Josh, I remember the Smurf story too! We heard the same as you, Smurfs being demonised, along with the tv show Bewitched. Dad never let us watch that show or many others for fear it would invite demons into the house. There were a few other tv shows we werent allowed to watch for similar reasons. I definitely remember the Smurf story though. I was devastated, as I loved them! I was a kid, and crushed I could no longer sing the Smurf song!!

A Smurf walked out of the Kingdom Hall
by Joshnaz inwhen i was a kid, i'm guessing 5 or 6 years old.
the "smurfs are demonized" rumors started spreading around.
after a few weeks of hearing that and having to throw away all my smurf toys, i was at the kingdom hall and a sister came in with a bookbag with a big picture of a smurf on it!

I have been inactive for the best part of 5yrs...but I still have some literature lying around. I saying lying around, because I dont read it, or look at it. For many years now, just knowing its there, seeing it - makes me feel mixed emotions. Anger, frustration, sick...you get the picture. Last year an elders wife offered me some older books, as she was doing a clean out. I didnt want to say yes, but felt pressured. She called me over to collect it, and me thinking it would be a few books turned into literally 100 ! Boxes full. So into my car they went, and when I got home, straight into the trash!
I havent read a WT or Awake all the way through in at least 5yrs. Ive maybe scanned some articles here and there.

How many congregations have you been in???
by angel eyes inor did you remain in the same one since childhood?.

I've been in 8 congregations. All due to moving territories. Though the second to last one I was in was just about killing me! The hypocrisy, the leaving me and my family out, the harassment....and the slander! It was almost enough to drive me out back then.

Have known a few that have done it. One moved countries to be with her man, they are around the same age. What she didnt know was how controlling he was, and how abusive he was to his ex wife. Obviously, he had kept that to himself. Had we of met her in person beforehand, someone could have warned her. BUT, we did not meet her until they were already married. They met in person for the first time on their wedding day. He brought her to the next meeting and everyone was really shocked. In the 6yrs they've been married, she's moved back home once, for a year or so. Then he went over there for a year. Then he came back for a year. And now he's back with her, in her country. From what I hear, she is VERY miserable.
The other one I know about, they seem to be very happy. Married about 5yrs, expecting first baby, been back and forth between countries over the years. They shared a neighbouring hall with us, and were allowed to marry in the KH.

I think he's a scientologist....IF he did attend, maybe he was supporting Katherine?
What's the latest on Prince...is he still a brother? Last I heard, about 6mths ago....he was. I know someone in his congregation. Curious to know if he's still in as I haven't had contact with the sister in his hall for a long time now.

we are truly in the last days of this wicked system
by knows better inu.s. life expectancy has risen to a new high, now standing at nearly 78 years, the government reported wednesday.
the increase is due mainly to falling death rates in almost all the leading causes of death.
the average life expectancy for babies born in 2007 is nearly three months greater than for children born in 2006.. .

The annointed growing in number, I was told that was because some who had the heavenly hope had obviously left the truth, thus their spot was given to someone else. What are your thoughts on that?

'Sign of the times'
by wantstoleave inas someone who is still wading my way through fading/leaving.....im looking for thoughts on 'signs of the times'.
example, 'earthquakes in one place after another'......things like that.
world powers etc......peace and security....basically anything that has been taken from the bible to signify living in the last days.. i have to admit, when i hear about all the earthquakes around the place, especially in recent years being so many, i get a shiver of fear.

Thanks Narkissos......I enjoyed reading your explanation.....
Can someone tell me how/who then interpreted the bible into the teachings we have today? We have been taught to understand that the GB receives holy spirit, but has it solely been them that makes the rules? I really dont know as much as I should about something Ive believed all my life.

Great post! Really enjoyed reading it. And it was so true!
I have felt in the vice spoken of, when attending meetings. I feel there is the 'wall' you mentioned. I neither feel in or out. Kind of like I'm dipping my toe in water....testing it out. Everyone is nice as pie, but I dont feel I belong there. I havent felt I belong there for at least 10yrs. I kept 'in' though, telling myself it IS the truth. And asked myself things like how could I leave and displease Jehovah? I worried too that if I did leave, would I end up like so many that leave, and go 'off the rails' as it were. The thought of leaving and defaming Jehovah's name scared me witless.
Now I am questioning myself. Is it possible to leave, yet still love Jehovah? Can I leave and still love him, but serve him in my own way - with love in my heart? Does 'wholesouled' devotion and service constitute endless meetings, field service, restrictions in daily life and the constant feeling of not being good enough or does it mean to be at peace with yourself, with those around you, to be a good person and enjoy life?
Does stopping being a JW mean doing a complete turn around and dropping God altogether? Have we been poisoned so much that we feel he doesnt exist now? Do we then openly criticise the organisation in hopes of turning others against it?
There are so many questions going through my mind. Which one am I.....what will I do....what will I believe. At this point I would like to just drop everything and have blank thoughts lol. Time to recover I suppose. I think I believe there is a God, and that his name is Jehovah. But do I believe he can only be served within the confines of the organisation? I am not so sure. Do I think he will destroy all that dont heed manmade rules of congregating and preaching? I dont know. I hope Im not alone in my questioning and discovery :)
