Service Meeting says "Leave Everything"
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthis has probably been addressed, but i'm in a rush and wanted to get this out asap while it's fresh and before i have to run off again.
and i don't have the km with me to note the exact instructions and passages discussed, anyway.... last week in the service meeting, there was an unusual part that i wish i would have been prepared for.
the only material was to read a couple passages from luke and discuss how they affect our attitude toward our ministry.

More on Saturday's drama: Endo-symbiotic theory mentioned not once but twice
by sir82 ini don't want to give a full synopsis of saturday's drama, for fear of inducing stupor among this thread's readers, but.... .
the drama deals with a jw family with 3 kids, 2 of whom are in various stages of rebellion against all things jw.. the older brother is one of the "rebels", while the younger brother is a thoroughly annoying piece of brown-nosing crapola, completely buying into the jw mindset.. anyways, the younger brother is asking the older brother about why he doesn't want to attend the family study any more.. the older kid's rambling answer touches on something along the lines of "i'm learning things in school about how life really came here.
it's not as simple as you think!".

The underlying message is education is bad for your children. Don't let them get more than the 3r's, as long as they can read well enough to read the WT literature that's all they need. An equally illiterate elder can "teach" them to read better in the TMS. We all know what a joke the TMS is. What is the qualification for conducting the TMS? Being so stupid that you can find a way to avoid the assignment noone else wants. That is who is educating the childeren. The manipulation is obvious. Anyone now trying to learn about biology outside the selective science of the WTS is going to be compared to the Bad Kid.

Taking back re-defined words
by onefootout ini was trying to think of all the words that wts re-defines to mold the thinking of anyone who will listen.. truth, or the truth.. i am going to try to use the word 'truth' in conversation in it's proper context, describing things that are actual truisms to try to get people to view the word not as describing the religion they belong to, but to things that are actually true.
emphasize that actual truisms never change.. generation.. this one takes some sublty because it has been latched onto by us doubters and could raise the forcefields.
example: so many of the people our parents or grandparents age of the 'greatest generation' that experienced ww2 have died.

I am going to try to use the word 'truth' in conversation in it's proper context, describing things that are actual truisms to try to get people to view the word not as describing the religion they belong to, but to things that are actually true. Emphasize that actual truisms never change.
Generation.
This one takes some sublty because it has been latched onto by us doubters and could raise the forcefields. Example: So many of the people our parents or grandparents age of the 'Greatest Generation' that experienced WW2 have died. Or point out that the last veteran of WW1 died recently, and 'that generation is gone now'.
I know there are lots of other words in this same vein. Can you guys and gals come up with some more JW re-defined words and how we can casually use them in conversation to feed and heighten the cognitive dissonance, described as the difference between what you are seeing or hearing and what you know to be true somewhere in your brain. (simplistic definition).
The more parity in the dissonance the more the person is to an epiphany.

Becoming of the anointed & seeing the light
by discreetslave ini was recently born again and thus am anointed because of this i have come to realize that though there are sincere people who are jw, some teachings are fine but the wt organization is a fraud.
here is my story sorry if it's a bit long but i need to tell it.. 16 years ago today i was baptized as one of jw's.
i was 17 years old the only one in my family.

Welcome discreet. We all have our own journey regarding God and spirituality. I hope you can preserve your family. Please think through your decisions and methods and be sure of the outcome of your decisions in advance. Having support of those close to you after such an upheaval of faith is vital. The shunning you will recieve from family and friends can take a serious toll, especially if depression and suicidal thoughts are familiar ground for you. I wish only the best for you.

Hi, Newbie Here
by Iseenow inwell i have been lurking for the past couple of weeks and have finally decided to create an account.
just wanted to introduce myself and relate my life story in the borg, specifically from the past few weeks- which i think has been a lot easier than many on the board.
anyway, my mum began to study when i was 10 (2005) and since then has been babtized; she strongly believes it is the truth.

Welcome! It's good you are asking the tough questions now. I agree with previous posters...don't get baptized! Family relationships and free thought and decision making remain yours as long as you don't give over your free will to some old jerks over in New York.
One thought..."watchtower never claimed inspiration". There have been recent articles that say outright that listening to the Governing body - through the watchtower - equates to listening to the Voice of Jehovah.

Numbers exiting
by onefootout indoes anyone have a running tally of the average numbers leaving/inactive each year?
if i calculate right, 2009 saw 59,269 leave and then 2010 saw 115,857 leave.
if i am looking at this right, that is a huge jump.
