What are the fruits that we are supposed to recognize?
by bluecanary ini posted most of this on another thread but i want this to stand alone so i can refer back to it in the future.
one of our resident apologists has given her response on this thread.
you can judge the relative worth of her response for yourself.. "by their fruit you will recognize them.

Good one, blue. I've been thinking alot about this subject lately.
The fruitage of the holy spirit is love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, mildness, self-control and faith. (I think I'm missing one....)
So an organization that claims to be directed by holy spirit should have ALL of these qualities. Do I see love (in general) practiced there? Are the people truly joyful? Do the organization's practices reflect mildness and kindness?
I don't expect perfection, so when a mistake is made do they admit it and fix the problem?
That is what I am looking for now. I will base any religion on that scripture in Galatians 6.

Maybe it depends on the kind of headache. Like, NO sex if it's a migraine. YES sex if it's the garden variety headache.
Where in the H...E.....double hockey sticks is nathmedeah??? I'm sure I read sex is good for a headache. And it works for me, I swear.

Sex is never a bad idea.
I request for nathmedeah to settle this. Where is she?

Sex.
It releases endorphines, natural painkillers.
Enjoy!

I need help in facing our abuser...
by cognac inthe thought of it scares me so much i can't even think straight... just writing this makes my heart race like you wouldn't believe.. i need to face my dad and mom.
my dad abused us, my mom allowed the abuse.
i need to face him with my two older brothers - the ones who got it the worst and who never faced them about it.... i know my mind will go blank so i'm simply going to write out what i have to say and read it to them.

My brothers and sisters and I did that same thing with my parents. (I wrote my story here "All About Palmtree")
Neither parent apologised or acknowledged what had gone on. There was every excuse in the book given, my favourites were that we were just particularly bad kids, and that they felt we were no different than any other family.
Before you confront them, you all need to figure out what it is you expect from the confrontation. If you are expecting an apology, it likely won't happen. How will you deal with that? If they don't acknowledge the abuse, you have to be prepared for that, too.
Also, after you've said what you want to say, be clear about what kind of relationship you want with them NOW, outlining whatever boundaries you feel necessary.
I don't regret my confrontation with my parents, it gave me closure and we basically just agreed to disagree about how we were raised. I have little to do with them now and I am at peace with my past.
Good luck and a special hug to you,

Getting Offended: A Method of Control
by daniel-p ini was always frustrated with how much counsel and advice was given at the kingdom hall on how not to offend others.
it seemed like complete immunity was given to the person getting offended.
they were never counselled to just mind their own business, but if anyone had any reason to be offended about something you had done, the elders, or that person, would be sure to let you know about it.. most of the time it was nobody's business.

This was always one of my pet peeves, too!!!!
Just because your feelings are hurt, DOES NOT mean the other person did something wrong!!!

If Shunning Didn't Exist, Would JW's Exist In Their Current Form?
by AllTimeJeff inin my opinion, this is the crux of the matter where ex jw's are concerned.. so many religions have disagreements with their members.
but you can disagree, research, question, and leave if that is your wish.
you may receive some sanction depending on the religion, but no shunning is required in the major faith's and religions of christendom.

Maybe the change in shunning practices will come from WITHIN.
I have notcied that few young people shun another df'ed young person. When younger ones get df'ed, the rest of them still hang out with and talk to them on a regular basis. But they DON"T do it at the Hall. And they DON"T tell anybody older than themselves that they still hang out.

One Saturday morning, I called on a house where there had clearly been a huge party the night before. Beer bottles all over the lawn, people passed out in the yard.....
A young guy answered the door, all bleary eyed and before I could say anything, he said, "Oh, you're so pretty. But you're one of THOSE."
Then he closed the door.
