I was a 17-18 year old who never had bible questions answered. Witnesses were the first to answer ANY question I had, so it sounded good when you get everything answered even though they are the wrong answers.....especially when you are that age.

What Ever Attracted You To The Witnesses In The First Place?
by minimus ini have an excuse, i was born in it.
the thought of living forever and never dying was certainly a draw but when i realized it wasn't true, there wasn't much of an attraction anymore.. what attracted you as a witness?.

how to keep JWs away
by isaacaustin inmy friend's girlfriend is visited by jws at least once a month.
she is not interested in jws but is friendly and always willing to talk.
they came by last friday and saw her boyfriend's car so the husband also came over (usually the jw lady comes with another 'sister').

I agree with undercover. I was thinking if that didn't work, they could always put up a sign by their door saying they don't want to discuss religion or something. Even though a study was rejected, the witnesses will think that in time they will accept since they are so nice or even secretly study with them without them knowing.

How Many Here Actually "Studied" The Publications?
by minimus inwhen i was a teenager i extensively studied nearly every publication.
i especially enjoyed looking up the root words meanings in the hebrew and greek of the bible language.
it gave me the flavor of a word and its origins.

Just read quick and underlined. Never went to deep into the subject. Once, my husband and I went to study the watchtower with someone and his bible study, and It took like 2 hours! The guy would take like 15 minutes to go over one paragraph. We didn't comment much, and later that week he called my husband and said he was a bad example for his bible study because he didn't say much about the paragraphs. That was the last time we ever did anything with him. .the worst part was the next day was sunday so we had to sit through the watchtower again for an hour. zzzzz.

What do most ex-JWs "believe" after leaving?
by EverAStudent inhas anyone done a survey to determine what faith system, religion, or set of religious beliefs ex-jws tend to settle into after leaving the organization?
if not, would you care to post what you presently consider to be your own personal religion (e.g.
protestant, catholic, baptist, jw but not in the organization, agnostic, atheist, ...) and especially what you presently believe about jesus (was he a real historical human, is he god, is he an angel, ...).. thank you!.

I think I just believe what I did beforeI was a witness. I belive Jesus is Gods son, I do not belive in the trinity, never had before I was a witness, I Think animals that I loved I will see again(opposite to what witnesses believe). I dont think I completely believe in the bible, I think there are parts missing or parts that were put in and not explained very well. I am not part of any religion, Dont think I ever will be again. I think religions teach how they interpret the bible and I don't like beliveing what someone tells me anymore. I dont need to be a part of anyones 'club'.

someone I was good friends before being a jw who also played a part in making me a jw (shes a jw) will not have anything to do with me anymore. She wrote an email basically saying I worship satan because I do not attend meetings. I am not disfellowshipped and she doesn't know the real reason why I do not attend anymore.

Interesting Thought about JW's and People Outside the Org
by Mrs. Witness inon another thread, aude sapeare said:.
jws make this huge assumption that once you leave the 'protection' of the org, you will go off the deep end and become totally irresponsible, drink, smoke, do drugs and have sex with anyone and anything.. that is what i have been fighting with my husband about for 3 years now.
when he was kicked out of his jw's mom's house when he was 15, that is exactly what he did for about 20 years.

I remember a jw friend that said because her sister didn't attend meetings then it means shes doing something that she shouldn't and is embarrassed to go back to meetings. That was drilled into her head since she grew up in the religion.

I couldn't face going
by cantleave ini was suspossed to go to the meeting today, gotta to keep up the pretense in order to facillitate my fade.
instead i had nice lie in, i visited my non-witness dad, and then met up with my first aspostate from this site mr. majestic.. i didn't want to go to the meeting because meetings make me angry, i can now see the techniques used to control the congregation by fear.
i can't stand the thought that so many good people are being fed a banquet of lies and deception.. i could so easily never attend again..

My husband and I did not fade, we stopped cold turkey. No elder meetings, no visits of 'encouragement' nothing! Every congregation is different, and I think it can depend on how often the people are out in your area preaching. The area we live in is seldom worked and they certainly aren't going to drive to see us during non-service time. Its been just about a year now and the elders don't have one idea as to why we dont go. It also helped that we never got close to people at the hall and never got together to do things. So how can they miss us if we were never really part of their club?? One thing is sure, once you stop going you won't ever ever want to go back. On what used to be meeting nights, I enjoy knowing that I'm not there!
