Wow, can you imagine a person at the doors reading this? They would think it's crap and that JW's are messed up!
I'm quite annoyed by this article. Elders, pioneers, everyone in my area embraces during the prayer. I guess it makes them feel closer together, bonding etc. And if people don't want to see it, then they should keep their eyes SHUT! Lol...

i live in a country where this isn't typically a big event, and only in recent years have more started doing the whole 'trick or treat' thing.
however, i have been invited to a halloween party.
i've never participated in it before.. problem is this: i am still scared of my parents, they are a big part of my life, and know most of everything i do.

Yknot, yes, the elders know how he isn't supporting his children. They seem sympathetic to my situation, but powerless to do much else regards the ex. I think you're partly right on the social interaction front. I also think too that part of me feels as if I've missed out on things, and kind of want to go 'all out' and start doing things...lol. I know, baby steps, baby steps :) That's where I think dissed has it right, too soon for coming out maybe.
I get the feeling that this party at my friends house is just that. A party. Maybe people will dress up, I don't know. There will be other kids there, so maybe there will be some door knocking. Don't know the details yet.
for many jw's i know personally, who suffer from chronic illness, the hope of 'the new system' is what they look forward to.
you know, being able to throw the cane away, lose the wheelchair, see again etc.. now that you're out of the organisation, how do you deal with chronic illness?
if you suffer with an affliction, disease, impairment, how has your hope changed?

apparently, i am quite the sleepwalker/talker.. i actually walk around the house, and have entire conversations in my sleep.. should i be held accountable for what i do/say?.
i don't know if this means anything, but my dreams are also very vivid.
if i am woken up from the middle of a dream it takes me a long time to get back to reality.

Problem is this: I am still scared of my parents, they are a big part of my life, and know most of everything I do. If I go to this party, but have not yet distanced myself from the organisation, my parents will be on at me. Disappointed more the word and I have always been one of those devoted children who hate to disappoint their parents.
What do I do?

just wondering of those that pray and who have left the organisation, do you still address god as jehovah?.
i think i'm currently in that awkward stage where i'm neither in or out, yet don't feel i should even address, or have the right, to talk to god (jehovah) until i decide where i sit.
so i'm wondering if it's hypocritical to pray and use his name.
Thelistener....I guess I am holding me back, but also family. Only my parents and sister are JW's but I am at their house everyday, spend alot of time with them. They watch my kids while I work. We go out together. We are all each other have. My brother has already left (inactive, lives with his GF, yet refuses to celebrate holidays/birthdays).....and my parents are devastated by this. My JW husband left me with two children and doesn't support them in any way, yet still goes to meetings and claims to be a JW. I'm disillusioned by it all, stumbled, upset at being in this hellish limbo (not scrip free) and the list goes on. If I left, my parents hearts would break. That is my dilemma.
ok, so you've gotten past the fact they are not jehovahs channel of communication, and that it's just a bunch of men behind the curtain.
so then the shift goes to why do they do it?
i mean control is ok, some people crave it, but what is the big pull?
I would say for a couple of reasons,
1. They believe what they teach and
2. They love the hope of everlasting life it provides.
