I don't think he was the son of God, I don't think the Bible is important as anything more than a way to understand how so many people act the way they do and also a way to reflect on Jesus most important teachings. Love for fellow human beings being foremost to me. Too many beliefs that are thought to be solely Christian are actually eerily similar to pagan beliefs. So who has it right? The names are different, but the stories are the same. And, to me, all it is is mankind trying to make some sense out of their existance because we don't want to accept the truth.

In my opinion it's a waste, certainly. But when you believe in something so ardently, it's never a waste to YOU to promote it. I bet if you asked her about her 28,000 wasted hours, she'd say it was the very best use of her time. It's all about perspective.

How do you deal?
by XOCO ini just wanted to say that miss this board sometimes and once in a blue moon i just come here to lurk... and btw i like the new form look :-).
do you guys just hate it sometimes that the witness that you use to know try and convince you (even though they claim that they are not trying to convince you) to stay inside the wtbts (assuming that you are not df'd/da) and that their is no better place for you to go and no matter what proof you try to give them it goes one ear and out the other .
i feel like they don't respect my wishes at all or that they don't even take me seriously.

I know what you mean. My dad pretty much lets it ride and leaves me alone for the most part. My MOM, however...oy! Last week it was "Oh, the assembly is Sunday...do you want to go?". Before that it was "Do you want to go to the meeting on Sunday?" and before THAT it was "Do you want to go to the Memorial?". ARGH! No...no no no NO!! I feel like I'm in a Dr. Seuss book. I do not like false stories and lies. I do not like them on a ball, I do not like them in the Hall...I do not like false stories and lies. I do not like wool over my eyes! She seriously drives me bonkers. A couple of weeks ago, she told me that at the Service Meeting, there was going to be a special "Local Needs" part that was going to be the same all over the world. That piqued my interest, I'll admit. But it was only because I was wondering what the hell else they're going to make everyone conform on.

I'm beginning to think that whole story of Adam and Eve is BS. B
But, that's another thread.
I personally think it is lol. But I'm just saying...for argument's sake...if they did exist, they didn't have belly buttons lol.

Whichever one gets suggested when the BOE convenes. In other words, whoever is well-liked. Then they'll debate on why or why not they should be chosen. My dad went through something like this. He was suggested as a MS, but a few of the elders didn't think he should be one because his service time was lacking. My dad is 53 years old and works full time so that my mom can pioneer. So the time is getting put in somehow. But, they didn't think he was a candidate because of that. My dad is probably the most down-to-earth person and if I really approached him in the future about leaving, I think he would listen to me. But not right now. He is going to have to see a lot more for himself before he is ready.

I say no...because of the absence of the umbillical cord. The belly button is called the "umbillicus" for a reason. Simply put, it's a scar left when the umbillical cord is cut, shrivels, and drops off. Adam and Eve were not born of woman, so therefore there would be no umbillucus.
