  i'm wondering if the borg actually studied mind control and coercion tactics deliberately or wether they just evolved over time through trial and error.

  from reading steve hassans books, studying hypnosis and methods psychopaths use it all seems very complex.

  like it would never occur to me to do a, b and c in the right order at the right time in order to get control of someone or control their lives.. for example, repetition of words (the word "loyalty" was a big one in the last convention), using loaded language, encouraging people not to trust their own thoughts, restricting their information, demonising those who leave etc.

  Where was Jesus (or YHWH) when little children needed them?

  it is claimed by christians that jesus cares deeply for children, for the gospel says:.

  15now people were even bringing their babies to jesus for him to place his hands on them.

  and when the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.

  smiddy, excellent post.

  I have observed throughout my whole life, the Christian method of shifting the goal posts and avoiding the unpleasant scriptures to prop up their "Jesus be da man" stance. We have seen this with the Christians who frequent this site, not to mention the ones we have in our personal lives.

  I don't buy into it when Jesus stated himself that one of his goals was to break up families at Matthew 10:35. I just stop there and walk away. I can't buy into the whole God and Jesus are love thing anymore. Particularly when I have experienced my own family breaking apart due to our parents unwavering belief that mythology is truth and that invisible, silent, male gendered sky fairies are more important than one's own flesh and blood.

  Condescension is a mainstay of this religion. In one of the videos in the last couple of years, Tony Morris the Turd spoke condescendingly about his wife. In another talk, Sam Herd spoke condescendingly about women.They speak this way about anyone who isn't an uber dub.
  

  Since they believe they are God's Chosen and Spokespeople, they have elevated themselves about everyone else. I have found that self-righteous, holier-than-thou, mean-spirited attitudes follow when people do this.

  is remaining ignorant about the society a choice?.

  surely every witness has a moment in time when "something just doesn't seem right"?

  perhaps a teaching, doctrine, an article, a talk, a news report about child abuse handling, or a jwdubdotorg broadcast, a video, a cartoon for the kids....you know....?.

  Any JW who has been in the Borg for years knows something isn't right. Botchtower's claims do not stand up to reality. Whether a person is fully able to identify it is another thing. One must seek information and knowledge particularly when situations arise that one is uneducated about. NOT doing so is a choice and is willful ignorance. The Borg encourages this.
  

  A few years ago my aunt said to me "I didn't expect to get old". This speaks volumes.

  Question about an elder and if I am crazy

  ok so i have a question.

  i was a very, very true believer until i saw the child molesters in my hall and how that whole thing was handled.. my husband is older than i am and had been an elder for 12 when we married.

  so fast forward to 06, we are in a hall where i thought all the elders were ok at the worst and great at the best.

  LITS, I have to agree with what everyone has said. You are not crazy, and you have every right to be upset. Also, this statement ... just WOW! Are they actually letting this guy be around kids? If so, I would go to the police. This child molester has just been given free rein.

  What is the purpose of life?

  while reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.

  because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".

  i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

  Rebel, this is a very astute statement. I think as we grow up and age, our purpose in life changes. I would say the majority of us can define and architect our life's purpose (assuming we have certain needs met first) but there are also circumstances that thrust themselves upon us, which we cannot deny or ignore, that are not choices but obligations or responsibilities. These also become part of our purpose in life.

  Slim, you asked about personal references or experiences. I suspect many don't want to share that here on the forum for fear of revealing who they are. But I will give you a glimpse into my life.

  Did I want to be my Father's Power of Attorney and his primary care giver during this last chronic and progressive disease stage of his life? No. But I have an obligation, a responsibility here and my personal integrity does not allow me to relinquish this to any one else. He chose me because I am supportive and understanding. He is vulnerable now and I am the guardian, the gatekeeper. I also love my Father despite all the bull shit the JW religion heaped on our family.

  So I have had to put a lot of my own life on hold while this all plays out. And I have had to do things that many would not. This is the survival mode/piece of the purpose of life - ensuring that life can continue as long as possible, that the needs of someone incapable of providing them for themselves any longer, are still met.

  To have faith, one must turn a blind eye to Theodicy and accept that creating and allowing evil to remain is loving. I call this psychotic. There is no normal human father who would stand idly by while his child is starving or ill or being harmed by someone else. Reason and Logic must be abandoned to have faith.
