Documentary About The Flood and Noah's Ark
by Blue Grass inabout a week or two ago i watched a documentary about the flood in noah's day entitled "in search of noah's ark".
two things i found very interesting in this program is a theory that one person had about how they believed the flood was caused due to a meteor hitting the ocean creating a tsunami that flooded the entire earth.
scientist were unanimous in their view that this is a very plausible scenario and that there is no way to rule this possibility out.

Only got to page 4.....wasn't part of Noah's Ark found on top of a mountain somewhere? That's what I've always been lead to believe anyway. Someone enlighten me, please?

Belief in God, the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, and Fairy God Mothers
by frankiespeakin inwhen we were a young child full of wonder at the world, so new, so innocent, we believed what ever mommy and daddy told us, if they said there was a tooth fairy why we believed it until we got older(hopefully) especially when we get our permanent teeth.. santa was probably discarded around the same time as the tooth fairy give or take a few years depending on gullibility or lack of it.. well lets face it we probably figured out the easter bunny first for the simple reason you only got some eggs,, which you can have any day of the week and you get to eat a lot of chocolate bunnies ears off not very pious mind you, nor do you fear the bunny might seek revenge for the impious act in some way like god might do remembering: the ark and ussa or wassa or something.
that definately should be considered as a contributing factor as to why and what order they get debuncked tooth fairy danta the benifit factor need to be brought in.. god too has to go in time, eventually, just like not all at once and for everybody.
religion to control the mind is on a head on course with human species vastly excellerated enlightenment.

Hey, My JW Wife Went to a Catholic Church Funeral
by OnTheWayOut inthis is huge (to me).
my wife won't clink glasses.
she won't watch anything r-rated or any shows/movies with a mystical or religious theme or undertone.

Ada really? That's awful! How can someone be DF when their personal conscience allows something? Attending a funeral doesn't go directly against the teachings does it? Maybe I need to do more research lol.
That baby must have been so small, poor little thing. I've seen one premature baby that was born at 20wks, was so sad :( It was a loving thing your wife did, showing her friend that she cared enough to pay her respects :)

I havent read the entire thread, but had to chime in after seeing the first page :) It is true that mental illness of any kind is NOT understood or well tolerated by JWs. Its either not spoken about, or the entire family is treated as outcasts. Granted there are a few who DO pretend to sympathise, but it is like anything else in the religion, swept under the carpet and you're left to your own devices. Yes you can go on medication, but does that solve the root of it? No. Hope4others makes good points about the pressures many families face, and then the keeping up meetings and field service. It can all get too much. You never feel good enough, always inferior. Even when you try to improve, its not enough. Go to therapy and you're told you shouldnt do it because you might be taught unscriptural and worldly thinking. Its like being caught between a rock and a hard place. What do you do?
Some in the congregation still believe that mental illness can be fixed by just witnessing more, studying more, and making sure you're at every meeting. No, it goes deeper than that.
I do believe however that life in general, environmental factors and life choices can contribute to mental illness, not just being a JW.

Elder Book: Don't DF JWs who talk to DFed family. Usually. Your take?
by Open mind inif you've been reading here for long, this won't come as news to you.. i don't have my elder book with me right now, but here's the gist of what it says about what the elders should do when they find out a jw talked to a dfed family member.. 'generally, disfellowshiping is not necessary when a congregation member speaks to a close relative who is dfed.
provided there is no condoning or justifying of the wrong course.'.
that is a paraphrase, but i'm pretty sure that "justifying of the wrong course" is close to verbatim.. two questions:.

Tigeress...how sad!! I know that no matter what I do with my life, Df or not, my parents would have everything to do with my kids. They love them like their own. And if I went on to have more children, I am sure my mother would support me as much as she could. I do however know of witness parents shunning their Df children AND their grandchildren. Very, very sad.

Thankyou Wobble :) I hear witnesses often talking about the UN getting 'their teeth'.....I assume to attack 'false religion'....? For a baptised witness I sure dont know much. Makes me feel very guilty. Maybe its because Ive been fading for many years now. True what they say: use it or lose it (knowledge)

The notion of JWs having 'the truth' is what bothers me alot these days. How do we KNOW it is the truth? But if it IS the truth, then I'm crapped on for even doubting it. Oops! It's not like history where we can base knowledge on something solid. This religion requires alot of faith. But Im one of those types of people who needs evidence. Solid evidence. Not just a blind faith.
Then I get things running through my mind like rainbows; and the flood. And dinosaur bones being found, and did they die during the flood? So I keep weighing up faith with logic, trying to build fact. I am completely muddled. There are so many questions I have. Is it wrong of me not to trust in faith? Is there something wrong with me for not taking what I know and just plain ole believing it? Am I just not trusting in God enough?

WLD...wow, yes, totally hypocritical behaviour on the shunning bit. Makes you wonder what point they were trying to prove. Just doesnt make sense does it.
