I heard recently that they are trying to build a new Assembly hall in Phoenix.
Does anyone know if it's true and what the progress so far?

I have some concern that I may face this same situation. This letter is a great piece of reference information! I think that the Witnesses have a right to DF anyone they want, I just don think they have a right to publically announce the victim's name from the platform. Those meetings are open to the public so non JW's will hear the announcement. I dont claim to be a witness and if anyone was to ask me my affiliation with the witnesses, I would say I havent been part of that orfanization for years (the truth is, about 10 of them). I still have family who are Witnesses and would like to keep my "status" as "perpetually inactive/disinterested". I get the occasional pep talk, but I just let that roll off my back.
Thanks again for sharing this!

Simon,
I actually admire your tenacity to develop this forum "in house". I look forward to seeing your improvements. Have you thought about "open sourcing" the development? Maybe you could get some good input. I know security is one of the hardest things to test for - the developer has a hard time thinking "outside himself" to look for alternate ways to break things.

mrs fader and i went over to a friends house to hand out candy.
we only lightly prepared for the occasion, with just a few cool clothing items like funky hats and shirts, but we bought lots of candy.
we initially expected only a few kids and we would be left with a bunch of late night snacks, but we were "cleaned out".

It was a wonderfull night, we saw some of the best outfits on the little tikes, and some kinda creepy ones on the larger kids. Everyone was nice, it seemed that almost everyone was accompanied by parents or some adults. I think it was very good seeing a neighborhood interact in such a pleasant way. We had our grandaughter with us and Mrs Fader took her to a few houses for some "Treats". I have to say that halloween has been puounded into our heads as a Satanic holiday - but all I saw were good people having fun and exchanging candy and a few laughs.

the jw and the (pseudo?
)scientific "hopes" of individual "everlasting life" (which have been connected on a couple of recent threads) have at least something in common: they all seem to take for granted that death is a bad thing.. as amazing as it may be to you, this amazes me so much that i don't know even where to start.
of course death hurts in reality when you lose people you love, or in imagination when you anticipate your own extinction.
Funny thought:
"Darth," says god, "you must die so I can make a new person. I've run out of souls."

I conclude that death is a bad thing for it robs me of the ability to satisfy my curiosity for the future.

Reasoning from the Scriptures:
Are
Jehovah’sWitnessesasectoracult? Some define sect to mean a group that has broken away from an established religion. Others apply the term to a group that follows a particular human leader or teacher. The term is usually used in a derogatory way. Jehovah’s Witnesses are not an offshoot of some church but include persons from all walks of life and from many religious backgrounds. They do not look to any human, but rather to Jesus Christ, as their leader.
A cult is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adherents live in groups apart from the rest of society. The standard for what is orthodox, however, should be God’s Word, and Jehovah’s Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a way of life, not a ritual devotion. They neither follow a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people.
How
oldisthereligionofJehovah’sWitnesses?According to the Bible, the line of witnesses of Jehovah reaches back to faithful Abel....

today i was watching a documentary about a case where 3 people were murdered in a contract killing.
the book hit man by paladin press was used as an instructional guide as to the specifics of planning a murder, the best weapons to use, where a person should stand (3 to 6 feet away from the intended victim) etc.
evidently, this company specializes in books that detail how to dispose of a body, martial art and boxing details to win a fight, espionage and many other topics that most would consider "underground".
In sure that lots of individuals have access to anthrax "recipes" or nuclear bomb designs. But, it takes a lot more than just instructions to have a working Virus or Nuclear bomb. There are parts of each of these things that are extremely difficult to obtain. I remember an article about a kid collecting smoke detectors to harvest the radioactive material in order to build a working nuclear power plant. He didnt get very far and is pretty messed up: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292111,00.html
So it's not the complex virus "recipes" or Nuclear Bomb plans that we should be concerned about. I would worry about things like social engineering: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_engineering_(security)

It takes little effort to find unsavory information on just about any topic. The fact that this information exists doesnt cause people to commit crimes. Does it make their job easier... sure! Just like killing a person with a gun is easier than a knife. And killing someone with a knife is easier than with a spoon. So the challenge is where do you draw the line. Was anyone directly harmed by the collection and printing of a "criminal acts - how-to manual". I think not. In the McVeigh case, I would say that the access to fertalizer and ammonia nitrate is now controlled in better ways - to prevent "access with ill intent".
