I have heard it explained that freedom of religion guaranteed by the constitution is for the individual , not really the church. That would if true, protect the individual from an oppressive religion. Isn't that why the founding fathers wanted, freedom from oppressive religion ? I don't think that gives a religion carte Blanche to do anything to you under the guise of religious freedom. I don't lose my civil rights just b/c i walk into a KH.( they would like you to think so)

They won freedom of speech, while steeling mine!
by BackSlider inso oftin i recall being excited about all the cases that were won in the name of jehovah.
i would talk with my dad and ask him how could it be possible that the supreme court judges haven't become witnesses.
it made no sense to me, that these men and women were not moved by all the wins that the organization was piling up.

I would like to know more details about this before I decide it is indeed deplorable. Some docs will basically throw their hands up and ask you ( laying there with a very low blood count ) " what do you want me to do? duh, I want you to do what any doc would do. A ER or doc can be liable if they fail to provide reasonable care that ANY first year medical student would know. Just b/c a person refuses blood does not mean they refuse ALL treatment. This used to happen a lot in the past and still does in smaller hospitals. In this area the HLA was good, it did not let the docs and nurses NOT TREAT the Patient b/c of refusing blood. Money and fear of losing licenses spurs many docs etc to provide reasonable care. I speak from intimate knowledge of this and am not just blowing smoke. There can be negligence during surgery and post op. the doc and nurses and everyone are still held to the highest standards of NOT letting someone bleed out if they can stop it. There in is THE PROBLEM. Some docs /etc don't try as hard as they could have falling back on the patients refusal of blood.( the docs etc "get out of jail free" card)
After the docs, etc have provided all known help, then YES, then that would be deplorable to sue if the doc and hospital did all they could.

This is what is missing on this board now, tolerance between the religious and the atheists. . Posters like LT made this board what it was.

ARE YOU AN ANGRY and BITTER APOSTATE?
by Hummingbird001 ini have noticed that there are different reactions to learning the "truth about the truth".
some become quite bitter and angry and become very activist.
others seem to just move on quite easily.. .

I am a warm a cuddly apostate - really.
My life is my life, I cannot do anything about the past. What I am today is the sum total of every event that occurred in my life to date.
Given that I am higly pragmatic my response "it is what it is." The watchtower is part of my past, and I cannot do anything about that.
But my past does not constrain my future, which I see as pretty great.
I love this post and hope before i die I can say this.

Yes I was angry and bitter all the time for quite a while. Now I have days I am A&B and some days I am filled with sorrow for what they did to my family and I . Neither is a good way to spend your life so I am trying to find a way to deal with it. I'd always wanted to write a book, but I am lacking in most of the skills required for writing . I am not even sure I could tell the story at this point.
Some Xjws judge the reason you are an xjws- with apostasy being of the holiest. So I had issues with jws and I also have issues with xjws. What I noticed was the xjws who left for Jesus were JUST as obnoxious as any JWS EVER was. I also found the Atheist XJWS were equally obnoxious. WTH?
" stuck in the middle with you.."- a member of the Rest of us who are not really religious ( but a believer) and definitely not atheists.
Many forget that some who used to be in the WTS were kicked out for legitimate and valid reasons
but so many more where hurt and abused b/c of horrible double standards.

Fat Girls Guide to Life book
by love2Bworldly inanyone read the "fat girl's guide to life"?
i am reading it right now and finding it pretty interesting.
it makes me think outside the box a little bit about how much money is spent on products for people to lose weight, and how much money saturates the market and influences so much of the media.. the author's attitude is one i try to have-- exercise, be balanced in eating habits, drink water, take nutrition supplements, and don't obsess over dieting & what the scale says or about other people's judgements toward my weight.. right now, i already know why i am overweight-- i am eating to deal with my bipolar issues.

The young lady above looks healthy and beautiful. She looks like maybe a size 12-14 ( by todays clothing sizing measurements ) . That would have been about a 16-18 years ago.

Mormons getting hollowed out: The tipping point has occurred.
by Qcmbr inever since mitt romney turned the spotlight on the lds church a growing tsunami of disaffection has been accelerated and brought to a head.. the lds core faithful members are leaving in increasing numbers such that growth has not simply stagnated in the west but it has actively reversed.
to their credit the church is responding aggressively but not only is it too late, it is an impossible task.
you can only paint sh*t so many ways.

Your Grandma sounds delightful. She will be with you always.
Grandparents occupy a special place . Parents must be strict but grandma/grandpa can be fun. We are hoping our granddaughters will have happy memories to share one day about us.
