My brief respite
by silent ini have been so worked up and worried for years about the end and armageddon that i have headaches, depression, and all kinds of maladies.
been having troubles with it since 4th grade and nothing seems to help.
just being at the kingdom hall is mentally taxing, just anything jw is mentally taxing.

silent... I think you have some very similar thoughts that a lot of us here on this Forum have/had.
I guess I need to read and concentrate more on topics such as God/Jehovah's love, mercy, kindness, as well as Jesus' qualities
What you focus on expands. Focusing on positive qualities in your Spirituality (Leave a Legacy) is such a great idea! I hope you can do this. Have you ever spoken to Jesus? Do you feel that handing out Watchtower and Awake! magazines is truly the works that God outlined in the Bible? Do you feel this is accomplishing what you wish to regarding your Spirituality? Do you believe the WTS embraces 'true north principles' (supportive, loving, non-judgmental, honest, trustworthy... to name a few)? Have you defined what Legacy you wish to Leave in this world? I use these terms because these are the ones Stephen Covey uses in his book "First Things First". I recommend you read it along with "7 Habits of Highly Effective People". These both have a very positive message.
What about your other needs? People are more than just 'spiritual'. How do you address your Physical (To Live), Emotional (To Love), and Mental (To Learn) needs?
I see the WTS trying to force people to focus only on the Spiritual, to the exclusion of all else. I see them forcing their people to be door-to-door salesmen when this is not part of the peoples' true nature. This is harmful. I decided year's ago I wasn't a door-to-door saleman.
I've already sinned by thinking and by writing this post.
Can you show me the scripture that supports this statement?
true test of morality is how you behave when you no longer fear discipline
One of our local churches had this message on their sign one day: "Integrity is doing what is right when no one else is looking." Sounds to me like you have this down pat!
Keep THINKING! God gave you a brain to do just this... and you have every right to use it.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 06-07-09 WT Study (JOB NAME)
by blondie intoday, god does not speak to his servants directly as he did to job.
spoke directly to job but now through organization.
more logically, jehovah would speak directly; his perfect son, and even imperfect humans nearby, heard gods own voice.

Whenever I read WTS publications regarding the Bible, and as I have seen, again, throughout this article, I am struck with the frequency and types of words used as follows:
very likely, "The Bible does not give us an explicit answer", perhaps, could have, likely, possible, possibility, may be, "we have no evidence"
Unfortunately, using this type of writing is contradictory to 1 Thessalonians 5:21: 'Prove all things; hold fast to that which is good'.
These types of words speak to and represent nothing more than opinion... and prove nothing. Which says that other conclusions may be just as plausible, if not correct. The writing style used is not convincing me anymore than it did over 30 years ago. If you do not know specifically, if it is purely conjecture, if there is no irrefutable proof, then I do not take it as the truth. If you try to force me to believe it is truth, I discount it and throw it out ... file it under 'G' for 'Garbage'. Always have, always will.
Thank you, once again, Blondie, for your tireless efforts! We appreciate all that you do.

A religion with nothing to Celebrate
by eyeslice inhow sad that the witnesses have nothing to celebrate.
the more i think about it since i stopped going to the meetings, the more i feel that spirituality and religion are about opportunities to give thanks and to celebrate life with family and friends.
christenings or name giving ceremonies celebrate the gift of a new life to a family.

As my parents became more and more involved with the JWs, our family celebrations changed. This also coincided with us children growing up and moving away from home. Some celebrations were dropped as they were really designed for little kids (like Halloween and Easter (?)). Christmas became 'Gift Exchange' and was usually held on a day other than December 25th. This actually worked out well as our non-JW family would get to have their celebrations on the actual day (woohoo!).
But my Mum became chronically ill and my parents decided to become baptized. Once this happened, they began withdrawing from us as we were 'worldly'. They stopped coming to my brother's kids birthdays and they stopped celebrating 'Gift Exchange'. We still got together for Thanksgiving but my parents didn't like us celebrating Mother's and Father's Day. That's ok. I still called them on those days to say 'Hi' and chat. They loved it!
I will be calling my father on June 21st this year. If he says anything about I shouldn't be celebrating Father's Day I will tell him, "It's OK for me to call you on Father's Day. I'm not a Witness so I get to tell you that I am glad you're my Dad. And that I love you!" I don't think there is anything 'pagan' about Father's Day. The argument that they don't put people on a pedestal is bogus as that's what weddings do (which they celebrate) as well as the hierarchy within the whole WTS. At every meeting don't they have someone step up on a pedestal to give a talk? Isn't the GB/FDS on a huge pedestal? Sheesh!
Regarding any pagan celebrations, I think this is a non-starter for the JWs. Until they get rid of their main pagan symbol 'The Watchtower', they really have no leg to stand on regarding ignoring paganism.

Modern-day apostates display characteristics similar to those of the Devil.
Does this include spreading false gospel? (1914 - This Generation Won't Pass Away, The Gates of Heaven Closed in 1935, Armageddon is coming in: 1874, 1878, 1914, 1918, 1925, 1938, 1940, 1975, 'imminently')
This is a classic cult mind control tactic.
Grace and sweet pea, I am so sorry! I figure, one day, my father will have nothing to do with me as well, even though I never was a JW, if this stuff keeps coming out! They sure are trying to split up families and keep them apart at an ever increasing and alarming rate. I guess my father will never see his grandchildren before he passes away. What a shame!

Let's Welcome AK Rekrul to the forum!
by AK - Jeff inyou can review her few comments quickly, as she has made few of them to date.. she is a real fan of mine, borrowing my screen-name partially, and posting exclusively on my threads.
her watchtoweresque style is refreshing is it not?
she seems to believe that i am a total hypocrite - though nailing down her particular point of argument has been challenging.

Here's hoping the forum gives her the freedom she seeks in this life!
Welcome, AK Rekrul! If the above quote is true, you seek 'freedom', can you define this for us? What does 'freedom' mean to you?

by oompa inof course anyone not a jw is "worldly""...i think that mentally this is the hardest part to overcome if you are born in..... you should have seen the look on my wife's face recently when i told her that i feel that things are prob about as good as it gets.....no evil wicked system of things exists........ ya..... i know times are tough here in usa as far as employment.....but damm....this ain't like the great depression or wwi or ww2!!

I keep telling my wife the same thing but she is blinded by the JW's brainwashing..
Quirky1 ... yes, I've seen this in my family as well. When all you read and listen to is WTS mis-information, you're not going to have a proper perspective. With your wife, perhaps you could show her some of the torture devices they used during the Spanish Inquistion in the 1400s:
http://www.torturamuseum.com/instruments.html
They're disgusting! I'm so glad I wasn't born back then, because I'm SURE I'd have been deemed 'a heretic'. I'll take 'wordly' thank you very much!
darth frosty... right on! What you focus on expands. I saw this with my Mum especially once I left home and started working. Every time we'd visit it was 'everything is bad'. I told her there is much good too so try to focus on that instead of the bad. The WTS is focusing on the wrong stuff.
DeanO... you sound just like my Mum used to sound. She's dead now. She never saw Armageddon either. If you think things are so bad, what are your suggestions and plans on fixing them? Handing out magazines? I know more non-JWs actually DOING something to fix things than any JW I've ever known. I think helping to feed people, helping people obtain employment, helping people who are down on their luck is exponetially more helpful than handing someone a magazine and telling them that God will fix it all 'soon', 'very shortly', 'imminently'. God helps those who help themselves. Focusing on all the bad is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Good luck with it.
