  Bizarre 'Spirit anointed' v. 'Spirit appointed' explanation in Dec 15th WT

  hi everyone, i am going through the dec 15th study edition of the wt thanks to a tip-off that this issue is now available online at jw.org.. in the article "guided by god's spirit in the first century and today" on page 25 there is a bizarre argument put forward by the society about the difference between spirit-anointed and spirit-appointed.. this touches on a subject that i have often wondered about, which is this.

  why are spirit anointed brothers and sisters (memorial partakers) not given positions of oversight in the congregation by default?

  i know it sounds like a stupid question, but please think about it for a moment.

  Shredding the Organised to Accomplish Our Ministry book

  just read through the 2011 letters to usa boe and the 8 february one on disposing of old wt books/magazine struck me as apparently the co needs to authorise their disposal.

  what really intrigued me was that the om book was required to have it's cover removed and the pages "shredded".. was everyone in the congegation asked to shred their personal copies too?.

  I vaguely remember an announcement that if we wanted to 'dispose of old editions' we could bring the books to the KH where they would be taken back to Bethel for recycling.

  I imagine the instruction to shred pages of Elder's copies is because the OM book was used in Elder school quite a bit & some brothers may have made some injudiciously honest notes in the margins?

  recently stopped studying, and stopped in the street to talk to a jw i met during my time studying.

  we were sorta friends (well, in the small way jw's and worldlies can be) and here's how it went:.

  But but but I thought the organisation produced the most highly theocratically educated people on earth? How can they recieve perfect Godly education AND be ignorant at the same time?

  on p. 26-27 they talk about how the lunar positions on vat 4956 fit 588/7 bce!!!.

  "clearly, much of the astronomical data in vat 4956 fits the year 588 b.c.e.

  Can anyone really doubt that if Russells Bible numerology had lead him to say 1920 instead, JWs would be arguing Jeruslem was destroyed in 601bce?

  They used to argue it was 606bce because they forgot there was no year zero...

  School for Congregation Elders

  i attended the school late last year, and it was an emotional and mental rollercoaster for me.

  i was already divided in my heart to say the least.

  one of the instructors stayed in my home for the week, and my family genuinely enjoyed his company.

  if you don't mind i'll share another gem from my review of the latest watchtower study editions (july to october '11).. one article which seemed riddled with flawed reasoning and bizarre analogies was entitled "the internet - making wise use of a global tool" on page 3 of the august 15th watchtower.. under the heading "information - reliable or false?

  "never assume that all information found on the internet is good and beneficial.

  internet search engines might be compared to a legion of mushroom pickers who tirelessly collect all types of mushrooms - edible as well as poisonous - throwing them into a single container and dishing them out for us to eat.".

  Google is like a mushroom picker? As an illustration it doesn't immediately spring to mind - wonder why they ignored the more obvious analogy.
