When someone gives me advice (whether I asked for it or not) I almost always can find something useful in it.. The un-useful parts I just ignore.
But chronic advice-givers who don't follow their own advice annoy me.

How Much Advice Do You Really Want? Or Need?
by AllTimeJeff inone of the more intriguing aspects of the jw forums i have been on is having a (mostly) anonymous poster(s) give advice to you.
i know that on many threads started, this advice is solicited.. on other threads, it isn't, but it still comes in.
thats cool as far as i am concerned, if you put stuff out about yourself, then different people will react differently, and have different takes on it.. at the same time, i have tons of advice to give, and my experience as a former elder is to rarely give it.

UPDATE: to my daughter getting arrested

by restrangled inevery single piece of paper, old magazines bills and empty boxes saved for future sales of equipment....(because the original box makes it more valuable)...... god help me, i am ready to light a match!.

Satan- Perfect Scapegoat for Witnesses Ignoring Real Causes of Situations
by flipper inin a recent thread i started on music i couldn't help noticing how many had to throw their alleged " worldly music " out because parents, or elders told them their music brought them " under the influence of demons ", or listening to music was how " the demons got inside us ".
this superstitious belief that " satan " is to blame for each witnesses demise is really a passing of the buck of responsibility so it sidesteps real issues involved.. for example : check these familiar expressions out we all heard while we were jehovah's witnesses .. .
1. if a person was stumbled and said, " i don't want to go to meetings anymore.

Not being around pedophiles makes me happy, too, verystupid!!
One time, there was a carload of witnesses out in service and they were in a car accident. All week long at the service arrangements, the brothers prayed that Satan wouldn't do that again to anyone.

The desperation of JWs hoping the end comes "soon"
by sir82 ini'm starting to sense a certain desperation among jws, that they feel that the great tribulation must start soon.
i think this is due, in many cases, to their own personal situation, financial or otherwise.. if the gt doesn't come soon, and these guys really start to suffer - what then?
the watchtower's promises that "jehovah would not forsake them if they put kingdom interests first" by skipping or dropping out of college, turning down promotions, "simplifying" their lives by selling their homes and moving to the hinterlands...will all prove to be meaningless.. if the gt doesn't come soon, and "jehovah" doesn't bail them out...then what?.

This reminds me of a sad story:
This older couple in our Hall, farmers, but retired, without a penny to rub together. She pioneered for years. They moved into the city after selling the farm. A couple of years ago, he took a job delivering pizza at night to get extra money to go to the Assembly. Anyhow, he got the S%$*T beat out of him one night while delivering, robbed, broke his glasses, stole the money. He was in the hospital in one city while we all went to the Assembly 3 hours away.
My questions:
If he needed extra money to go to the Assembly, why didn't the cong take up a collection and help him out?
Did I want to be 65 years old, delivering pizza and getting beat up for extra money?
No way. I'll work my full-time job now and plan ahead, thank-you very much.....
