  you are a city manager in a major metropolitan city with a population of 3,000,000.. .

  if the governing body was truly convinced themselves of the impending disaster and the fact that the end is imminent would they not focus their efforts in spreading the message through effective means such as telephone, television, internet, social networks etc?

  They did an item in my hall a while ago about the importance of informal witnessing. Everyone had to put their hands up to show how they came in the troof. About 40% were born in, 40% came in through 'informal contact' & only 20% through door2door.

  Formal preaching is IMO now just busywork for witnesses. It serves the purposes of; constant reinforcement of your belief system through trying to foist it on others, self satisfaction in varying amounts as to how many hours you put in & a method to make yourself visable to elders for promotion/reaching out purposes. It also allows single by circumstances or choice people to catch up on gossip in a self righteous manner & it's the only method by which single women can gain any status within the organisation. - They even make sisters wear headcoverings when sign-language translating these days.

  in an effort to increase the praise and honor to jehovah and jesus christ at the time of the memorial, the governing body has arranged for a special period of increased activity during april 2011.

  you will be pleased to learn that during april 2011, publishers who wish to serve as auxiliary pioneers may indicate on the application whether they will be working toward a 30-hour or 50-hour requirement for the month.

  this is a special arrangement for the month of april 2011 only.

  Regular pio hours used to be 1200 per year. Then 1000. Now 840.

  Vacation or auxilary pio hours used to be 75 per month. Then 60. Then 50. Now 50 or 30.

  Truely more effort is exerted/exhorted/extorted as the end draws nearer...

  December 15th WT gives example of sister who quit her job so she could go to an convention.

  i was beyond mad when i heard this.

  it is on page 30 of the wt.. it says "a pioneer named roxana is one who has seen how jehovah provides for his people.

  when she asked her employer for permission to take some days off to attend one of our conventions, he angrily retorted that if she went, he would fire her.

  Parents are coming to town (straight from a 3 day stay in bethel) Do you have any questions for them?

  ok my parents are coming from mexico.

  my dad is a big name elder over there, being an elder for 40 years and worked in bethel, co, city overseer, and convention overseer for more than 20 years.. you name it.

  and they also did the special pioneer thing (thats when i was born) ... anyway my mom's cousin (who is the head of a service table in bethel) invited them for a 3 day stay in the headquarters.. so they are coming to visit (since my grandpa is very ill)... .

  Don't anti-witness. Just be supportive. They will try to encouage you back into the faith, but don't talk about yourself. Always turn the conversation around and ask about how they're doing. Ask about the brothers in mexico.

  Your parents are of the generation that believed 1975. They were the generation that would not get old in this system. ALL of them have the question "why has this system lasted so long" and the statement "it wasn't meant to be this way" in the back of their mind.

  Focus them. Talk to them about care arrangments for your grandpa. Ask them about what care arrangements they would like FOR THEMSELVES in a few years.

  As Ned Flanders would say they're in a dilly of a pickle.

  I suppose they could riff on a theme of "many are called but few chosen", in which case they could say it would be unfair to have sealed the 144k before the overlapping last days Christians were even born, but they've scuppered themselves with the individual anointed aren't special idea.

  Actually what they'll probably do is bring in the 'simplified statistics arrangement', and just report the numbers they want - peak pubs and memorial attendance.

  We don't have the original Bible, so that's an unproveable assertion.

  a "bloody" question - components vs. fractions

  the official wt rule on blood is, whole blood and the four primary components are forbidden, fractions from those are conscience matter.. now its clear, that the medical world only uses the term fractions.. its also clear, that there is no direct bibilical reason for dividing blood into permitted components and forbidden fractions.. .

  however, there is one argument of apologists, that has at least some value, if the premisse is true:.

  the problem with components is, that when they are extracted, they still contain small amounts of all other components, so they still resemble whole blood, only the percentage is different.. an example to illustrate (simplified):.

  The simple answer is the society's position on blood is not coherent and is not logical.

  It is impossible to 'make a defence to anyone who asks' about this policy.

  But if you're an organisation that has taught 5 different meanings of the word 'generation' I guess logical coherency is not high on your doctrinal checklist.

  I accepted it as inerrant because I am a born-in and it was inculcated into me. The first thing I remember reading at age 3 is a Bible verse. Now I view it as interesting commentry on life 2000 - 3500 years ago.

  Revelation I just dont get - which annoys me. I dont understand what the author's point was. Is it just a polemic against Rome, or an old man's hallucination? Or an early version of sci-fi?

  does anyone know of any good examples of evidence that humans were around well before the jw claim, that doesn't rely on anything they so casually dismiss, like radiometric dating?.

  from a discussion i had with an active sister this past week.

  they had no "issues" with accepting the new generation understanding at all, she said.

  all the brothers agreed with the reasoning, apparently there were no protests, murmerings or complaints.

  Ding - one option they have is to use 120 years of Noah warning his generation as a type and starting hyping 2034 as 120 years after 1914.

  I think that idea is in the back of many JWs minds, well the ever shrinking proportion who actually care about "that prophecy stuff". However it doesnt really work since 120 years to a man who lives 600 years is proportionate to about 15 years for a man who lives 75 years.

  They absolutely need to phase out 1914. It was 96 years ago. It didn't even occur in my grandparents living memory! It doesn't mean anything anymore.

  Actually, the real flood parallel, if the society had its way, would be God telling Noah to build an ark and preach about a flood that would happen several generations after Noah died.
