Actually the new family book mentions briefly that one should seek out side help if necessary for alcoholism or drug addiction. They do not endorse an outside enterprise as AA does not either. Of course each elder has his own ideas about these things and tries to press it on the cong. Usually it's to NOT seek outside help.
The last shepherding call I had about 6-7 yrs ago I got into an argument with the elder about this. He's a drinker himself; if you get my drift. He's the kind of elder that has to have a bottle of Scotch after a JC. His wife is so numb from all the wine she drinks I'm not sure if she is alive. I feel like saying to "hey are you still in there."
There is so much untreated alcoholism and so many adult children of alcoholic parents that never sought treatment in the congs.I can't stand to be around them. It's such a non-nurturing atmosphere as a result of not seeking treatment. This is where all the judgmental behavior is coming from alcoholism.

by metatron ingot more information recently.. brooklyn bethel is downsizing , bigtime.. first, they are moving a lot of printing out of brooklyn.
and into "regional" branches, perhaps closer to where.
the material is distributed.

The WT has been buying food for a long time. They openly admit it is much cheaper to buy produce. It's also cheaper for me to buy produce then to have my garden when I factor the labor. The US government subsidizes farms and this stabilizes food prices.
Another factor to consider is the WT is spending a great deal of money on videos and they maybe realizing that print is dead.

When is Nissan 14?
by Dawn inok - here is an interesting one for ya'll.
just throwing it out there for your thoughts.. the "lords evening meal" is always celebrated on the day that corresponds to nissan 14. my parents are still jw's and (as ya'll know) the memorial service is the "most important meeting of the year" - they literally cry if i don't go.
so i'm thinking - i'll show my mother and father honor by going - i can fake it through one meeting right?!

Look for it some where in a WT. I don't have time to do it. The WT claims that the Jews in the first century celebrated on nissan 14 and that one small sect of Jews still do celebrate on nissan 14. If you look it's there somewhere.

incase you think i'm some irate jehovah's witness idiot who's been offended by the terrible blasphemy that he's read on here, i'm not.
i was raised a jw, but now i'm not one.. first of all, given the url, i thought this website was in some way affiliated with the jehovah's witness organization, whereas in reality it seems from the posts i've read that most people here are either former jehovah's witnesses or soon-to-be former jehovah's witnesses.

I actually know of an elder who has his disfellowshipped daughter, who is about 20, living at home with him and she has been disfellowshipped for over a year.
His cong must be slow because an elder must be presiding over his own house in a fine .........look they will make him pay for it one way or another. They must beleive she will come back so they are 'trying to help her.' Then it depends on other things do they force their daughter to go to meeting? Does she beleive in JW doctrine? What if she didn't beleive and was vocal about it what do you think they would do then? Think he would still be an elder in that cong? There are all kinds of scenarios........And one experience observed by a UN-baptized, on looking, unbeliever doesn't negate the thousands of experiences that others have had to endure.

What realm do you live in? You don't make sense.
If an elder keeps his DF'd child in his home he will be removed as an elder. Families are shunned in congs for having their Df'd children live with them. This does have to do with the way the WT has developed the JW social structure. They want it just the way it is a power they have over the cong. If they weren't JWs then they wouldn't be DF'd. So, why would they throw their children out for not believing the WT. It has everything to do with the WT. You were treated different because you were never baptized. This is true.What you will find here are many that were raised as JWs have little knowledge about other religions or cultures. They were isolated by the JW doctrine. Many of us who became JWs as adults were cut off from our families for becoming JWs. This is something you raised in the truths didn't realize as children. The orthodox Jews consider ones that are not practicing to be dead as well. So it's not uncommon in ultra orthodox religions to exclude those not practicing. Just because it's common amoung other ultra orthodox religions doesn't mean it doesn't deeply affect individuals. So they may need support from others when they leave.
Everyone here has not been as fortunate as you. Many have families that threw them out in the street at a young age and won't even speak with them. This tends to make a person resentful and angry. The best way to get rid of resentment and anger is to recognize it and give it away. For some that's what they are doing others are just stewing with it here. Everyone has different experiences to live with and process. Just be grateful you haven't had a hard time with your own process.

Does he know your an atheist?Yes, Satan has developed this elaborated scheme of distracting JWs (only 6 mil people) with all forms of media communication. Newspapers, mags, radio, TV, Intranet, and mail are all a part of this satanic scheme to distract JWs because no one else exists. Then no one else's wife has to go to work and no one else has to work 6 days a week only JWs. Of course if they let people go to college maybe they wouldn't have to work so much.

Shelby, have you ever tried Zyprexa? It's helped many 'such like ones' as you self. What if it made the voices go away. That would prove the voices are not from God wouldn't it.

memorial ettiquette for worldy people??????
by concerned mama ini have been away for a few days, so forgive me if this has already been covered.. am i (a non jw) supposed to refer to the memorial in any way talking to a jw?
for example, would i say "happy memorial", or could i ask if they had a nice celebration?
since it is the one and only big day each year is there some way to acknowledge it in a friendly type conversational way?
