"newbie" post - after eight years registered
by pajaha inactually, this is my second post as i replied to a thread a few moments ago, but it turns out i originally registered eight years ago but had never posted.. i left in 2000 (from a newport, s wales, congregation) having been brought up in it from about the age of three.
initially, i was obsessed with research and posting to forums but got over it after a few years and just rediscovered this site a couple of days ago.
i just thought it would be worth posting my account of leaving in case it helped others.. i always considered myself to be "strong in the truth" and genuinely believed it,, but i suppose the amount of suppressed doubts had been mounting up and i think it was the summer of 1999 when i first thought of leaving.

Are They Cynically Shutting Down The Organization?
by metatron ini've raised this idea before but recent events seem to support it.
changes in the watchtower may be guided by more than a need for cash flow: they may simply be liquidating/shutting it down as discreetly as possible.. of course, this doesn't mean they stop working on their upstate ny country club - but it could mean that the throrough going exposure and disproof of their beliefs on the internet, when it emerged, took many of them by surprize, as it did many of us!
after awhile, they generally gave up trying to make any sense of their doctrines - and coupled with cash flow issues - moved towards a quiet retreat.. take a look at a few things:.

If I recall correctly, the time of the winter solstice was a frightening time for many European peoples. They felt genuine fear that the sun wasn't going to return - that it would slip away and leave the earth in an eternal darkness. That's why the date of December 25th was so significant - using solar markers, it usually was pretty clear by December 25th that the sun was returning - beginning to swing north again...
I meant - that the earth's wobble was functioning normally, and the earth would swing south again...

Hmm.
I've "sworn off" Christmas after hubby totally refused to help with it for nearly 16 years, but...
I just enjoy it so much!
Last year I didn't celebrate it AT ALL - no tree, lights, etc, but I think I'll celebrate it this year, again. The house just looked so naked without any lights or a tree...
