Impossible to concentrate!
by highdose inlooking back on my time as a jw i found that i sat at the meetings just willing the time to go past and just trying to get through it.
there would be a blip were i would concentrate on getting my answer in, just so that others didn't look down on me even more than they already did, but after that i would go back to sleep.. the thing is i was a very serious jw, and really did want to pay attention... i just found it to be impossible, 5 mins at the max and then drift away.... i even perfected the art of staring intently at the speaker while having my mind very much elsewhere.
and i wonder now how many jw's are actauly listening at all?.

Lol I was pretty much the same. My mind always wandered. I remember as a kid dad telling us not to let this happen. To quickly redirect our thought back to the information. But it was hard. He'd ask us after every meeting on the car ride home, 'what did you learn?'. I hated that part. So I'd spend my last few mins of meeting time preparing in my head what to say to dad...lol. I think there will alot who don't pay attention.

What if those df'd......could they?
by angel eyes ini've recently seen that some teaching have changed.
so my question is, if someone was df'd for instance for divorcing there partner for having gay relations and this was years ago when there wasnt grounds for it, so they were df'd, if now because the understanding has changed, could they appeal and be reinstated with a public apology?.

Finally-Free, yes, I remember this account. And it has actually been touched on in Wt or Awakes since. I think even in a Wt article maybe last year or the year before, the thought had changed in that if you were overcome with fear and couldn't scream, then you wouldn't be in trouble. I remember as a child saying to my parents that it wasn't fair that if you were just so scared you couldn't scream, that the brothers would haul you in the back room. I was glad when the view changed, but it's only been in recent years.

In all seriousness, I agree with everyone else here - don't do anything. It can be fun to dream up things, but in reality, best to leave them to it.

I love that episode of Seinfeld! It's kind of flattering though that they still hold you in esteem and want to use your services...lol. I'm sure it won't be too long before they stop asking :) Who knows, maybe your wife has asked them to do it, to try and encourage you?

Aspehereisnotacircle, yes, it sounds like he could possibly be on the spectrum. Maybe Aspergers. Quite often they are what is described as 'socially awkward', in that they say and do inappropriate things, they don't realise what is socially acceptable. These are things that need to be taught. Being an 'expert' on a particular subject is also an autistic tendency. Some may for instance go on and on and on about a subject of their interest, yet won't engage in conversation outside of this. This is why early intervention is necessary.

Both of my children are on the spectrum, both high functioning. I believe it is in most cases hereditary, as I have a cousin and a nephew with autism also. My children lean towards Aspergers.
