If any of my family who are still in the organization view this video, it will make the ex-JW community a target of derision.
Why does Brenda Lee embarrass herself (and other active ex-JWs) in such an amateurish fashion.

Marjoe, I've been thinking. Isn't the interest deduction for our mortgage akin to the earned income credit? I mean the gov is paying us to buy a house, or be a poor worker. So one is a credit for those who are well off enough to have a mortgage, the other is a credit for those who are not. We don't pay that interest to the gov, we pay it to the bank. So who is actually getting that credit?
A credit and a deduction are very different. The deduction means you pay less tax. The credit means (often) that you RECEIVE money you did not pay.
So the fellow paying the bank interest still pays taxes and still pays....only to the bank, as you observe.
The EITC fellow not only does not pay (either the government or the bank) and yet receives money as a REFUND of funds that he did not pay to begin with.
Now I'll be labeled a miisogynistic woman-hater because I used masculine pronouns in my example. For cameo-d and recovering: I am not now, nor have I ever been, a gender-phobe or whatever the current politically correct term for an "idiot" who only uses male pronouns in his/her examples.

But if that isn't enough reason, how about the fact that consumer spending is 70% of our economy?
Yes that is a worthy economy, print money, "refund" it to those who pay no taxes yet consume government services, so they can in turn "consume" stuff they didn't really "earn."
Perhaps a fairer solution would be centerally-run and -planned communes commrade?
Besides the EITC folks probably make up a smaller proportion of the 70% you cite than they do the population of that 70%. In other words, the higher end of the scale is smaller numerically but, no doubt, over represented in the 70%.
So we don't need EITC to keep the small part of the 70% happening. We'll have a great deal of the 70% from non-EITC people. That consumer spending is a large component of the economy does not mean we must give folks EITC so they can consume.

I made 7 bucks an hour at one time. I didn't like it so I made changes.

So if you work your buns off all day, but unfortunately only make 7 bucks an hour, you are a "freeloader" if you get a credit? Do you actually understand what makes the economy go 'round?
"unfortunately" why? Because they haven't developed a skill set worth more than $7 per hour? Or had multiple children whilst unable to support them? That is the taxpayers' fault?
Where is the "unfortunate" piece, other than for those of us who have to actually pay income taxes?

Not a problem, I've been rude before myself. Hey, since you're being responsible, like the EITC folks who have a job, maybe you too can get the government to pay you for being responsible, kinda' like receiving a "refund" from income taxes you never paid. :-)

Amazingly assholish. Do you actually know anyone who gets the EIC? Do you realize that it's for people who WORK?
They may work ("Earned Income") but do they pay income taxes? no. they receive welfare from the IRS for working.

Gallup: 61% of Americans saying they regard the income taxes they have to pay this year as fair.
Is this 61% of all Americans or 61% of those who actually pay income taxes. Are the freeloading Earned Income folks in the 61% also?
Depending on the sample, it's not surprising. I wonder how it corelates to what, if any, amount of income tax they pay.
I am fortunate to pay lots of income taxes but 61% of the people I know who do pay lots of income tax are not thinking their amount is "fair."
This whole line about nuclear waste is full of red flags, and likely someone's political or journalistic wet dream to make themselves popular.
