Nice read. Alot of good, honest points and viewpoints of current Jw's I'd assume. It's nice hearing from an elder.

An Elder wrote anomously...
by Butterflyleia85 ini realize as an elder that i am speaking out against the very organization i try to faithfully represent, but i personally think that the governing body is wrong by teaching that only what they teach us, as printed in the watchtower publications, should be considered to be the truth.
theyve made the expression of any personal opinions or group debates over their official versions of biblical truths subject to disciplinary action often leading to someone being disfellowshipped.. .
that is why i feel that i must keep my own identity somewhat anonymous.

I Don't Have to Be "RIGHT" Anymore.
by OnTheWayOut infor the record, i don't believe in the god of the bible, and i find it hard to believe in the god of any religion on earth.
i am closest to atheist in my beliefs if you want a traditional title, but i prefer "rationalist.
" i will do god's will for me when he directly tells me what it is.

I think because they believe they have the truth, thats it...final...end of story. They truly in their heart of hearts think they are hand picked, so of course noone else can be correct about anything. It's not something they're born with, otherwise everyone in the world would have this degree of arrogance (some would say passion) in everything they did. But because Jw's believe they have 'the truth', it places them above everyone else. I think the degree of arrogance/passion they exude is learnt.

What do Americans know about Europe?
by dutchstef ini had a lot of fun reading the topic about english spelling and i asked the above question already under that topic, but i think a it's interesting enough to create a new topic.. for instance:.
a) what is the capital city of denmark?.
b) what is the difference between holland and the netherlands.

Resurrection or re-creation?
by teel inthis thing (along with jehovah's capability to know everything before, wich leads to predetermination) bothered me the most while i was a practicant jw, and the topic of jws mourning brought it back to me.
maybe someone could shed a light on how jws cope with this problem.
i've seen this mentioned at other places too, so it's not just me who thought of this problem.. as we all know, jw doctrine tells that absolutely nothing survives the death.

I don't know. I don't pretend to know...lol. Strictly speaking though, you wouldn't be standing there looking at yourself if it were you...copy or otherwise...lol. That's IF this actually happens anyway. This kind of stuff makes my brain hurt...lol.

I think recent light suggests noone will be resurrected looking exactly as they did before, but that loved ones will be able to recognise the person as they will look similar. Don't mind if someone jumps in and finishes this off for me, I'm a bit rusty on things like this. But I'm fairly sure the thought had changed to this.

JW since you were small....did your parents expect too much?
by wantstoleave ina couple of other threads made me think about this.. do you think that jw parents expect far more of their children than non-jw parents?
even if we discount the religious side of things, do you think you were more answerable to your parents?
you had fears of disappointing them?.

I wonder how many others feel like me, raised in the truth (since age 3), oldest child and that sense of obligation to ones parents that probably goes beyond what it should. For instance, feeling the need to tell my parents everything that goes on in my life, like it's expected of me. Including them in everything I do because they don't have their own friends. The feeling of disappointing them hanging over my head like a cloud full of rain.
My younger brother is no longer a witness. My baby sister recently got baptised. I am the oldest and I feel so much more is expected of me. Not secularly wise (I have a degree), but in everyday decision making etc. Whereas my brother and sister never feel obligated to tell my parents their business, or visit them as often as I do.
Have you ever felt like this? If so, how did you overcome it?

Yes. That was/is me. I am still trying to like myself. I like parts of myself, my personality, but on the whole, am working on loving myself. I think the mix of doubts, a bad marriage, high expectations of parents and daily pressures of life have not made it any easier. Having said that, I'm starting to embrace the person I am, the good things about me and how life is what I make it.
