JW since you were small....did your parents expect too much?
by wantstoleave ina couple of other threads made me think about this.. do you think that jw parents expect far more of their children than non-jw parents?
even if we discount the religious side of things, do you think you were more answerable to your parents?
you had fears of disappointing them?.

Resurrection or re-creation?
by teel inthis thing (along with jehovah's capability to know everything before, wich leads to predetermination) bothered me the most while i was a practicant jw, and the topic of jws mourning brought it back to me.
maybe someone could shed a light on how jws cope with this problem.
i've seen this mentioned at other places too, so it's not just me who thought of this problem.. as we all know, jw doctrine tells that absolutely nothing survives the death.

Maybe our brains just aren't cut out for this. We only use 2%, so there's a whole other 98% waiting to be used. IF we were to one day be perfect, then perhaps we would gain full function of our brain and be able to understand all the things we don't currently. Right now we just can't comprehend and fathom much of the logistics of 'what is to come', regarding resurrection, bringing back the person as he/she was etc. But if we were using a higher percentage of our brain, then maybe we could.
I don't know. Just throwing some thoughts out there. I have struggled for many years on thoughts like these, things the human brain cannot presently understand. It all becomes ' what if' and alot of guesswork. But if Jehovah did create this earth, then he certainly has the power to do anything he so wishes. Whether that be bring those he chooses back to life, or to cause heavenly events or bring on the tribulation/armageddon.

Why Apostate?
by wantstoleave inthis may have been discussed elsewhere on this board but is something i've become increasingly aware of, and that's the apostasy issue.
growing up, i don't think anyone ever explained what it meant, nor did i ask - i just knew it was 'bad' and punishable by disfellowshipping.
therefore it is fairly embarrassing to say that until a few minutes ago and looking it up in a dictionary, i did not know what the meaning was.

Trevor, do you mean that by the witnesses calling ones Apostate, they're name calling and labelling? If so, I agree.

Ghost, you bring up a valid point. One I could use with my father, who resigned from his church when he became a Jw. His parents didn't abandon him or stop talking to him.

An Elder wrote anomously...
by Butterflyleia85 ini realize as an elder that i am speaking out against the very organization i try to faithfully represent, but i personally think that the governing body is wrong by teaching that only what they teach us, as printed in the watchtower publications, should be considered to be the truth.
theyve made the expression of any personal opinions or group debates over their official versions of biblical truths subject to disciplinary action often leading to someone being disfellowshipped.. .
that is why i feel that i must keep my own identity somewhat anonymous.

Babygirl, you got it in one 'blind faith'....it's hard. My mum told me I had to keep having a blind faith and I about cracked the wobblies....lol. Just tired of following something that can't answer all of my questions. Sometimes I wish my head didn't tick over quite so much...lol!

What do Americans know about Europe?
by dutchstef ini had a lot of fun reading the topic about english spelling and i asked the above question already under that topic, but i think a it's interesting enough to create a new topic.. for instance:.
a) what is the capital city of denmark?.
b) what is the difference between holland and the netherlands.

ATJ - Yes exactly! I was thinking the same thing the other day...how Jw's go out converting others and asking them to abandon their religions, yet when one leaves their organisation, all hell breaks loose. Thanks too for your thoughts Wobble :)

It should read: society's. As it is referring to the one society, not more than one.
