Human drug trials go through extreme controls to remain objective - yet there is still bias in the process. Any "placebo" effects are likely the result of human bias. Human bias can come from the test givers as well as the test takers. There may be nothing wrong with the process, everyone follows the rules, but a tiny bit of emotion can shift the trial participant's outcome. It just means that when re-resting certain drugs, the administrators of the test are not in the "same emotional state" as the prevoius ones. The original tests may have been effected by the optimism of the administrators. This "natural" optimism will be hard to reproduce.

The Elevator from Ipanema-- and now for some comic relief
by FlyingHighNow ini'll begin with the funniest thing i've seen on youtube in a long time.
some college kids with a bass, trombone and drums set up to play elevator music in the elevator of their dorm andddd they film the response.
(inspired by the sears tower elevator scene in blues brothers no doubt.).

Cut Military spending... no problem, but I dont buy the argument that the government spends $75 on a toilet seat that should only be $10. If there are $75 toilet seats, it's because there is a special requirement for size, shape or some odd pressurization requirements. I know several military procurement officers and they say that every 3 years or so, their supply contracts come under review and they must submit bids for the best price lowest bid wins. As fars as Cracker Barrel Snail Research goes -- take a look at this site: maybe there's some research projects that can get wacked: http://majorityleader.gov/YouCut/, but again I doubt that there are real cracker barrel snails in jeopardy -
All kidding aside, how do you determine that one project gets cut over another?
Stopping the Iran/Afg war would go a long way to reduce military spending, but Im not sure anyone knows how to best end that without those areas becomming even more dangerous.

FHN, Fair enough, what areas would you cut?
Bizz, I already have, he stated that since we dont have the political will to cut spending it's insane to cut (on in this case extend the Bush cuts) taxes. We are only delaying the expense for the next generation - they would become "Tax slaves". I think the taxes that government currently collects is about all the current economy can support. It's the spending that is the root problem. And if you raise taxes on the top 5$ of income people, they have the economic flexibility to move their cash/income elsewhere.

Some observations from the KM Elder School I wanted to share with you.
by miseryloveselders inmy school was a couple weeks back, and it was interesting to a degree.
to be honest with you, it reminded me of a police crime scene investigation with yellow tape.
what i mean is, in one respect it was business as usual.

How many "local customs" are imposed on the rank and file without "guidance" from Mother? In Phoenix we has some zealous congregations that banned cowboy boots, bolo ties and required jackets for field service in summer time. These made no sense but were originally started by a CO from back east. One dude spouts off an opinion and all the brothers run to oblige.

Is it reasonable to ask: Is there any financial or other "compensation" that would cause very large percentages of climatologists to toss their hat into the Global Warming pool? Are any of these groups dependent of funding derrived from the concerns on Global Warming? If so, is it enough to bias individuals?
Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist here... but I gotta ask.
Thanks

No matter what social/entitlement programs you cut, there will always be those individuals that are effected critically and some are still able to "game the system" and live off taxes of others.
Wikipedia: Reagan also attempted to increase the solvency of Social Security by cutting disability and survivor benefits, and by increasing the FICA payroll withholding tax.

My point was that within 20 posts, you were comparing Ronald Regan to Hitler. I would have thought it that would have taken more posts than that before we stooped that low.
Ronald Regans error was not cutting spending at the same time as cutting taxes. The deficit balooned under his watch. And for that matter, the percent of Government spending has been increasing as a % of GDP quite steadily over the past 90 years except for the Internet Boom years (1992, 2000). That economic flourish was a "perfect storm" of increased productivity + technical advancement in business and it makes no sense to credit any president with that success either.
